US Airline Delta Announces $777 (+Taxes) Fare from Sydney to LA (Return)

71

THE world's largest airline has thrown down the challenge to Qantas and others by offering return trans-Pacific flights from $777 return (Prices are ex-tax).

US airline Delta announced the fare, which does not include taxes, on Monday ahead of its expected July launch on the Sydney-Los Angeles route. I've looked at the Delta site and taxes seem to be around $300. This would mean pricing is from just under $1100 Australian.

The airline is also offering customers the chance to fly beyond LA for an extra $200.

More details are available at www.delta.com

    Not really a bargain:

Random search on dates reveal the following prices:

    Sydney to Los Angeles
    Depart 13 Aug
    Return 27 Aug

    United - $739(fare) + $355(taxes) = $1,095
Delta - Booking from their website - $1102
    V Australia - $746(fare) + $364(taxes) = $1,111

A good price, yes. A bargain….well it is cheaper on united as well so I would have to say No.

    • I tend to agree. Adioso can find several flights for around this price (if those prices are ex-tax as described):

      http://adioso.com/search/australia-to-los-angeles.html

      Sydney - LAX is $517 + $451 = $968 return all inc.

That said, I'm all for more competition on this route, so the more the merrier!

      Cheers!

      Fenn.

  • An anouncement not an actual deal- yet.
Show me where I can book this and I'll vote a positive on this;-)

  • travel date start 1 july on their website

  • Air NZ also has fares to LA on sale at the moment.
$922 SYD-LA for travel in May to mid June.

  • V Australia has just released a cutdown price: SYD/MEL - LAX for $971 all inclusive for one way. That's cheaper than Delta.

    • Sorry - I think you read this wrong - while the front page says Sydney-LA and doesn't state return - it is a RETURN fare - when you click thru you find this out. The youngsters at Virgin just didn't really think this thru - ie some of us are so used to airline catches ala taxes, that it needs to be clearly defined what's being offered. As they grow up they'll get more life experience.

As such better a deal than Delta.
