I would be weary of buying one of these filters at such a cheap price.
Generally the filter itself is made of plastic if the price is too cheap. Good quality filters are made of glass. The specifications of this filter seem a little sketchy as well.

Anyways if its of plastic; it will reduce the image quality of your photo.
The only benefit of this is that it will be a cheap protector for your front element.

Totally agree. It's not even good for a cheap protector.

It's like buying a brand new $500,000 Ferrari then filling it up with E10 fuel.. you just wouldnt do that.

    • Good advice.
Even with glass, you get so many cheap filters that are junk, like these Tiffen ones.
      http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/72713-REG/Tiffen_52UVP…

They'll just add a lot of ghosting to any bright object in the sky (sun) and in my opinion are only worth it for the protection, as you say.

The multi-coated models are so much better if you want to actually preserve most of the quality of your image, and unforunately they don't come cheap.

  • DONT BUY FROM TMART. I bought a torch on 30/3/2013 and still have not received. i contacted them and was only to be told the delivery could take up to 45 days. wth. i am not the only one that has not received the torch.

    • I received mine in 2-3 weeks. If you dont receive it in 40 days, raise a dispute with paypal and do email after 30 days to tmart as a proof.

    • I bought a torch on 19/4/2013 and got it on 6/5/2013. I thought it was pretty quick.

    • Doesn't Paypal allow disputes only up to 45 days? I'm also still waiting on their K5 media player from 2nd of April, the site said 15 days.

      • i used credit card.

    • ditto…..
T mart claimed it was shipped on the 29/3, but no show as yet….

    • Sorry that the delivery is always out of our control;
the torch will be received one by one.

We promise you of a refund after 45 days, just contact me at that time.

photos are not hazy with digital cameras….uv filters are only good for protection, and there are many discussions as to that even. At this price as well, it will only seriously degrade the quality of your photo, because the glass ( if it is) will be cheap crap.

The images on the details page look like they are using a polarizer filter, more the deeper blue and greens and missing reflection. A UV filter will not do that, so this is also a bit of false advertising.

    • "photos are not hazy with digital cameras…"

It's also true; I forgot to mention that in my point.

Photos came out hazy because of UV light during the film days, but since DSLRs the haze isn't as large as an influence as it once was. It may still be present but definitely not as dominant as it used to be.

  • any deal on 52mm filter?

Please - don't bother with filters of this quality. They are truly not worth it!

  • Cheap UV filters, I doubt it does anything apart from degrade image quality.
Furthermore, 1month to deliver from HK to AU? That's ridiculous.

  • Also negging this due to it being a useless product. If you own a lens that allows for a filter to be screwed on, that means your lens/camera is good enough to have your images degraded by this POS filter. Avoid.

  • UV Filters are only good for protection really. Most lenses are UV coated and DSLR sensors are quite unresponsive at UV wavelengths anyway.

If you let kids near your camera or you're pretty clumsy and keep touching the end of your lens a UV filter might be useful, but not for pros.
