  • is this Kit Contains 1 X D-Link DHP-346AV Powerline AV 4-Port Switch And 1 x D-Link DHP-306AV Powerline AV Network Adapter?

    • It is the DHP-346AV switch only :)

  • so one need to have D-Link DHP-306AV Powerline AV Network Adapter for it to work?

    • These work together as receivers. Can buy two or three and use them on the same circuit. They will talk to each other :) Can use up to 6 together and they will work without adapters.

      • so every adapter you're selling here have 4 LAN ports?

        • Yes

        • that means it's bulky!

  • nearly bought one and found out it only had the switch :(

    • Was going to buy one as well but good I confirmed first. :(

      • These work together as receivers. Can buy two or three and use them on the same circuit. They will talk to each other.

        • I'm a bit confused .. you say they "work together as receivers" . does that mean you need some other product to act as a transmitter?

        • +1

          Hi Noz,

you can use these us either transmitter or receiver.

As long as both are connected to the same circuit.

i.e. Unit 1 is connected to your powerline and Router close to your exisitng router and then unit 2 is connected in the location where you want your powerline signal to be received at.

      • the rep explained very clearly. is it rocket science?

    • Can have up to 6 :)

I've used some of these at home and am pretty happy with them. Does what it says on the box, really :-)

Rep - nice to see some decent shipping prices from megabuy, I've bought the odd thing from you a few years ago and shipping prices were usually horrendous.

  • Temping as I have the TP-Link Power line modules and this would actually be perfect for putting out in my lounge with TV, Xbox and media centre

  • It's a great device but only 1 port has top speed and the other three decrease in priority. So you might plug in Apple TV to socket 1 but your pvr to socket 4 for ice tv (low data usage).

    • Hi Davo,

you are correct but I would like to add.

Port 1 & 2 - colour Yellow - Medium Priority, suggest using netwrok data devices like printers
Port 3 - Colour Purple - High Priority, reccomending game consoles
Port 4 - Colour Light Green - Highest Priority for uninterupted service

While these are priortised if a higher port is not being used then the lower connections will step up and use the bandwidth while it is available

  • Can this inter work with TP-Link?

    • Hi Bargainer,

While the documentation does not state specific compatibilities regarding other branded powerline devices, I have looked through the documentation and beleive that with some configuration it is possible. Although I am not familiar with how much customisation you can do with the TP link variants.

Take a look at the User manual, section 3 (page10)

    Hi fellow OzBargainers

Just to clarify as long as your router / existing powerline network is all connected to the same circuit through your homes wiring then according to D-Link and the below linked User manual these units can be used.

While as a rep I know I cannot +vote or skite about a good deal but I will be getting me 2 of these as well to upgrade my existing Foxtel installed powerline network.

    Link for the D-Link User manual for this device;

It's power phases, not circuit breakers. And most recent homes built in the last ten years will not have more than one power phase.

But even now there are EOP adapters that can work across different power phases.

    • So will this add ports to the foxtel powerline setup?

      • I cannot confirm 100% it will work with existing powerline setups of a different brand and I have dug far enough to say that for myself ill be taking two of the units and first trying it on the Netgear units Foxtel provided.

If it works then it just means I have an extra room with the AV switch as well as my lounge.

For those sensitive to speed, current tech is 500mbps. This is 200mbps.
You won't get close to that of course, but still it's roughly doubling of the speed with the later models.

    • current tech 500mbps?? 1Gbps is out ages ago……I even saw some 750~800mbps around…..

      • current tech 500mbps?? 1Gbps is out ages ago…

Care to link to some products?

I don't see 1Gbps powerline stuff on any of the big manufacturer's websites.
AV500 is the maintream 'high performance' standard now for powerline stuff.
        http://www.netgear.com.au/home/products/powerline/
        http://www.tp-link.com.au/products/?categoryid=206
        http://www.dlink.com.au/products/category/?cid=10
        etc.

        AV200 are the slower ones.
        AV500 the faster ones.

Maybe you're thinking of the ethernet ports being gigabit-rated.

        • maybe this
          http://www.belkin.com/us/p/P-F5D4076

OK. There must be a reason the major manufacturers haven't released gigabit powerline stuff yet. Plus that price is in the stratosphere; it's not anywhere close to competing with the mainstream gear, but you do get two.

For all intents and purposes, AV500 is the mainstream high performance standard and it can be had for not much more than the AV200 stuff.

edit: incidentally that page is VERY low on details; I'm not 100% convinced of the standards the adapter supports (mislabelling ethernet port speed as powerline gigabit?). No mention of any standards or specs.

Two asterisks next to the gigabit line. Where are the extra details?
Transfers data at speeds of up to 1000Mbps**

          Compatible with HomePlug® AV products
          Yet doesn't mention the standard…

Hmm, I'm not convinced. More than likely shonky Belkin advertising selling regular 500 or 200 models while suggesting gigabit. All the bigger names don't have product selling to average Joe, so I don't see Belkin one-upping them.

        • LOL, reason is it's expensive = unpopular!

but doesn't mean it's not around!
Australia really need to catch up with tech…..

        • LOL, reason is it's expensive = unpopular!

I'm not convinced the Belkin is what it claims. Manufacturers typically don't like to undercut their retailers, so that explains the higher price, I reckon.

I bet this only has gigabit rated ports, not powerline gigabit. Otherwise other manufacturers would be in on this. Belkin doesn't even mention the standards it uses.

          Shonky.

      • I agree with cheepwun… AV500 is the current top standard (with gigabit ports).

A word of warning… If you mix AV200 and AV500 on the same network, the network will operate at the lowest speed for all points.

  • Hang on - I don't have any POWER AC networking in my house at the moment. Can I buy 2 of these. I want to achieve :

ROUTER —-cat 5—-this dlink device—-POWER LINE—-this dlink device —cat 5— Xbox

    • Yes katz.

That will work assuming your home is only on one circuit breaker.

Do you mean we have to purchase 3 of single switch?

Or we choose the double and single switches (that means the single switch is more expensive)?

How about the delivery cost? Do we have to pay double too?

Please do us all a favour and take the time to report to the relevant body in your state if you get the same treatment.

  • It isn't that significant, but add 2.5% if paying by Paypal or Credit Card

    • Hi Noz,

If you want to avoid the 2.5% handling then you may select Bank Transfer as payment method

    • people also tend to forget how they buy the WHOLE LOT of CHEAP microserver just to control the retail price, so that other companies cannot get cheap wholesale price and pass the discount to the customer!
(also a few incident after, like they post pic showing off they stock the whole lot in their warehouse)

and look at all the complaint they received……for these reason, I would never support this company……
if they want customer back, they should have better services/promises & offer lots of unbelievable deals to us!

  • In the spirit of supporting the well spirited penny pincher community of ozbargainers, lets dodge any company that is trying to rip off this community!!! Rise up boys and girls and DOBthose suckers in and make them gone forever !!!

  • Last time took me 2 months to get my refund because they failed to send. Worse ever customer service.
I said I'll never deal with this mob again. And they still charged me service fee because it was their fault for not sending.
