Perth-Fremantle Swan River Cruise. $3.15 One Way. 13th-17th July, 31st July-4th August

50

As part of the Train shutdowns in Perth to facilitate upgrades of the Perth CityLink project Transperth will be providing a limited Ferry service between Perth and Fremantle. This ferry service will be SmartRider enabled (confirmed with Transperth InfoLine). As it's a 2-zone journey if you have a SmartRider with auto-load enabled it will cost you $3.15 one way with no concessions. A concession with auto-load is $1.28 or a full priced cash ticket $4.20

Standard TransPerth ticket info here: http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/TicketsandFares.aspx

Transperth will operate a ferry service from Barrack Street Jetty to Fremantle B Shed, just look for the James Stirling vessel, operated by Captain Cook Cruises.
The ferry will operate from Saturday 13 until Wednesday 17 July and from Wednesday 31 July** until Sunday 4 August

There are only 5 return services each day as listed under "Fremantle Ferry" on this page: http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/ServiceUpdates/ServiceDisrup…

Due to their being no Fremantle trains running I anticipate demand may be high.

Captain Cook Cruises will be operating the ferry for TransPerth and normally charge $27 one way. It's the same 1hr15min duration as this one:

  • I hope there will be more buses. They just tell you to take X bus, but they don't tell you whether they will be running them more than say every 30 minutes. They should have done this when the weather was warmer.

When you go to journey planner and enter your start and end points, it still gives you train journeys.

    Thanks Transperth.

  • I can imagine these will be packed tighter than a sardine can, especially during peak times. Though I think it's safe to say the traffic will be horrendous next week.

    • I'm thinking the 0545 and 0845 departures ex Perth will be quite lightly loaded. Thinking I might do the 0845 on the weekend and take my chances getting home from Fremantle lol

  • I wonder how long would that Ferry takes to go from Freo to Perth or vice-versa

    • 1hr15min as per description above

      • Thats an hour faster than Perth's rail network.

  • This would be a great way to get to work….take a nice relaxing cruise to and from work.

    Nice one Mr Buswell.

However, if the trip is normally $27 …does this mean the tax payer is subsidising $22.80 per trip taken?

    • I assumed TransPerth have a fixed price charter for the whole day

      • Could at least swing by Rotto…Please Capn?

  • Nice way to get to and from work. Pity it will be a chilly -10c both ways,.

  • Ferry on Monday the 15th - http://www.thenewstribe.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/india…

Wouldn't be so full if people just moved down the aisle!!!

  • We took this Captain Cook ferry trip to Fremantle in late May and it was a great one.

Cheap transport was the one bargain we found in Perth at the time - as well as some cheap(ish) nights at the Parmelia Hilton Perth through lastminute.com.au.

  • +1

According to the media reports this service will actually be free.

I imagine this is likely because there aren't any smart rider readers fitted to captain Cook cruise vessels and is actually a nice gesture anyway.
