$200 Trade-in Bonus Coupon for Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (e.g. 256GB $1937, 512GB $2137) @ JB Hi-Fi

110

This deal stacks with $1700 off S25 Ultra on $99 per month for 24 months plan.

Essentially if you jump through all the hoops you ultimately can get S25 Ultra 256gb for $237 + $799.92 (cancellation fee) = $1036.92

There are variations where Samsung charge the first month's $99 then you'll get a reduced cancellation fee of $766.59.

JB Assurant Trade In

I had a play around and the amount they give is better than Samsung's trade in values. For example S23 Ultra 512gb is $610 vs Samsung $595

In the past when JB trade in was under squaretradeup, you can apply for trade in, get the bonus voucher email, and cancel the trade in with no cost to you. Not sure if it is still possible with JB Assurant Trade In.

can anyone confirm the early cancellation fee is stil 799?

    • -2

Already talked about it many many times in previous thread.

Wondering when Telstra may stop it.

  • Ive been told by an inhouse jbhifi rep that if you cancel the contract it could affect your credit score/history
Does anyone know anything about this ?

    • +1

When was the last time you looked at your credit report?

mine is a shit show … it still shows credit cards active from 6 years ago (was closed 5 years ago) reported 2 years ago… x2 / not showing current credit card (~8 month)
still showing home loan - was moved ~4 years ago

    • +2

Only affects your credit if you don't pay the final bill in due time.

      • +3

Not true. All credit enquiries will contribute to the score.

        • I heard this as well from a mate who is a credit officer at 1 of the big banks.

      • +3

" if you cancel the contract it could affect your credit score/history"

Cancelling your contract does not affect your credit score.

    • +2

As long as you're not doing this every couple of months or so, you'll be fine. It counts as an additional credit enquiry, and if you pay the final amount off in good time, it doesn't have an overtly negative impact

  • +1

I was at jbhifi yesterday and the assistant said the trade in bonus can't be used for the plan promotion.

    • +3

It is treated as 2 seperate transactions - you sign up for the sim card, and then buy the phone with $1700 gift card. The system will allow trade in coupon to be used, similiarly to the $200 pre-registration coupon.

      • +5

JB stores make up rules on the fly.

      • +1

Wont do it at my local jb. They say the gift card offer is 1100. The 1700 is a substitute for yhat 1100 and wont stack it.

        Im pussed.

    • +1

That's incorrect, clearly they didn't know what they are talking about. You can claim plan promotion, trade in and trade in bonus all in one hit to bring the price of the phone down to a very low amount.

      • It doesn't matter whether they know, or do not know. More so on what they "enforce".

One store, two different people can yield two different outcome.

  • So still worse than the pre-order coupon which got you $200 off and double storage

    • Yeah you get $200 here from trade in, but no double storage.

    • +1

yes, which is no longer available … moving on

  • +5

Ask JBHIFI to price match Digidirect price of $2103 for 512GB. If lucky to price match, then out of pocket in store would be $203 (minus your trade in device value). Rest you guys all know what to do later.

    $2103 - $1700 - $200 (trade in bonus) = $203

    https://www.digidirect.com.au/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultra-512gb…

    • Anyone actually lucky enough to do this?

  • -3

I ended up porting to Vodafone for the S25 Ultra. 24 month handset repayment plan, and after SIM Plan discounts and applying trade credit for my Pixel 7 256GB (itself an old OzB special) my monthly bill should be $95.

  • +1

If the value after using $1700 voucher $237, how will they adjust old device trade in value?

    • +1

When you do the trade in, you will get the value of your trade in device as a general JB gift card. It is not tied to your order.

If the trade in device is worth more than the $237, you simply have left over on the gift card for a future purchase.

  • Got my S25 last week from the other deal but now want to trade in my P8P for the Samsung ultra watch. Guessing the extra $200 voucher won't count?

    • The $200 voucher will only work on S25 Ultra.

  • conditions say the coupon cant be used on items purchased a together with a JB Hifi device plus plan.

  • its an age thing. Id read that as a plan with a device

    • JB Hi-Fi Device+ plans can only be purchased using a Zip Money account on a 24 month Zip Money interest free instalment plan.

      Not the same thing

      • thanks i got a coupon tonight so ill go try it out tomorrow.

        • Well didnt work. They wont stack the coupon. They say it cant be used with another promo deal.

          • @driva: How does the process work?

You go through the process online and put in the payment details - they send you giftcard etc and you have to send in the phone within 7 days?

            • +1

@bluebluebird: Fill in online process and you will receive an email with the instructions for shipping label. You are meant to get a 2nd email for the coupon which i never got. If you click on the print label link in the email it will allow you to download the coupon from a link on the left side of the page.

My local store refuse to let me use in on the 99 plan 1700 off however the store 280kms away will. Thinking about a sunday drive.

