  • Spotted this last catalogue myself and thought it was perhaps a pricing mistake as Aldi had a near identical 5 piece kit for $198 a few weeks back.

3yr warranty on this + usual Ozito caveats (don't compare to Dewalt etc) but incredible value for average folks.

This deal deserves multiple +'s but might be overlooked as Bunnings is stating it as an 'everyday' price, nice find OP is a very good deal.

    • +1

i think the aldi kit has a 13mm chucks. this one only has 10mm chucks

      • +2

Consider ring the target market its not so bad. The average drill being used 3 minutes a year, how often is the average 10-13mm bit used?

  • +2

masters also has a 6 piece kit for $120 at the moment though it only appears to have 1 battery http://www.masters.com.au/product/100461672/909-18v-li-ion-6…

    • +2

I bought one of those for $95 using the Masters $25 coupon a while back, let me tell you that these tools are tiny, like kids toys. They've basically been handed off to the wife, they don't really have the guts for serious work. As you mention, the single battery & lack of fast charger is a significant drawback as well.

FWIW, the design of the 909 set looks remarkably similar to that of this Ozito kit, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they came out of the same factory, so you'll definitely need to lay hands on them before you make a decision; but on the up-side the batteries might well be interchangeable!

    • +2

It is $98 for the 14.4 with 2 batteries.
      http://www.masters.com.au/product/900034856/909-lithium-ion-…

I bought this a few weeks back mainly as i was looking for a cordless screwdriver. Works well so far. I have a proper large drill as well but for most small jobs this is fine. The torch is surprising more useful that i thought it would be. Is quite bright and also LED so will last ages on one charge.

      • Oooh, that deserves a post of its own!

      • I bought this one too, it's pretty good. Was tossing it up with the Ozito at the time. Best part about the 909 is that the warranty covers the batteries for 2.5 years. Ozito is only 12 months. If anything is going to go on these it's most likely the batteries.

See here under the warranty accesories in the FAQ:
        http://www.909.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article…

"Are my accessories covered under the 909 warranty?
All accessories that are included with the initial purchase are covered by the 909 warranty.
        This includes:
Powertool accessories such as battery and chargers"

  • Spotted a full pallet of these in Bunnings yesterday arvo.
I was tempted but bought the 12 volt 3 piece set for $79 6 months ago. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/92648
I've flogged the drills and they haven't missed a beat. That was excellent value but this is much better.
Ozito 3 year warranty is unbelievable.

As I was heading out he store probably an hour later about 1/4 of the pallet was already gone. Seemed to be a few tradies swooping on them too!

    • Just getting goes to show that things are only ever going to get cheaper, that first post was raved about from memory

    • I just bought the old $79 pack for $75 and think it's better value as I was after the multi tool which still sells for $79 stand alone. Go figure…but no complaints here.

  • +2

Dont mean to nitpick but its Lithium - ion not Lithium - Lon. Its a capital "i".
Anyway, looks like a good deal so i will take a look while im picking up this. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/114257

  • Edited - I instead of L, I didn't realise but it was advised title by ozbargain website.

  • Given that the spare batteries are around $20 to $30 each, that makes the tools pretty cheap. With anything other than the smallest jobs it helps to have a spare battery already charged. There's nothing more frustrating than getting half way through a job and having to wait for the battery to recharge.

    • Note that with Li-ion it is safe to top-up charge after use, and they hold the charge.
Whereas NiCd and NiMH are best used until flat before recharging with the ususal dumb-chargers that come with cheap power tools. And they drain between uses.

      • +1

No, only NiCd suffer from memory effect.
NiMh don't, discharging them before charging will kill them early.

        • I'm not referring to the much-misunderstood memory effect.
The point that their life is reduced by dumb-chargers overcharging them.
If you are starting with a flat battery, you know how long it needs to charge properly.
So with NiMH, its good to use until flat, swap and charge.
Top-up charging NiMH really needs either a trickle-charge, or a smart-charger than knows when it is done.
With Li_Ion, its easier to top-up after every use.

        • But any even 1/2 decent drill will have a "smart charger" so it'll know all that stuff, and to stop charging when the batteries are full.

          We're in 2013 you know, not 1985.

  • How many amp hours for the batteries?

    • +1

Ozito site says batteries are 1.3Ah Li-Ion.

Bought this kit at this price last year.. Love it.. Impact driver alone is the best item.. And the torch is fantastic. Last year's post http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77708

    • How long do the batterys last?

I know it's not meant for it, but do you think it would have enough torque to rattle off lug nuts? Do you feel it truly has 120nm of torque?

