  • Look, Aussie, we've got a new carrier: AT&T , how do they compared to telstra?

    • They're probably a Kogan reseller :-)

  • Isn't this really hard to unlock ?

    • Just a simple jailbreak, btw I never thought these still exsisted new In a box

      • ive seen these at target locked to telstra.. cannot believe they still had stock.

      • Target Northland has them for $429 (alongside the 4 - same price)

  • Unless you live in the US, I would assume this would be about as useful as a bricked phone. Will be interested to see feedback on whether these can be unlocked.

The 3GS is a pretty old phone now, with mine although it still worked perfectly hardware wise, I ended up upgrading as it became annoying how many new apps just won't work on the iOS on the 3G/S anymore.

  • Jailbreak?

Cool Price, but too many unknowns like will the carrier work here, and that it really is old tech these days, better off paying a bit more for a dual core Android (or an Ipod Touch 4 on a good sale day) than the 3S…IMHO.

Just sold my old 4 year old 3GS for $120 the other week…

  • Pretty sure the US 3GS had a totally different band than Australian phones. A friend from US had a lot of problems trying to use his phone whilst in AU.

  • The 3GS has not aged well. Even at this price, I think you'd be better with a budget Android handset than this.

use it as a bulkier heavier ipod touch?

I don't think this is good value. The iPhone 3GS is ancient (approaching four years!) and this is a locked phone which will need a software unlock. It will need to be running the correct baseband so that ultrasn0w can unlock it. If its running a new baseband and its a new bootrom iPhone 3GS, you're not going to be able to unlock it.

Even if you get it working, iPhone 3GS only fully supports Telstra. You will not have regional 3G reception on Optus or Vodafone as the 3GS does NOT support UMTS 900 MHz.

  • old phone locked to US carrier
    no deal

Is it uncool among Apple people to have an old model phone?

    • I think it's quite the opposite, because you have a uniquely thicky 8gb iPod touch that no one have ever had

  • Yeah, it is uncool to have an old phone.

You probably won't get iOS 7 and there are countless other limitations on the hardware.

I have an 3GS sitting in a cupboard, somewhere, I suspect anyone who wants one can probably find a friend who has one spare too…

  • Ordered a Blackberry phone which was described as brand new.But shocked when recieved the phone It was completely faulty fully scratched. When i emailed them about this did not got any reply.

This is probably just as good for half the price. lol

Edit: voted negative, locked to US carrier and poor specs for price.

  • Product is locked to US carrier, no warranty if you crack it, also an ancient phone with hopeless specs inc radio frequency. Not even worth half this