Now i want to cancel the trade they will charge me the trade in value of the phone. so im stuffed
              .

              • @driva: are you saying you never received a 2nd email for the $200 trade-in bonus coupon?

              • @driva: If you cancel the trade in they will simply take the phone value from gift card back

                • @CodeXD: i never received a gift card for the $20 trade in value, just the 200 coupon. They put a $20 hold on my debit card and when i click cancel because JB wont take the coupon they say they will charge me the $20.

              • @driva: Thanks. So the coupon would have the trade in value + the $200 bonus, to bring for the sign up for the $99 plan $1700 off.

                • @bluebluebird: Be aware that some stores wont stack the offer. They will only take the $200 if you purchase the phone outright.
                  conditions
                  Terms & Conditions:
The Coupon is redeemable in store or online in a single transaction (excluding airport stores) and cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion or offer. • +1

@bluebluebird: Hi @bluebluebird, my understanding is you will get two separate things from doing a trade-in:
                  1. First email: JB eGiftcard to the value of your old device trade-in value (in driva's case, it's $20, which driva mentioned s/he never received)
                  2. Second email: JB Hi-Fi coupon for a discount on the purchase of a specific product (in this case, $200 coupon for a purchase of S25U).

  • +1

    Hi everyone,

With the trade-in, say our old device is valued at $20, if we don't send in the old device, reading the T&Cs, we will only be charged the old device valuation (in this example $20), no admin fee like Samsung Trade-In charges $60. Can anyone be kind enough to confirm if this is their experience? TIA.

    • I did yesterday and cancelled. Was charged only the value of trade in ($15). I didn't use the GC so I wonder if they can cancel it and refund the money. But if not, I will use it later om on something else.

      • Thanks for sharing

      • Hi @hf1842, by the unused GC are you able to clarify that you are referring to the $200 trade-in coupon? My understanding is it can only be used for S25U purchase.

Or are you referring to the $15 GC from the value of your trade-in?

        • There seems to be three coupons available. 200 of S25 Ultra. 150 of S25 and S25+ 600 off google 9 pro fold

        • I meant $15 GC. They didn't allow me to use $200 coupon together with $1700 off offer. He showed me on his screen the clause that explicitly says no coupon can be used with the Telstra offer. But he kindly found a cheaper phone sonewhere else and price mached it so I got the phone for $200 less. So there are still some good sales people out there!

  • Does anyone know if you make the payment at the main counter or at the mobile phone desk. I'm thinking i might be able to present the coupon to the checkout person who isn't as savvy as the phone reps.

  • +1

Was able to stack both the $99 plan to get the $1700 credit, and use trade-in credit with the $200 coupon. Then cancelled the plan and copped the 767 fee.

    • Thanks for sharing @senpaii
@driva as has been mentioned before, it would be worth trying another store if it's convenient for you

      • +1

They were able to stack, so no need to try another store haha

        • +1

          Thanks @CodeXD

Can I please confirm the following are all stackable:
          - Ticket price for S25U 256GB: $2,137
          - Switch mobile number in-store to $99 plan: minus $,1700
          - JB Hi-Fi eGiftCard to the value of old device trade-in: minus $20 (for me)
          - JB Hi-Fi coupon from the trade-in above: minus $200

So in total when in-store, I will be paying: $217.

Of course, after all that, adding $800 cancellation fee (assuming first month $99 is refundable from Telstra) and also adding $20 that Assurant charges because I don't send the device to them, total out of pocket: $217 + $800 + $20 = $1,037.

          Thanks again!

          • @93ahfe: Already confirmed stackable here.

The $20 is just JB gift card so you'll be able to use it for anything gift card is accepted.

          • @93ahfe: Yup thats correct

          • @93ahfe: Possible to stack a JB Hifi eGC bought at 4.5% discount on the @217.00? Saving another $9.76?

            • @Traveller36: Thanks, yes, thought of that, I've bought $217 GC at 5% discount, so $10.85 more saving :)

Appreciate you reminding me though, cheers for that.

The challenge is now whether the store I'll visit today will allow me to use the $200 trade-in coupon or not, after what driva and hf1842 were declined

    • Which jb hifi?

      • prefer not to say but somewhere in Melbourne

  • +1

After failing to use the coupon yesterday i checked out the store today and some one different was working. They were ok with using the coupon. Plus the coupon is actually applied at the main payment counter and the person who signs you up isn't present at time of payment. So they give you the gift card to the value of 1700. So the cashier scans the phone, you give them the coupon code, the gift card and you pay the 237 dollars approx. They didnt charge me the for the first month so i paid 237 plus 799.10 cancellation.

    • Thanks, this is great news you got someone who is happy to scan it and let the system say whether it is stackable instead of blocking you and telling you it doesn't work.

