D-Link DIR-865L Cloud Gigabit Router $129 at DickSmith

2911

User edit 0740 9/5/13: Price adjusted. Now $129 ($29 after cashback).

Edit 1100 10/5/13: Cashback exclusion list now includes DSE. Purchase at your own risk.

Edit: Here is the reply from D-Link via email: "This new Ts and Cs only applicable for any purchases from 10/5 onward".

Edit: Here is a clearer cut-off point, straight from their again-updated terms and conditions: "Limit 1 per person per household only. Excludes Officeworks, Dick Smith, E-Bay & Unauthorised E-Tailers, applicable to all other retailers and channel and cannot coincide with any other offers. DIR-865L purchases from Dick Smith after 10/5/2013 10am AEST will not be eligible for this offer (previous purchases before 10/5/2013 10am AEST will be honoured)."

So that is it. The deal technically expire now since they no longer offer cashback for purchase from dicksmith. HOWEVER, REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN ALWAYS PRICEMATCH AT JBHIFI OR HARVEY NORMAN, IF YOU CAN FIND STOCK AT DICKSMITH

Basically, the same deal at Dicksmith at http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/101972 but D-Link just have their new cashback promotion where they give $100 Cashback to purchases at ANY AUSTRALIAN STORES (except Officeworks).
I have checked dicksmith stock around Melbourne and plenty have stock.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  • Limit 1 per person per household only. Excludes Officeworks, E-Bay & Unauthorised E-Tailers, applicable to all other retailers and channel and cannot coincide with any other offers.

        • Looks like he found one for me today!!

    • You should have run to the store right after placing your order, just like what I did, and grabbed the last one in the store…

  • Was this a price mistake on the part of Dick Smith? I can't find any brand new units below $199 on Staticice and Myshopping. I got one and I am not complaining.

    • +2

No, probably not a pricing error. The box I got had a big "clearance" sticker on it. They had this on sale for $126.75 two weeks ago and it clearly still didn't sell well because there was still plenty of stock, so they reduced the price further to $84.50 last week. And then D-Link decided to offer a $100 cash back, which is probably based on the expectation that most retailers are still selling this for $200+.

  • Grabbed what appeared to be the last one in Traralgon (Vic), spotted one that was waiting for someone to pick up as well, my old Router was rooted… Thanks OP!

Should I send my proof of purchase by registered mail ?
Has anyone else done it that way, or is everyone just sending them by normal post ?
I just don't want it to get 'lost' in the mail.

    • I used Registered post. For $3.95 it's worth it.

      • -1

        where you bought it from?

        • What the router? Eastland.

    • Anything with a tracking number

    • oh yes, and call confirm they received and note down the persons name, date and time of the call.

Remember the Braun deal, I posted two claims (as per the guidelines) in a same envelope and received only one cash back, ppl on the phone were far from not helpful.

  • Secured the last one in Newcastle today. Now to figure out what this thing does!

    • Whereabouts in Newcastle did you get it from?

Called JB at Indooroopilly in Brisbane and they said they were sent a memo which stated the DS price was an error.
Called two Harvey Norman stores who refused to match because there was no stock around.

Anyone know of any left around Brisbane? Cheers.

JB Hi-Fi Malvern just gave me a call in response to an e-mail telling me the same thing. Moorabin Harvey Norman replied telling me they don't stock the model, even though the website shows it as in stock. Looks like retailers are already responding to the deal.

Update: Holmesglen Harvey Norman won't price match as Dick Smiths has no stock.

  • Swan Hill, Victoria - has stock (according to website).

    • +2

I had no idea where this place is and only after placing an order I realised that it's 5 hours away from Melbourne :(

  • Canberra Fyshwick Harvey Norman won't price match as it's under their cost. If anyone tries and manages to get one let me know!

    • try jb in civic canberra i think they had some when i called but didnt bother going there

      • +1

I grabbed the last one at Canberra city store

        • Thanks for the heads up. Guess I'm out of luck.

        • Looks like the bums rush

  • Looks like there's a whole bunch of these up on ebay already…..

I ordered one online at 11h04 for "Click and Collect" at the Sunbury store and not wanting to be left hanging by them calling and advising that they do not have stock, I called the Caroline Springs store as online indicated Low Stock, the guy advised that he had 1 in stock, I asked him to hold it for me as i will collect after work today. At least I knew then that if I could get 1, i would pass the other to any other OZBs. At 12h35, Sunbury store called and advised that they do not have any in stock, hence my order cannot be fulfilled. An hour later, a guy from Caroline Springs called and asked if i definitely wanted the product as he has a few enquirers. I told him to hold onto product and i will collect after work today. I went to store and collected at 16h30 today, guy instore informed me that he had about 35-40 telephone calls and about 20 people walk into store looking for this product. I am glad i got one, Thanks OP.

What a cool dude, props to mr Caroline Springs Dick Smith employee

      • +5

Yeah…as I was walking into the centre, I was honestly thinking that I was going to be walking out the store empty handed….I guess there are decent Dick Smith staff out there !

