SWANN Wireless Alarm Kit With Panic Alarm - $99 - Dick Smith

50

Here's a decent deal - cheaper than anywhere else I could find. Available new on eBay and the like for $149+.

Note this is the model with 3 Window/Door sensors, 3 PIR Sensors and a keypad. The ones you can find for around $90-$100 are the packs with only 2 Window sensors and 2 PIR Sensors (and the crappy keypad).

8 Security stickers! Put one on your window, letterbox, TV, Fridge and dog!

  • FYI I don't think this pack comes with an external strobe, and hence doesn't meet AAMI's "local alarm" requirements to reduce your premium.

  • 'Staff took all the stock' :)

  • +1 for the sticker on dog description :)

  • is the wireless alarm reliable?

    • We use these at work, there are over 100 of these rolled out in various work buildings and they're better than some of the other chinese stuff installed.

generally good, but one problem: it is easy to defeat, - the siren plugs into the keypad and the keypad has an AC connection to the wall. Unplug either and the siren stops.

    • I suppose ti depends whee you plug it in.
I've seen a few keypads inside the front door, & they drilled through the wall & whack the a/c plug in the garage.

These are bad for so many reasons:

    • it does not beep when you trigger the front door alarm, so you don't know it is active until the siren goes off.
    • no separate keypad, so it is trivial to smash the plastic unit to silence it.
    • no ability to easily add a battery. Defeated by pulling the plug or fuse box.
    • cannot even configure it to beep when triggered instead of alarm. That feature would have made is a bit useful.
    • AAA batteries for the PIRs will get expensive (at least it does not use 9V batteries like some ebay versions)
    • no external strobe or siren
    • repeatedly triggers over and over, in violation of noise regulations. Will lead to your neighbours breaking in to unplug the damnded thing.
    • 433 MHz sensors are non-standard. Will probably not interoperate with other parts.

Overall: sensors are OK, but the base unit was designed by idiots.