It is what I tried to point out but poorly in my previous comment haha

      • +1

        got there in the end.

  • -1

Coupon is not stackable. Literally in T&Cs it says it cant be done as well on the coupon. Had a store guy who took my through the T&Cs and said sorry can't be done.

    • +1

It's stackable… The way it works is you sign up to the plan to get a $1700 gift card that goes towards the phone. The phone is a seperate transaction itself to which you then apply the gift card and then the coupon and, and then you pay the remaining balance with cash or any other gift cards you have.

      • Ok thanks.. ill try again next time I'm in a store. Ill ask at the checkout for them to apply it.

        • +1

          Hi @svanaut,

In case it helps, please see my experience in my post below. Cheers.

  • Btw i dont know the most efficient way to do this but if you select samsung galaxy 10 and say it has physical damage its only a $12 trade in. Dont send it in and they bill you $12. $188 profit towards the phone.

    • +2

Nope, still $200 profit. You get a $12 eGC and a $200 eGC. You don't send your phone in, they deduct the $12 so you're still $200 up.

      • Sweet!

    Sharing with everyone my experience:
Thanks to clarification from @CodeXD and @senpaii the $1700 is indeed actually in the form of JB Gift Card (it wasn't clear to me as on JB website it just states $1700 off), so the following is the breakdown of the transaction that I was able to complete today (I am in WA, not VIC):

    Sticker price of S25U 256 GB: $2,137

    Paid with:
JB (physical) Gift Card from this promotion that they issued in store: ($1,700)
    Trade-in coupon: ($200)
JB eGift Card from trading in of old device: ($20) (that's my old device, this varies depending on your old device that you are trading in)
JB eGift Card that I purchased from an external source at 5% off: ($217)

So technically, the transaction is just using one promotion, which is the $200 trade-in coupon, the rest is paid using Gift Card (physical and eGift Card).

As @driva did, I did not mention anything about the $200 trade-in coupon when signing up to the Telstra $99 mobile plan (which was at the mobile phone area), I only brought it up during payment, which by this time you should be at the check-out counter with a different person doing his/her cashier job.
One thing to note is you do need to get the cashier to process the $200 trade-in coupon first, then you can have them process the remaining balance using whatever payment method you want to use (in my case, 2 separate JB eGift Cards).

    Thanks everyone for their help.

    • @efha39 When and who did you give the $1700 gift card? To the cashier before the $200 trade-in coupon? So sequence at the cashier will be as follow?

      1. $1700 GC
      2. $200 eGC
      3. $20 eGC
      4. $217 eGC

A few more questions if you don't mind please.

      • Have you cancelled your Telstra plan? How much did you have to pay out?
      • Sorry but re signing up with Telstra, we should just cancel before porting across right, meaning there's no change / disruption to current mobile network?
      • Do you intend to send you old phone back as part of the trade in? No one has mentioned this before but if you do not send the phone back, they will only charge you $20 and not $220 (incl. $200 bonus), is that correct?
      • +2

        Hi @Traveller36

No worries, happy to answer as many questions that I can, glad to be able to give back to the OzB community.

The $1700 GC was never handed to me, it was issued by the person who signed me up to the $99 Telstra plan and was handed immediately to the cashier when they walked with you to the cashier area (after which the person left the cashier area). The cashier was able to process the $1700 off the $2,137 ticket price and the cashier advised me the balance I needed to pay was $437. It was at this point you need to inform the cashier about the $200 trade-in coupon first (remember it's a coupon, not a GC), so for me it was:
        1. $200 trade-in coupon
        2. eGC of $20 (the trade in value)
        3. eGC of $217

I have just cancelled my Telstra plan via chat. I wanted to cancel it straight away after I left JB as there was a Telstra store in the same shopping centre, but by that time the Telstra store was already closed. I have to pay out the pro-rated amount of $766.59. It could be because technically by the time I did a chat with Telstra, it was already 18 Feb in Eastern time (although it's still 17 Feb in WA). I will try asking for a refund of $99 tomorrow as has been mentioned in this and other threads.

I don't think you can cancel before porting, it is taking place as I was signing up for the plan while still in store. As you may already know, if all data match up on both losing and gaining carriers, porting should only take 5 minutes during business hours and days and it did for me.

I don't think to send my phone back. My understanding is they will only charge $20. I have two facts supporting this:
        1. https://jbhifi-tradein.assurant.com.au/terms-and-conditions
WHAT IF I DON’T COMPLY WITH THESE TERMS, clause 7.1.c.
"Cancel your Trade-In Transaction, return your Device to you (if we have received it) and direct our payment services provider to pay us an amount equal to the Trade-In Value, pursuant to your Payment Security Approval."
        2. In an email reminder they send to return the device, it states the following:
"If our Returns Centre does not receive your trade-in item(s) by the 8/3/2025 your credit/debit card will be charged an amount equal to the trade-in credit offered when you placed your order."

