    Good

  • Is there a certification that can be gained at the end of this?

So it's essentially 1.5 hours per week?

    Looks a good deal :)

    • if you pay 235 bucks to cisco and pass an exam

      • Fair enough. Out of interest, what sort of value does this certification hold in the industry?

        • +3

          http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1338528

Like any Industry Certs, without the experience to back it up its worthless…

        • -7

CCNA holds the same value as a roll of toilet paper

        • +3

How do you get experience? Wouldn't that require being hired before you complete the cert?

        • +1

That is why it difficult to get your first job in the industry you have no experience.

So usually people will make a transition from helpdesk/system admin role then push over to networking. Use the certification to prove that they are interested and have some knowledge so they can do more networking task.

If fresh from uni/tafe. Use certification to show interest in the field and have something to talk about during interviews

        • +5

CCNA holds more value than a Computer Science Degree from Uni depending on what job you are going for.

        • Many entry jobs requires none to tiny amount of experience. What they look is your willingness to work and some basic knowledge on how you can handle the job. This CCNA cert certainly helps you put check marks on them.

Sure in much more advanced jobs CCNA cert would looks like a joke, thus Cisco have CCNP and CCIE that covers much more in-depth topics.

But for many 0-knowledge audience as this itmasters want to reach, free CCNA is god-send to put 1st step into IT/networking world.

        • Indeed, thats what I have done. Sysadmin to Networking.

how do u go about doing this at the end ?

    • +7

Just thought i might give some details on this because I'm currently doing a Masters in IT at UTS. I've recently completely CCNA1 and 2 and exams. I'm soon doing CCNA3 & 4 to complete a CCNA certification at CISCO.

Basically this looks like a basic course on the fundamentals of CISCO networking. It might give you a piece of paper to say you've done it but its nothing compared to the actual CISCO CCNA certification which includes subjects CCNA 1, 2, 3 and 4. You could complete this course then further study at home and then call cisco organise a exam for ($200+ as adn mentions) but you'd probably fail.

You really would need a lot more training than this course looks to provide because i can see all you do is an online exam. I did many of these online exams they are very basic multiple choice. You really need the practical experience to design a network, subnet, configure, troubleshoot etc along with written theory exams etc

      Just my 2c

PS: having said all that, it IS free so certainly can't complain with free education. You could use it is a taste test of the cisco environment. which i'm sure its intended as…

      • I miss UTS. Don't know if you are applicable for internship or the grad program. Have a look anyways!

      • I agree with you to a point. I did CCNA at TAFE and the packet tracer program is good practice but it doesn't give you any experience with real world problems i.e. a billion cables, dead ports, keeping track of every cable, etc. However it's kind of like driving you have to learn the theory before you go for a drive or you'll be wasting your time. This is a good course for someone to do before they go out and get the cert. BTW CCNA exam doesn't require any actual hardware config you'll just be using packet tracer like program, CCNP requires hardware I've heard though. So why not for something to put on your resume?

It's being run by a reputable Australian education provider. I'm always highly critical of these online courses, especially given those Udemy ones posted on here every other day run by unknown unreputable so called trainers. This one is definitely worth a look though.

  • I will not be able to access at the scheduled timings. How to access the webinars later?

    • Their current courses with webinars are recorded.

      Hi there,

If you register for the short course on our site you can access the recordings at any time. The video will be posted shortly after each live webinar and you will be notified how to access them by email.

      Cheers,

      Sarah

      • Thanks Sarah !

  • Perfect timing. Landing a new job that will need me to do my CCNA, hopefully this will help.

Hey rep, any idea whether this is based on the 640-x or 100-x/200-x exams?

    • CCNA - 640-802
      ICND1- 640-822
      ICND2 - 640- 816

    • Should cover the same material whether you take the one exam or two separate one. Save money, just do the one

      Hi there,

It would be great if you could direct any of your specific questions to the discussion forum - Matt should be able to take it from there!

      Cheers,

      Sarah

      • Thanks Sarah, will do!

  • I'm assuming the exam needs to be pid for?

    • +3

Lol c'mon, not everything is free :P

      • +1

Especially not Cisco! Ask any network administrator the cost of the "CISCO" badge in their rack rather than say HP.

        • +1

Nobody ever got fired for buying Cisco equipment.

        • They might have if it blew their budget.

  • Nice. Thanks OP. +!

  • Yes, this is great, even if its just to build your knowledge in IP, MDN etc. I work for a big Telco and having your CCNA is INCREDIBLY valuable here, especially as we deal with Cisco on a daily basis.

  • If you follow the link below on IT Masters page, you can sign up for a few other free courses, including SharePoint 2013 Development, Win Phone 8 Development, Photoshop, etc (some were posted on OzBargain before):

These were conducted earlier in the year, so you get access to the webinar recordings and related materials straight away.
