And yet you did not vote Negative?

I admit to being unfamiliar with AU prices on this model.

Would you please let me know of other (better) prices for an overseas model, and for the AU model. I am guessing that this may be superseded now by the S4 ?

      • +4

You only give a neg vote when it's a bad deal. In this case the price is fairly average and probably not worth a neg vote.

        • Exactly.

It is a little unclear just who is selling this, at first.

First, in large print and in the main body of the item page, it states->

"Kogan is not affiliated with Samsung in any way. This Product is a brand new international model imported directly from internationally based distributors. This Product may differ in some respects from other similar products available from local retailers in various countries around the World (including Australia)."

This would suggest to many that Kogan Australia have already imported these phones from Europe, Hong Kong, or wherever.

However, then, at the bottom of the same page, but in small print, it states->

"This Product is offered and supplied by Kogan HK Limited pursuant to the Terms and Conditions."

So, in this case, this phone is actually being sold by Kogan HK Limited, and being sent directly from Hong Kong. The buyer is the importer, and there is no chance of any assistance via ACCC or Fair Trading if anything goes wrong, or if there are problems with warranty repair/replacement etc. (if the phone gets lost going back and forth, or whatever).

The total price is $412 delivered. Just keep this in mind if you are thinking of buying. If you want to save on an S3, and don't mind an overseas phone, it might be better to buy from an Australian store that has already imported the phone.

    • What exactly are you basing that on?

It's "imported by the buyer", most likely for tax purposes, and last time I checked our consumer protection act applies regardless of where the seller is located. The act also has a nice provision making Kogan HK and Kogan AU one and the same.

The seller is located outside of Australia - in Hong Kong. How can the "consumer protection act" do anything about a seller in Hong Kong?

I agree with you - that the sale was initiated in Australia on an Australian website (for Kogan and other sellers working from .com.au sites). The ATO agrees with us. Unfortunately no one is enforcing this, and ACCC/FT won't act against supposed HK suppliers (who are really just extensions of the Australian businesses).

          On their own warranty page.

          For the avoidance of doubt:

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. The warranties and product support that we offer and provide pursuant to our Terms and Conditions are in addition to the consumer warranties and guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law.

        • On their own warranty page

I believe that you are referring to Kogan's Warranty Page.

You are confusing Kogan Australia with Kogan HK Limited. It is made clear on each product page whether one is buying from Kogan or Kogan HK Limited.

        • it doesn't matter. you get warranty, full stop

        • the sale was initiated in Australia on an Australian website (for Kogan and other sellers working from .com.au sites). The ATO agrees with us.

If you look more carefully, after going to www.kogan.com.au you are redirected to www.kogan.com/au - so is it actually still considered an Australian website?

          Just putting it out there.

  • Hmm, if mods want to delete… - I may have just jumped to the conclusion that this was a good deal, although I don't think that anything Kogan will be going off with all the pricing errors :P

    • Hmm, if mods want to delete… - I may have just jumped to the conclusion that this was a good deal

It may be an OK deal.

Did you do any checking on the price from other sellers? Either here in AU (both for grey imports and local AU model) or in HK like Kogan HK.

      EDIT:

Looks like a good enough deal.

eBay search on same model ->

      http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_odkw=Samsung+Galaxy+S3+I9…

    • all it would take is one sweet bargain and all will be forgotten

  • My Galaxy S3 4G from two weeks ago was $463 after price matching at Officeworks, and claiming back GST when taking it out of the country brought it down to just $420.

Kogan was selling the S3 4G for $379 shipped back when the S4 was first released, but they're notorious for horrible after-service support and selling open box phones.

    • i bought my s3 4g from kogan at $379 shipped, all good. no problems.

      • Mine developed a line of dead pixels across the screen. kogan took a month for me to get a replacement and that replacement was open box with a used feel to it.

Hmmm everyone I know Including me that has had an s3 has cracked there screen a good 5-7 people at work… every single one…. I had no issue with my s2… the s3 was crap! Too many to be a coincidence….

    • just cracked my screen last night in the dark with the blackout… :(
how are you dealing with yours?
      - putting up with it
      - ebay repair?
      - "professional" 150-200 buck repair?
      - buy a new phone??

      • if i get around to it (IE im just putting up with it at the moment) I'll ebay repair, i just did my wifes razr V but the biggest problem is they get a little dust in them (behind the screen) and its too dificult to get out…
but really cant justify the 200 to get it repaired professionally…

Here is my experience buying this for anyone interested:

I bought this same model (except in White) from Kogan 2 weeks ago. I ordered it on a Tuesday, it arrived the following Monday. The box was sealed and definitely had not been opened (I had to cut the Samsung warranty seal). In the box everything came as expected and all documentation was in English. The wall adapter was a European plug type, however Kogan shipped a separate box with an Australian power adapter inside (this model: http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/usb-rapid-charger/). When I turned the phone on, the only 'different' thing about it was that a 'Vodacom' (I assume European Vodafone) carrier logo appeared quickly before the Samsung logo while booting. The wallpaper was also set to an image with the Vodacom logo. Other than that, I see no differences from the store-bought Australian GS3 which I have at work. The phone is great and running fine at the moment.

Overall I am very happy with this purchase from Kogan. I got stung by the S4 deal a few weeks ago, but gave them another chance after seeing them drop the S3's to below $400. Based purely on my own experience I would definitely recommend this deal to anyone looking for a new phone in that price range.

    • Overall I am very happy with this purchase from Kogan.

Good for you. You do not mention the price you paid, but I assume it was a good deal. Hopefully, you do not have any problem(s) that require claiming on warranty.

    • Nvr mind

    • same as my experience.. kogan is not as good as when you buy with brick and mortar but still provide me with full support or should i say slower support..

  • 1GB of RAM is really outdated these days - especially having to put up with the Samsung bloatware.

Good price though - especially for a 32GB internal storage. The 4G LTE version would have been better though (and 2GB RAM)

My S3 was away on warranty repair (2 years for Australian stock) and I was lumbered with a Nexus 4 (another Ozbargain influenced purchase). Let me say the native Android experience isn't all it is cracked up to be. Little things like seeing at a glance how many messages are unread, not knowing what to do when your screen blacks out during a call (how to bring it back if you need the keypad for example), usually an extra couple of steps to activate/deactivate items that are available on the samsung taskbar, it goes on. There are many other examples where I am grateful for the bloatware nowadays which I am surprised to admit.

      • +1

But having a native android device is a mixed blessing. For one there is less stuff to break/crash, less memory cconsumption and better battery life.

But the downside is you won't have many of the cool patented features other phones have (e.g Samsung multi window view or enhanced camera features)

Not that we're buying from Kogan, but, wouldn't the S3 4G at $379 be a better buy?
    http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/samsung-galaxy-s3-4g-i9305-white…

For $10 less you're getting 4G and 2GB ram (as opposed to 1GB). Though, this is only the 16GB model, you can overcome that issue with Micro SD memory.

Or is the 4G variant no good?
