Hey, when is this puppy going to be available for Android platforms?

…And they say Android has the bad apps.

So out of curiosity I clicked on the $0.99 Download on the Appstore button on the top of the page.
That took me to iTunes and the app is already listed as Free.

What do we get from entering our email address into the form that we don't get from buying the app direct from Itunes for free?

    • Good point! especially if you have to wait forever for a link…
+1 to SilentDissident -1 to the deal from me. Mods feel free to revoke my vote when the op fixes the description
(App is free for everyone and op advertises it as an ozbspecial, on top of that some of us never got the downloading link in the mail)

Well personally I don't like the idea of this app, allow me to explain. It might be a bargain alright and I won't neg it but here are my reasons.

Already the barriers to entry to Australian Citizenship are fairly simple. The test is based on a very very simple book made available free of charge in multiple languages.

If someone cannot even put the effort to read the book and understand our history and culture they shouldn't be allowed to become citizens, they don't deserve it yet. What hope do we have of such people integrating into the broader Australian society.

For example I have friends who memorized the date of Anzac day because it is a question on the test without actually understanding anything about its history and significance.

I created a similar android app on my own but didn't end up publishing it because of these conflicts. I don't want to make it any easier than it already is for people giving the test. The least we can expect is that they read the small booklet and know something about our history, culture and background before they become citizens.

To know more about the statistics behind the test check this out, it has some interesting information on who passes and fails such a simple test.

    for example:

The percentage of Skill Stream clients who passed the test was 99.9 per cent
The percentage of Family Stream clients who passed the test was 97.9 per cent and
The percentage of Humanitarian Program clients who passed the test was 90.7 per cent

    • i agree with you, but this is not their fault! If Australia's citizenship test is just a multiple choice quiz, then you know who to blame :)

  • Unless it includes flotation devices, sat phone with hotline to the navy taxi service or an airline ticket it's incomplete.

  • Just to note that

    • This app is NOT ALWAYS FREE. According to AppShopper it has only been free since 16 May, and has been hovering between $0.99 and $1.99 over the years. Looks like it has been updated to free prematurely.
    • There are lots of similar apps though. Again search "Australian Citizenship" on AppShopper there are about a dozen or so similar apps in AppStore.
    • I think the reason OP linked to his own website is that the "$0.99 Download on the Appstore" link is actually an affiliate link through LinkShare. So while he makes this free, he might get some revenue from your app purchases in the next 3 days.

OP however is currently temporarily banned for sockpuppeting for another iOS app he posted.

    • Then why don't we remove the link and just link it directly to itunes? Since it's currently free.

      https://itunes.apple.com/app/australian-citizenship-hd/id433…

I thought ozbargain didn't allow affiliate links as the main link unless its in the description.

      • Yes I should have done that. Linked directly to the store now. The main link is to OP's own website (which contains the affiliate link). However he has already declared as a store rep.

    Hi Oz Bargainer,
Due to large response to our weekend giveaway our system had some serious issues and was not able to issue you a user specific link to download the app for free. We are updating the software today to allow this to work. If you didn't received a link please reply to this email.

By giving you our email address, do we get the ad-free version of the app? Otherwise, what is the difference to just downloading from the AppStore when it is ad-supported and free?

      • That's why I'm negging.

  • Free does not mean anything when the app has advertisement and offers ads removal for $0.99.

Be prepared for another federal budget blowout as asylum seekers at the detention camps start asking for ipads to do this test.

    • Yet another reason detention centres for asylum seekers are stupid things.

  • I have been using the app and the content is not 100% correct. The same answer sometimes could be right other times wrong. And I did not know that the Governor-General provides free cars as one of her tasks!