So it is fair to deduce they will only charge you the trade-in value, which follows that if you don't intend to send them your old device, use a low-value device when doing a trade in.

        • Thanks @efha39 Follow up question please. Did you get a new SIM (phone number) just for this? Else, you would lose your phone number if you just cancel at Telstra after porting in?

          • @Traveller36: Hi @Traveller36

Yes, I bought a pre-paid Vodafone SIM card which was on sale for $6 at Coles (was planning to buy $5 Aldi SIM, but over the weekend Aldi told me all Aldi stores were having problem scanning SIM card at their checkouts, so they were not selling any SIM card, oh well, $1 loss on my part :))

I was thinking of getting a $2 SIM card (you know, from Optus, Lebara, Vodafone, widely available in supermarkets), but they don't come with any credit, and usually when we port our number to another provider, there are cases where we need to reply to an SMS sent (containing a OTP) to our number from the gaining carrier, which implies we require credit to at least send one SMS for the reply. But in turns out in this case, Telstra sent an SMS with OTP to this number and I only needed to provide the OTP to the person in JB Hi-Fi, there was no need to reply to the SMS. (so, another $4 loss on my part, ha ha… :))

As you already pointed out, the only purpose is to get a new number to port in to JB Hi-Fi Mobile Upfront Plan, because this is one of the requirements to get the $1,700 off, if we port in our main number, we'll lose it when we cancel our plan with Telstra after porting in.

Quoted from one of their T&Cs for the $1,700 off promotion:
"Available to port-in and new customers only (excluding JB Upfront/Prepaid, The Good Guys Mobile & Broadband, Telstra or Boost)."

    • Thanks for sharing!

  • Can someone clarify then why the early cancellation fee is only costing them a maximum of ~$800 dollars when on the "Telstra Standard Terms JB Hi-Fi Mobile Upfront Service Terms" clearly states:

    "6 LEAVING
You can transfer your mobile number out from us
6.1 If you choose to transfer your number to another mobile service provider on another
network, we’ll use reasonable efforts to transfer your number. Your Mobile Service and any
extras will be cancelled once the transfer is complete.
    Voucher Repayment Fee
6.2 If you received a JB Hi-Fi Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel
that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding
amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher
    Repayment Fee).
6.3 The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of the base
Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months) remaining in your
Voucher Term. For example, if received a voucher with a 24-month Voucher Term, then in:
    (a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
    (b) Month 12: You will need to repay 11/24 of the Voucher you received; and
    (c) Month 23: You will need to repay 1/24 of the Voucher you received. "

I do understand that the ~$800 maximum may be an early cancellation fee as per the T&Cs of the Telsta Plan per se, however, how is everyone tackling/dodging these terms pertaining to the Vocher Repayment Fee (prorata)?

Any insights on this aspect would be greatly appreciated before committing to such a massive amount…

note: the terms are a part of the document "JB HI-FI MOBILE UPFRONT SERVICE TERMS
This section sets out specific terms that apply to services on a JB Hi-Fi Mobile Upfront Plan. These
terms are in addition to the General Terms and relevant Critical Information Summary. "

    • We are not dodging it, it is telstra themselves not charging us for it.

The way I see it, the issue is on the JB and telstra integration system. Telstra promote the $1700 off S25U on $99 telstra plan, but the system only have the standard $99 sim card only plan. This means that JB can only sign customers up for that and manually create the $1700 gift card afterwards. Telstra has no visibility of this. All they see is someone has signed up to the $99 plan, on 24 months contract.

Easy fix is to have a specific plan for when JB/telstra have these deals, so that the contract can accurately portray the gift card provided.

  • Looking to trade in S23 for this deal, but just seems extremely risky. Lets say trade in value is 200, plus 200 bonus coupon stacked with 1700.

    2137 - 1700 - 200 (phone trade) - 200 (coupon) = $37 out of pocket in store.
Then 800 for the plan cancellation (give or take).
    Total Cost: 837.

If the deals dont stack youll have to cancel the trade in, no coupon and you are stuck in a plan.
    Total Cost: 437 + 800 = 1237 (not bad but still risky)

Can anyone here share how risky it is or likelihood of the coupons not stacking on the 1700 deal?
Chances of screwing it up? (for those who pulled it off)

    • Have you try check out this https://www.webuyback.com.au/ and sell to them?

For my case, I decided to go with this and selling the phone S24U 512gb for $970 compared to JB trade in $810 + $200 … a difference of $40.

  • May i know does the receipt show the full amt and offset with the gc?

Does it ask for full name & address for the receipt?

    • The receipt does show the full amount of the ticket price, and then offset with GC.

For receipt, it does not ask for full name & address.

  • Bookmarked, thanks OP 👍

  • Is it same price that was on preorder?
