American Express Gold Ascent Card - $0 Annual Fee

240

Just found this new (I think) offer on their site, where you can get the card with $0 annual fee (for life - I'm assuming)

Features

  • $0 annual fee (for both primary and supplementary cards)
  • Earn 1 MR point for every $2 spend
  • 1 MR Point = 1 Frequent Flyer point in Cathay Pacific, Malyasia Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, Virgin, or New Zealand Airlines
  • 44 interest free days
  • 19.99% interest rate

From what I know, this is the only free frequent flyer credit card available at the moment.

  • good find but Amex is not as widely accepted as MC or Visa. Citibank Gold/Platinum with no annual fee is still the best for me. Overseas travellers should get the Wizard Clear Advantage MC for fee free transactions/withdrawals.

Citibank Gold/Platinum free for life is not available anymore, and I don't think you can apply for the Wizard card anymore (correct me if I'm wrong).

i dont think Citibank Gold/Platinum with no annual fee is still available does it?

      • No I don't think its available.

  • $2 = 1 point

that is not good enough. but good find. thanks

    • Want to boost your points earning power? Pay an $80 annual fee and you'll double your points with 1 point for every dollar spent1. It's that easy.
      - From their site !

    • Yeah, it's normally 1 for 1, but this is a discounted rate to go with the discounted card. Given that they include the $80 rate, it looks like tricky marketing to see if they can encourage an upsell out of it.

im lucky i got that citi gold (then got free update to platinum) for free fee - ever. but if this also free for live, im thinking, why not have 1 visa and 1 amex ? aslong both free

    • I've got the free citi platinum as well and the free qantas amex card and both are better than this deal, but unfortunately they're not free anymore so this would be the cheapest frequent flyer card for new applicants.

  • Wipe the surcharge at all the retailers and I may consider it ;)

AMEX is also very difficult to deal with in the accounts dept.

  • amexis easy to deal with , i have a gold amex and they are the most helpful of all card companies
