not the best since there are more choices but with around $400, this is worth spending for a windows tablet + laptop instead of pricey surface pro ;). Sipping is $5.59 for me in NSW, pretty decent postage cost

Nice find
Only windows 7, so I imagine its a much older chipset. Still a good deal, I guess.
i5 so can handle windows 8.1 and future versions
Comes with a Core i5 470UM - i believe this is around 3 years old now?
but the price says it all, worth your $$$ ;)
also, you can go with this if you can afford a bit extra, it's Asus Taichi 21 http://www.harveynorman.com.au/asus-taichi-21-convertible-la… for $1043
I think your definition of "a bit" needs a rethink.
or this if you can afford a little BIT more : http://thebillionaireshop.com/products/one-million-dollar-la…
just confirmed from HN, it comes with keyboard too
1 x User Manual
1 x Warranty Card
1 x Support DVD
1 x Foil Case (with support function)
1 x Power Adaptor
1 x Bluetooth Keyboard
1 x Cleaning Cloth
5 x Refill Nibs
1 x Nib Remover
2 x AAA Battery for KB… you need batteries for a keyboard?
What is this, 1995? :P
You always need batteries for a wireless keyboard hotshot.
You come from the future? I never seen a keyboard that required batteries in 1995
Personally I wouldn't recommend it. It can't handle any games except for basic flash games. It's sluggish. At full use you get about 2-3 hours out of the battery (which is about on par with most laptops). And Windows 7 is not designed for touch screens.
Still if you are after something like this it's a good price.
shipping is $5.59 for me in NSW
It shows free shipping for postcode 3008
favor VIC consumers ;)
too heavy and battery no good.
but light for pocket ;)
Professional anniversary.
I was gonna say. I think this is the exact model…
Personally, I would recommend a windows tablet with docked keyboard like surface pro or sony/lenovo tabs.
Good if you want to use it at home/ office as a desktop or tablet.
Would have been great, if it had a docked keyboard like Asus transformer tablets. But still a good price. Can it be upgraded to run windows 8?
yes
i have one
This is really tempting but there are lots of new devices in this price range based on the new atom processor due soon which are probably a better buy.
Looks like windows 8 will run on this with a bios upgrade.10 months ago ;-)
This was $122 end of last year. No deal.
But HM lied that was error price
Wth HMIf my memory serves me correctly it was back in boxing day 2012….went through hell trying to get refunds (took nearly 2mths)!
I believe that was the deal that caused them to start tracking OzB's IP traffic adding a 'Hello OzBargainer' popup & coined the term 'Professionals'. Dastards!
bought one second hand about 6 months ago for same price.
not a bad unit for the price, have installed Windows 8 on it.
couple of things to watch out for.
loud fans, short battery life, and I have had problems with the bluetooth (planning to upgrade the card soon).Just a word of warning, if you want to change the SSD internally (we have a few at work) we found it very difficult to get an ssd that will work and somewhat difficult to change it (only because there are no screws and lots of plastic clips that can break easily :)).
Also 64gig might become a pain with a full blown windows installed.:)
it is however a bargain specially if you can win8 on it to fix the win7 touchscreen issue's
i changed my SSD in like 5 mins…i dont know what your talking about? it has screws
i think you are talking about the case, in which case you need to open it via the usb ports and use a credit card or iphone repair kit esque plastic spatula tool to wedge it openbe careful of the fan sensor ribbon
i do not have touchscreen issues with windows 8 and a few driver fixes from tabletpc forums fixed it
yup i'am talking about the case and snapping them open and yes it takes 5 mins to do but we had a fair few SSD's not work. You should include the model and size of SSD you used, would be very helpful for others.
and as i said the touchscreen is fine under win 8 but under win 7 its not as good (because of win 7 not the screen)
here's a video on how to open it

quite a low powered i5 - benchmarking not much better than the old netbook atoms. combine with w7 which isn't exactly optimized for tablets it sounds like a recipe for disaster. portability isn't quite a selling point when you only have 2 hours battery. $122 would have been as much as i was willing to pay
an i5 being only slightly better than the original atoms? What benchmarks are these?
i stand corrected..i must have remembered wrong. but it's still fairly weak, these aren't full powered i5s you see in notebooks. even the pentium B960s have better benchmarks than these. so unless tablet form is really important to you it's not great value for computing power. it also weighs like a brick
it also weighs like a brick
I have done some research.
An individual standard brick typically weighs 2 to 3 kg and this is only 1.2kg.i also did some research. a brick has a volume of 1922 cm3. this tablet comes to 1047 cm3 given the dimensions provided, so about half that of a brick. let's use your 2-3 kg and pick the middle mark, i.e. 2.5kg. 2.5/2 is 1.25kg and voila! almost exactly like a brick for its relative size :)
I didn't have any spare bricks around at my house, so I took a few out of the wall to do some research, and now my house fell over.
Does it have bluetooth?
now my house fell over.
Hats off to your dedication to research.
I hope you had building insurance in place.
If not, remember to get it from AAMI next time. AAMI provides unlimited building cost.
PS. I am not associated with AAMI. I am just a happy customer of AAMI.
Lucky~~~ you are with AAMI!I also went ahead and ordered some screen protectors for this brick idea. i dont want a broken brick if I drop it on my toe.
I ordered a rear protector and paid extra for the mirror film so I can stare at myself while gazing into my house brick this summer.
I guess it beats singing into my hairbrush.
This is a good Windows 7/8 tablet.
EP121 vs MOST other Windows 8 tablets:
4GB RAM vs 2GB RAM
12.1" vs 10.1" inch
CPU benchmark 1329(i5 U470) vs 679 (Z2760)
with keyboard vs no keyboardThe only downside is battery life I think.
then you will want to spend money and upgrade it to Win8 as W7 isn't for tablets and will struggle
and remember this thing is 1.2 kg..it's not meant to be used as a pure tablet
that's what it comes down to. it doesn't do the job of a computer or a tablet particularly well.. it's an awkward in between with identity issues
Clover Trail tablets have Connected Standby too, fanless designs and are much thinner/lighter, overall are more functional as a tablet.
There are some positives to this ASUS though as you called out.
So who is the target consumer for this slate? Someone who wants a tablet that runs their windows software?
The only good thing is the keyboard is included, maybe they should'nt have used a 1st gen i5, think about how much better it would be with a ULV CPU, no more noisy cooling fans + smaller battery=thinner & lighter slate that is still fast and has much better battery life!ummm… link is not working… is this another pricing error thingie again.
can not find on HN site
Picked up the similar Samsung ATIV XE700t1a from OW for $299. Comes with a dock and keyboard, but no keyboard dock, been trying to get one for 2 months and everyone I speak to says it doesn't exist. Not sure why they would use a different dock connector aside from purposeful incompatibility.
TBH I would be happy with the unit even if I could get a decent Keyboard cover from it so I could use it as a laptop
HN have taken EP121 off the site. No longer able to see the deal, its not even sold out..
Why neg just because you missed out?
and finally HN honours the deal but not $70 sth lol