Could you provide a bit of a review on the impact driver, like what you've used it for etc? Have you tried other brands and would it be possible to compare?

      • I hardly use it and I don't remember charging em.. They hold charge like for ever.

Also I agree the drill is rubbish but the impact ddriver is awesome. OK I haven't had another impact driver..but this driver does feel like it has a lot of torque.. Only used on odd jobs so can't really comment or do a thorough review.

        • Thanks mate

        • I took the head off a screw with the impact driver when putting in a door jamb dodgily. So, there's that. Was trying to get it to self counter-sink (the screw was that kind), but the wood was a bit grippy and, well, gone went the head. Still, it sheared off slightly below the plane, so as good as counter-sunk I guess.

You are better off getting the 12volt 3 piece Ozito kit, the drill has a dual speed gear box and single handed chuck and all of the tools are a much better build quality, there is also an impact driver and ocillating multi tool.
A mate at work dropped his drill off a 5 meter roof onto bricks and the only damage was a broken drill bit, he has the Makita 12volt drill and impact driver as well and prefers the Ozito.
Unless you are after the particular tools in the 18 volt set.

  • Damn, I paid $149 for this last month. The impact driver in this kit is quite good. The saw is next to useless.

On another note, I purchased the 254mm SCMS for $99 down from $148.

    • Easy, buy one at this price, and then return it with the old receipt :)

      • Gooood.

  • Can anyone comment whether there is much of a power and reliability difference between the impact driver in this kit and a Bosch green 18v impact driver? In particular the PDR18li

I'm getting mixed messages about green bosch. I think they have metal gears whereas Ozito is plastic gears?

  • Got the drill and impact drive kit as a present last Christmas. Drill is not very great, impact drive is awesome. Battery last a really long time. I have only used my charger twice since new.

  • Looks like a cheap price but unfortunately not for me. The drill and driver need a belt clip.

ROFL - what a deal breaker!

  • 2 batteries, 3 tools, 1 torch, 3 year replacement, great!
    Bought!

  • These are a special promo item

None left at Nth Parramatta in Sydney, nor at Auburn

At 3:30pm there was apparently 8 at Castle Hill

I grabbed one at Lidcombe near Costco , and as I type this there are 3 left

  • I bought one of these kits last time. Good value. I barely use them, so they suit me well. Batteries are still charged when I pull them out months after previously charging. I* managed to put a door and jamb in with them, so not too shabby (had a corded 'taurus' jigsaw for some of the cutting that I got from aldi though. Which is pretty crap. the 'laser guide' points about 20 degrees off to the side and the blades are blunt as hell. The ozito tools are much better).

just remember what these are: hobby tools for occasional use, not tradesman's everyday kit, and you'll be happy with them.

    • Mostly my dad, who's a builder. So that's kind of cheating. But he thought they were pretty good for the price.
  • I've been using ozbargain for the past 2 years, and finally from this post signed up, would this be suitable if I wanted to build a dog house, cutting, drilling, etc. Thank you for the post, cool find :)

    • +1

The saw is pretty rubbish.. Drill and driver are OK..

    • +2

would this be suitable if I wanted to build a dog house, cutting, drilling, etc

For the drills, yes of course. That is what they are designed for.

But the saw in this kit is a bit of a specialised toy - only useful as a cordless jigsaw.

To cut things, buy a stock-standard old fashioned hand saw.

      • +3

I agree with llama, this cordless saw will be better than the one in the pack.

        • Hahaha wow thanks a lot guys! back to the amish days :D

  • This might be a stupid question but can this drill go through concrete? I need to screw blinds to a concrete beam

    • -3

      You're right.

      • +1

        You're a waste of space

        • Angry little Gen-Y'er…

    • +2

No, the drill in this set is for wood etc. The impact driver is for screws and bolts

For concrete just buy the cheapest ($20-30) corded hammer drill from Bunnings plus a suitable 6mm masonry drill bil and wall plugs

  • None at Port Melbourne

  • Two at Box Hill at 2:30pm this afternoon.

  • None at lidcome, pennant Hill or carlingford . Left it to late :(

  • i got one set from vermont south bunning this afternoon , still got one left when i left…

  • Picked one up from Mascot, not many left but was advised this is the normal price by the tool shop assistant

    • According to Bunnings website, $149 is normal.

  • Phoned a few stores in Melbourne today, and the only one that had stock was Hawthorne. They were in the DIY workshop area before you walk through the main entrance. There was 2 left after I took one (at approx 5pm)
