  • 1.1Ghz Dual Core Celeron Processor based of Sandy Bridge architecture.. Slow as balls, but way better than Atom I believe. Would probably perform well for basic tasks if you stick in an SSD drive.

I have one of these. I can confirm that it's slow.

Unfortunately, from what I've researched, you can't stick a SSD in them easily.

      • Cheers for that info, I had a feeling it might be a closed unit :(

        • Just a few screws, fairly simple to pop open.

I got one from the JB Hifi 20% sale a month ago. Installed a SSD but it took me a lot of time to figure it out.

If you want to install SSD, check this thread out

      • I bought one of these (touch screen version)as per this deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/98329
Though mine only has 2Gb of RAM but with SSD installed don't have any issues.

At the bottom of the post, i mention about installing a Samsung 840Pro SSD in it.
With the SSD, it is a pretty fast and light notebook.

        • Ah that sounds more promising. So how does it go multitasking, 10 tabs open in chrome, outlook, itunes… would it be able to handle it all ok, or pretty laggy?

        • I haven't had any issues, my understanding is that this would be rubbish for intensive things like photo and video editing. (I don't run iTunes on this, not sure if that would be similar to photos)

But for Internet and Word, Exel, Powerpoint etc this this is pretty quick with the Samsung 840 Pro SSD. And powering on only takes a few seconds. From totally off takes me about 15 seconds to turn on input password and get to home screen. Only takes a second from standby and about 2-3 seconds to launch Word, Exel, Explorer etc.

  • is this a good deal? how does the celeron compare to an atom?

  • Awesome been eyeing on this for a couple of weeks

  • Sold out already?

  • Son of a bitch. Sold out. Grrr

  • Had a play with one in JB and it is fairly snappy. Very light and portable. Only thing that stopped me is the battery is too small (2 cell) and not replaceable.

Saved myself $300 by not impulse buying

    • That's not the OzBargain spirit! As there was a limit of one per person, a real OzBargainer would have bought multiple units using multiple email addresses to save more money.

FYI, one feature mine was missing is bluetooth, but this is easily added with a dongle if needed.

Also worth mentioning is that Shopping Express has had this (or similar ASUS VivoBook X202E models)on sale about 4 times in the last 2 months, so if you missed out, it is possible it will be on sale again.