  • +1

Did anyone do this just for the cashback and want to sell the router? Msg me if you do, and not too far from Fairfield, Parramatta, Liverpool area.

  • So you put the serial number online, what's involved in the next 4 pages to complete.
Got one for mate in Vic and 2 in QLD just picked up….so waiting for receipts.

    • It asks where you purchased it from (store name, suburb) and your personal details (name, address, email, phone). It doesn't ask for banking details so I assume they'll send a check. You print the last page and sign it. It doesn't ask for receipt/invoice numbers.

      • yeh its a check, i called them earlier

Was hoping that it would be a visa or eftpos card

        • Last d-link cashback I got a hand written cheque.

      • +1

Just a note: you do have to provide proof of purchase. Quoting from the 'print and mail this to D-link' page:

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS OFFER:
Please print this form, sign and mail it together with a legible copy of proof of purchase.

        • Correct, but a copy is sufficient. There is no need to supply the original receipt.

        • Good point. I see how my comment might confuse people.

I'm only referring to the online form. I didn't have to give them my receipt number but I did post a copy of my receipt with my claim.

  • Thanks OP, manage to get one at JB-HIFI Chatswood, the dude was negging l wasn't able to provide the original receipt to price match but do it for me at the end. Here's the receipt http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/814/16247/receipt1.jpg

  • +1

So what's the deal with the receipts. If I show JB-HIFI a receipt of another price match then will they offer me the same price without checking if local stores have stock?

  • can someone please be so kind as to post a pic of the box? I was in a dse store (for something else) and saw one single d-link cloud router, I looked at the dse page for this deal and the title was "D-Link AC1750 Dual Band Wireless Cloud Router" so i was searching for d-link items with big 'AC1750' on the boxes and didn't see any. Now that I'm looking at the ozb page again, made me realise that single box may have been it. I thought it was a different model because the price tag was not $84, it was $87~…

can i please see a picture of the box?

      • How come you haven't opened the box yet?

        • +4

          You obviously don't have kids.

      • weird my box from jb hifi looks totally different
        what version is your router

        Mine is
        H/W Ver A1 F/W Ver. 1.01
        UPC code ………… /NAU
        790069XXX266

        Serial number starts with R3QX1XXXXXXXX

      • the one I saw was a white box. For a second I was relieved that the one i saw wasn't the same as yours, but reading easternculture's comment about his box being different made me unhappy again lol.
Saw on dse site they have several d-link routers, but only one in the $80 range. Even though the one I saw was listed as $86/87 and not the official $84, and no 'AC1750' in big bold font (didn't read the small letters), I'm thinking there's a high chance that was the right one. I hate myself :(

    • There was a Cloud router with modem as well that was like $200…the sales guy got confused when he put one away for me.

      • That particular dicksmith only had one d-link router and it wasn't $200.
I was confused with the model/name of this item.. should've referred to ozb page rather than dicksmith official site which doesn't have 'DIR-865L' in the title. I went to dicksmith for a different product, not for the router so technically I didn't waste petrol/time for this. Still… I just wish i hadn't seen this deal, I would've been so much happier lol.

    • Saw this deal this morning at 10
    • Click and Collect successful in a not far away DSE….
    • They called me 10 mins after and said they sold it same time as they want to put in aside for me…
    • Called few other "Low-Stock" stores with no luck
    • Refused Price-Match by 2 JB-Hifi Stores even I print out my DSE Click&Collect Page and Receipt by others
    • Checking out this page and getting mad about people Price-Match with JB-Hifi
    • Called Harvey Norman to Price-Match and ACCEPTED for pickup instore
    • Check my Credit Card and they charged me $296 normal price

      • Check my Credit Card and they charged me $296 normal price
      • Ripped Offff

OMG, you got "Ozbargained" by harvey norman, your should be a "professional" by now

Call them back up and complain to Fair Trading if they refuse to refund difference

    • -1

      well, that escalated quickly!!

    • Did you pin/sign for the $296 amount? If so you have to wear a fair chunk of the blame.

      • over the phone

        • How did you do it over the phone
Did you sign the part of the invoice that you received the goods when u picked it up

        • I didnt pickup the item yet… should be available in 1-2 business day

I can't order Price-Match online because of different price, same as how u do Price Match with Officeworks over the phone but I chose pickup instore option to save delivery fees…

I called the Harvey Norman Customer Service, not the store

"Called Harvey Norman to Price-Match and ACCEPTED for pickup instore"

    • Mate, credit card charge back from your bank. Unauthorized transaction

      • but he signed it , or entered his pin

        Its an authorised transaction

Basically, the bank would email Harvey Norman and they would compare signatures to his card one.

If he used a pin, they could pull video footage that he was the person using the card

Its a gray area, most disputes like this are easily dealt with if you speak to the right manager

        • Sorry thought it was over the phone transaction (just wrote "over the phone tranny" then realised how wrong that sounded). I ALWAYS check the amount before they charge me especially if a got a diabolical good deal like this.

        • Poor guy ozbargained by the ole harvey.

