    saving $250

    from what?

    annual fee of $129.

    put that in the title

    • well… savings are going to vary, so just the cost is necessary IMO

Earn up to 15,000 bonus Velocity Points#. Get 7,500 bonus Points when you make a retail purchase within 3 months of card approval. Get an additional 7,500 Points when you spend $5,000 within 3 months of card approval.

$5000 is a lot. Equates to about $384 a week… Unless you're planning on making a big purchase you will only get 7500 points and if you're going to be spending more than 5 grand every 3 months on a credit card, there is probably better cards out there.

For anyone who has this card (or is planning on it) I spend 1.5k per month in this card, and every year they waive my annual fee (with a little gentle encouragement!)

    • How do you go about that? Just ask them to waive it? Ive had this card for a couple of years and love it for the 2 for 1 flights. Annual fee free would be even better.

      • The first year I called and said I was cancelling the card to move to a no annual fee card. They asked me if they waived the fee would I keep the card. I said yes. Each year thereafter I call back and say, you waived it last year, you need to waive it this year for me (please). They say no, then they offer to halve it, then they cave :)

  • Agree - 7500 for $5k is a joke. Look at what you can trade 7.5k points for - from memory it's about 13.5k for a $100 David Jones or Myer voucher.

Save your money, get a better credit card.

isnt this the card that recently cut back from 4 free flights, to 4 flights at 50% off? saving of $250 from what price?

    • it was always, and still is, 4 free flights a year. they advertise it this way, but in reality it's 4 BOGOF flights, which equates to 50% off the total price, which is what the OP is saying

  • What is the value of the points and what can you use them for?

  • I thought this card suppose to give you a free ticket whenever you purchase a return flight. However, you have to book 21 days in advance?

    • Yeah, that's pretty much it. You get 4 x 2 for 1 tickets a year. You do have to book 21 days in advance. You have to pay credit card fee on both peoples ticket.

1 virgin point is worth 1c roughly if using it to claim flights.

Qantas woolies card will give 15000 points upfront by just making one decent supermarket purchase in the next 3 months and their annual card fee is $89.
    Then it's $1 per point.
This virgin thing is a no deal

    • And you can convert your Qantas points into Woolies gift vouchers: $5 gift voucher per 750 points, max $20 (for 3000 points) every quarter.

    • I think you're slightly missing the point. The 2-for-1 flight can be used even for business class so it can be worth quite a lot. This is the feature that sets this card apart.

I personally got one when the bonus offer was 30k points and like it. I've had to call up Virgin a couple of times to ask some crazy questions about point earnings and the customer service was good.

Not the best card around but definitely worth it if you fly with a companion at least once a year. Easily pays for itself.

    • It's 16000 points by purchase made before 31/8
1 point earns per $1 spent
2 points per $ spent for qantas stuff

  • So it's a Virgin VISA card

  • If I go to BRIS->SYD->BRIS with 2 people is that considered 4 one-ways or 2 return flights ?

People considering this, please be aware that the terms of the card are set to change slightly in Dec 2013, and a few benefits will be cut:

More info on the 2for1 flight offer on this card
    Here's how it works:

Within 10 days of your Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer or High Flyer card being approved, your Velocity Frequent Flyer account will be updated to show your flight redemption activity. As soon as your Velocity account has been updated, you can call Virgin Australia to book your flights. You can buy a Virgin Australia domestic Saver fare and get an exclusive reduced flight offer for you and a friend on the same flight8 up to 4 times a year. This Exclusive reduced flights8 offer provides 50% off the base fare component of a domestic Virgin Australia Saver Fare (which excludes taxes, Booking and Service fees) for the Primary Cardholder and a friend when flying together on the same booking and paid with an eligible Virgin Australia Velocity Credit Card, up to 4 times per year. You’ll need to cover the fees & taxes on both fares. Not available on sale fares, flights subject to availability, 30 day advance booking required and conditions apply. Baggage fees apply to Saver Lite Fares. Booking and service fees can be found at virginaustralia.com.It's important to know that the flights for this offer cannot be booked on the internet and seats are subject to restricted availability. Seat availability and fare prices advertised on the Virgin Australia website are not indicative of the seats and fare prices available for this offer. Seat availability and fare prices available as part of this offer are managed separately by the Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre. The offer is for up to 4 flight sectors per year and a sector is defined as a non-stop flight. So if your flight has a pitt stop on the way to your destination, that is classified as two flight sectors (e.g. a flight from Brisbane to Melbourne, with a Sydney stopover will be considered as 2 flight sectors, Bris → Syd then Syd → Melb). When you're ready to book your flights, give our friends at the Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre a call on 13 67 89 and have your Virgin Flyer Credit Card and Velocity membership number handy and quote promotion code: 'TWO41'. The Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre will be happy to consider other dates you may wish to travel as some dates are more restricted than others.

I've got this card (albeit with 30,000 bonus points ;) )

Every month I get around $4500 points. In my case, the first $1500 I spend on the card is matched at 1 point per dollar - everything after that is 1 point per $2. I buy everything on this card - fuel, groceries, insurances. I pay bills on it - I do everything on it. I transfer money to it as soon as I've spent something on it though so as not to incur interest.

The 2 for 1 offer 4 times a year is eligible per sector; i.e., Mel - Syd is 1 of 4 free flights. Mel - Syd - Bris would be 2/4 flights used.

Great card - I used it a lot and now I'm a Gold member with a fair few points - aiming to go to LAX return in business next year completely on points!

    • Do you have to continually transfer money to avoid interest or can you just pay the entire balance every month and avoid the fees?

      TIA

      • can pay at the end of the billing cycle, no interest. just make sure you pay before due date and stay within credit limit, otherwise they'll charge you.

OP says "which is double my Visa Platinum Qantas FF credit card with ANZ".

My ANZ Plat. Visa gets 1 point for each $1 and 1.5 points on the ANZ Amex Plat. and its unlimited spend.

My spend is extremely high so huge benefits are had.

  • Great card but be warned the 'free' flight thinggy is kind of a marketing gimmick. I've been on this for 4 years now, haven't managed to utilise the free flight offer even once. It always turns out to be cheaper to buy both tickets through online sites like kayak. The 2for1 flight offer only works on full fare flight, promo fare doesn't work. AND you have to pay for the taxes, gst, booking fee on both fares, plus the hassle of calling up and booking it.

On the side note, the card is pretty flashy though. Nice and shiny

    • Good info there, cheers pubo

    • Great sum up, I've had the card for a few years now - same feeling. making a booking is just hassle.
