THE world's largest airline has thrown down the challenge to Qantas and others by offering return trans-Pacific flights from $777 return (Prices are ex-tax).
US airline Delta announced the fare, which does not include taxes, on Monday ahead of its expected July launch on the Sydney-Los Angeles route. I've looked at the Delta site and taxes seem to be around $300. This would mean pricing is from just under $1100 Australian.
The airline is also offering customers the chance to fly beyond LA for an extra $200.

Not really a bargain:
Random search on dates reveal the following prices:
Sydney to Los Angeles
Depart 13 Aug
Return 27 Aug
United - $739(fare) + $355(taxes) = $1,095
Delta - Booking from their website - $1102
V Australia - $746(fare) + $364(taxes) = $1,111
A good price, yes. A bargain….well it is cheaper on united as well so I would have to say No.