Check your receipt though, if the receipt says $84.50 but they put $296 on the card (they sometimes have to manually type the value into the EFTPOS) then you can go to your credit card company and tell them they ripped you off.

However if the receipt says $296 and you pin/signed the transaction for $296, then……. you got pawned. Nothing you can do about that, other than go back and guilt them into giving you a refund.

        • it's over the phone transaction, "over the phone tranny"

        • it's not that BAD, the worst case is I refused the item when pickup… and REFUND.

But I wish I can still get the item with the price, as the agent approved over the phone and I mentioned all words include "Price-Match", "Dicksmith" and "$84.50"…. They should check their phone record

        • beatlock : yep… it was over the phone transaction

    • $196 after cash back. Still a good price.

      • +2

GOOD price for a SH*T DLINK router. Come on!

    • Something's wrong here…dead give away….

    • lolachu!

    • I did the same thing as you with Harvey Norman but online.
They said they can price match, but have to pay the full price first and then they will refund the difference. Then they will issue an updated invoice.
I made the order yesterday evening, they said I should got the refund last night. But I haven't received any refund email yet.
Hope it will turn up when they process my order.

      • +2

That's not how a pricematch works.

        • +1

thats how harvey norman online do it
I did this with the DLink N750 ADSL2 modem, got it for $30 after $50 cashback

        • HN online can't do anything right. I wouldn't waste my time. I have wasted enough time chasing multiple camera orders, none of which were ever honoured. HN online can get stuffed. How do they get away with such pathetic service?

        • i got my dlink price matched at harvey norman for $120 and then $80 when dick's reduced it further

They are very helpful the online staff

        • Pardon me for asking, how did you do it? Email them via HN "Contact us" webpage? Thanks.

        • Yeah, I suppose it comes down to how efficient your local store is. Normally your order gets directed to your local store. I am never going to order online from my local store again.

        • Pardon me for asking, how did you do it? Email them via HN "Contact us" webpage? Thanks.

          • called the online store on 9394 6257 before buying, got confirmation from the rep (asked for name)
          • bought the item
          • called them back , got them to write in in the notes on file
          • couple of days later, got email confirming refund

The dlink router that i price matched for $80 is now $249.95

Also got them to send me the invoice before the price match just incase dlink reject it due to low price

        • Thank you very much!

        • Yes. I agree with you easternculture.
I got an email saying they had refunded me the difference this afternoon.
Can you please tell me how you got the invoice of the correct amount you actually pay for the cash back purpose?

        • Sorry, another question: For this D-Link DIR-865L deal, do you think DLink will reject our invoice showing $84.50 on it as it is less than $100 and they are giving $100 cashback offer? Just a thought. Thinking about what you said in getting the original full price invoice first as just in case DLink rejects the lower price invoice. Thank you.

        • Can you please tell me how you got the invoice of the correct amount you actually pay for the cash back purpose?

          I simply asked for it

        • easternculture

The dlink router that i price matched for $80 is now $249.95

I'm confused. This isn't the same router from this deal, and there isn't a cashback on that model.

        • was a previous cashback when u buy from Harvey Norman or Joyce Mane

        • Damn… there must be something wrong with mine, still didnt receive any email saying they had refunded me the difference until now… FYI, I placed my order yesterday morning

        • I placed mine yesterday late afternoon.
When they deducted your money from your credit card, did they say they will send you an email for confirmation? I'm thinking maybe they process online orders and phone orders differently.

        • I simply asked for it

Thanks for the reply. I'm a bit confused here. I got an invoice in the email (the full amount). Did you get yours in the email or from the store when you do the pick-up?

        • mine was posted
          all by email

        • -1

Sorry, could I please ask: For this D-Link DIR-865L deal, do you think DLink will reject our invoice showing $84.50 on it? Cos' it is less than $100 and they are giving $100 cashback offer. It makes me wonder if Dlink will rejects our claim. I was thinking about what you said in getting the original full price invoice first as just in case DLink rejects the lower price invoice.

        • No way they can reject it, nothing about the purchase price in T&C. And maybe DSE is the one losing money, not the manufacturer. Anyway similar situation happened before, for instance many people got the epilator from HN. Don't worry, just be patient for 2 months time.

        • That's fantastic! Thank you.

    • I feel sorry for you mate

  • Bought one at Rosebud (Vic) today at 11 am and it was still showing "In Stock" on the website. Out of stock now, so that went quick!

  • +2

Will there be an influx of D-links on ebay soon?

    • There already is, lol. did a quick search…. like 5 listed today…….

  • +1

Just putting it out there… I actually legitimately wanted the router (not really after the $15 profit). Anyone want to get rid of theirs cheap and make an extra little profit?

    • Me also, but I'm not going to give another $100 to these guys who have listed on Ebay and Gumtree. Man. Just really pushing it, some people.

    • Hi wog_ta,

      Where are you based?

I'm in Sydney and if you're interested please PM me for further details.

I bought one today (given it's basically free) moreso as a spare for when my router fails (versus selling it like others), but I may re-consider if someone legitimately needs one.
