I worry about these companies that have apps that access your IT devices, and there are next no reviews

    • +6

fair comment, but the app store showing "the developer does not collect any data from this app" though?
And AFAIK Apple Store quite strict in that kind of things too?

Update: I installed the app on my Macbook air and turned on "Little Snitch" app and block all comms, it was able to connect to my Android TV okay… so I guess, it's not too bad? but again, I'm not a cyber sec expert…

By the way, the following is the developer privacy policy page

      • +19

I'm an app developer. Apple does not check what we include in the data collection disclosure. I could claim that no data is collected, yet still record device IDs and more.

        • +2

oh wow! that's good to know; so… how can we as a user check whether the dev is telling the truth OR being dodgy and scanning our internal network with the app?

Keen to know about this further now…

          • +8

@BigLeviathan: There is almost no way for you to tell if the dev tells the truth or not. I can access your device model, some network information, IP address, and general location without you knowing. For sensitive data (contact list, photos, precise location) we must prompt you with a permission pop-up (a lot of people just approve without thinking). Personally, I say no to everything by default and only change if it's essential for the app's functionality. And I only give limited access to my photos now.

            • +2

@Yoo: You probably know this but you can turn off location data for your camera as well so when you do share limited photos they don’t have your location baked in.

In modern life, when its free, just remember that YOU are the commodity!

So looking this company up they are some sort of construction company in Vietnam. Half there websites are dead and their offical email address is Gmail.

Thanks. Installed the app and then read your comment and uninstalled it.

  • Thanks OP, picked it up

    1 review?

    No thanks.

      5 stars though

The less you install this kind of apps the safer you are from the hackers or cyber breaches.

    • yep

3 other apps from the same company have free Lifetime Subscription..

    • Got to have that mobile phone security system tooly thingy?

  • Anyone installed and tried? How is it?

  • doesnt iphones just allow screen casting? android does.

    • Android devices can cast to Android TVs, iPhones can cast (AirPlay) to Apple TVs.

      • ohh ok, i didnt know that.

      • +2

Newer Samsung TVs have AirPlay support now as well.

        • +1

          Sony tvs support AirPlay too

      • TCL tv with GoogleTV support Airplay as well. So there's no point in using these kinds of app nowadays.

        • Still good for Chromecast devices.

          • +1

@bio: ?? My iPhone can cast to my chrome cast just fine..

            • @athk: You can cast if the app supports it, but you can't screen cast (i.e. mirror your screen).

  • Hmmm, what this app could be used for ?
YouTube and YouTube music have the cast option, my android TV has Apple TV app on it. Can I use it to cast camera/photos on android TV ?

EDIT: just read key features and addresses my questions. Seems like a good app but not much use for me

    • this app will be useful for iPhone/Apple user who wanted to cast device to Android TV or similar device…

    All casting apps are rubbish

    • Too true for Apple.

Partner has gotten into mirroring her fav mobile game to the tv (mobile legends) and it just looks horrible (also no audio) so I investigated, the availability on the apple store is such a let down, everything I've seen is just rubbish and most have some kind of subscription. (if anyone can recommend a decent app that is at most a once off purchase for mirroring iphone to chromecast I'd appreciate it).

Meanwhile I was messing with Motorola smart connect and showed her me playing ML with my keyboard+mouse on my computer 'streamed' over wifi from my android phone and I could still use the phone like normal. Incredible (and free).

  • Apple finally catching up

Do you have a rival yoghurt brand that lives rent free in your head all day or is it just phones?

      • He must hate pineapple on pizza too with that logic.

    Better to avoid it.

The developer is listed as a “joint stock” company, but a quick Google search leads to a Facebook page for an industrial construction company in Northern Vietnam.

The developer’s website is tied to a “food” company that also appears on a tax registry as a food and fashion retailer in Southern Vietnam.

Plus, the representative listed isn’t the lead developer or CEO, and the app’s UI looks like it was copied straight from other casting apps on the App Store. With practically no reviews, it just feels sketchy.

Good detective work above. My background is decades in IT with a focus on cybersecurjty… agree this has too many red flags sounds like a freebie to collect punters for some nice personal data stealing. Why would a N Vietnamese company go to the trouble of developing an app and then give it away for free? A "lifetime sub" giveaway is a classic ploy to encourage a quick decision without proper investigation.

Casting from my iphone/pad works well to a several years old LG smartTV without any extra software, and as noted many others will too. Though must admit my HiSense TV can't do it and I haven't found a reputable reasonably priced app that can.
