  • Can anyone comment on the quality between Dicks and Buns?

    • Have never used the DS ones but regularly use Bunnings and can vouch for them.

I prefer Buns, Dicks don't do it for me.

These are about 4 cents more expensive per cell for slightly poorer quality batteries.
If you're desperate for alkalines - and nowhere near a Bunnings - then I suppose this is a deal.

pmupsinep - are buns sufficient enough simulation for you to not need your pp?

  • i bought them before, looks ok.

  • Just based on price alone, the Bunnings Varta are a much better deal. Both are alkaline but I don't have any personal experience with the Varta. With the DSE ones, I used the AAA ones in my MP3 player for a couple of years and never had any problems with them. They lasted almost as long as the standard Duracell or Energizer Alkaline.

  • These have been available from as low as $4 before I believe, maybe less. Bought a few, they're okay - nothing great of course.

Has anyone used the Chevron brand batteries that Big W sell?
About the same price as the Varta from Bunnings

    For Price comparison

DSE - 33.7c each When you buy 80
Varta (Bunnings) - 29.9c each When you buy 30
Chevron (Big W) - 29.9c each When you buy 20

I believe, from fairly close scrutiny, that they come off the same production line as the Eclipse batteries that Jaycar (used to?) (haven't been in there for a while) sell. Which means that they're pretty good - but not stellar.
Tried a pack of AAA batteries some time back, and they did indeed perform about the same as the Eclipse ones.

      • Thanks mate.
I might give them a go and see how they hold up

        • Go for the Vartas instead. They do last longer. Ikea's batteries are excellent also, and very keenly priced. As are Aldi's, which beat Duracell Ultra's - overall - in one test I read. They had large packs very cheap some time ago. They'll come around again.

  • I've had too many DSE batteries leak electrolyte. Nasty stuff.
    Get Varta.

    • I bought a pack of these last year for the kids toys. So far, used about 10 batteries in different toys, and have had 2 batteries leak. Would not recommend them for that reason.
