    ~ $165 Shipped to AUS
Good price if you need one as its selling @ officeworks for $199
If not id sugest you wait for another price drop

  • +1

Pay $165 with no warranty, I rather pay an extra $34 more for 3 years local warranty.

    • their have been instances that some OW stores have price matched Amazon, IIRC someone mentioned they price matched a WD media player last year and posted a reciept as proof, so you can try your luck

      • +3

That would be a case of the store attendant stuffing up and not knowing the OW policy as Amazon is a foreign overseas retailer having no presence in Australia. It wouldn't be store policy to price match overseas retailers.

        • +1

I don't understand as to why people keep saying this, but I doubt that you can back up your words with direct reference to OW pricematch policy

        • +1

Here's OW price guarantee policy. They say they'll match and beat their competitor by 5% on an identical stocked item and that the competitors terms and conditions have to be identical . A foreign overseas retailer such as Amazon would not be their competitor since they're not even located in Australia and wouldn't have identical terms and conditions nor identical stocked items to begin with since it's US or UK stock.

Any one saying that OW will price match Amazon are just kidding themselves. Except if the salesperson stuffed up not really knowing the retailers own price guarantee policy.

          http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/landing/Lowest-price-gu…

        • I've been told this when I tried to price match a printer from Amazon before.

I've also been told by OW that the shop needs to have a store-front in order for OW to price-match them.

It's odd that they don't provide a terms and conditions for their policy online, only this page: http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/landing/Lowest-price-gu…

Makes it uncertain and inconsistent for consumers and store staff alike.

EDIT: Just saw the post above. This thread probably explains it better: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/84452

        • +2

Correction: Officeworks dont require the competitor to have a shop front. Online companies like Expansys will be matched…only the competitor has to have the item in stock, and it has to be delivered into Australia, and the total cost including delivery will be matched.

I have done this several times myself.

          refer extract below:
          What about online stores?
Identical products are price-matched against online stores but as with any other kind of store, the item must be currently in stock. When price-matching online stores we also take into account the added cost of delivery. If the identical product can be purchased and delivered via an online store for a total price lower than the one we are offering, we will beat that total price by 5%.

      • Have you tried to call the OW and price match Amazon's offer?

        • Some succeeded, some did not. It all comes to the discretion if staff, whether they were having a good day or not. I suggest you try different stores, different staff if one fails.

I reached out to Seagate and they told me they will provide warranty, even if I purchase overseas. In Australia, the warranty return is to a depo, no the retailer you purchased it from. Well that's what I read on their site anyhow.

Under Australian law a consumer may return faulty goods to the retailer.

        • +4

Whilst that may be correct, that's not the point here. The point is the customer has the option to return directly to the manufacturer and therefore be able to get warranty for the OS product.

        • +2

Stupid comment, amazon is not an AU retailer therefore AU consumer laws do not apply.

        • AU consumer laws always apply, regardless whether the seller is AU or not.

        • How will AU laws be enforced on an overseas seller?

      • +1

Either way, warranty return will cause financial and time loss. (To post it)

Alterantively you can drop by the local shop on the way home from work and return the hard drive with little effort.

        • +4

Seagates RMA address is here in Sydney (to the UPS depot in Mascot funnily enough)

        • +1

It'll cause some financial loss (cost of postage to NSW), but I think you'll be saving time.

If you send it back to your local computer shop, it'll sit there till they process it and send it off to Seagate.

If you mail it to Seagate, it goes straight to them. Cuts out the middleman.

        • Some stores will just replace the unit- onsite.

        • How is that relevent copie?

          Postage costs to Sydney
          Time spent in Post office
Having to get to the post office while its open
Having to package your hard drive

Buying from elsewhere is a lot easier, thats my point, I'm not saying you shouldn't buy what has been posted.

        • Its an external hdd, so you shove it back into the box it came in and post it off that way, if it was good enough to survive a trip across the ocean in a container, it will survive the post

You can use click n send, so you spend 2min doing the paperwork online then throw it into the nearest red box.

You get a new one back in <2 weeks.

          Simple.

        • And cost?

        • And cost?

depending on what state you are in
As per AustPost website factoring in Signature on Delivery Cost of $3 so it doesnt get misplaced in transit (Excludes Insurance) and weigth of parcel 1 - 2 kg

          NSW ~$12
          VIC ~$16
          WA ~20
          TAS ~19

        • Which is a lot…

        • especially if you dont insure it and it gets lost in post

        • For me it's a 45min round trip to say office works and back to get it replaced. My time is worth more then 12 bucks.

Same with ordering online with an Aus company then having to deal with a return.

    • Wait, you get 3 years local warranty with Officeworks?

  • Looks like price has dropped to $139? Its now $160 shipped to Australia…

    • Yes the price has now suddenly dropped to $139.99 USD. Pity those who just ordered it for $149.99 USD.

      • Contact customer service and they will refund the difference.

        • -6

never, i tried before. no one cares

        • -1

Plenty of people including myself have, so obviously its a PEBKAC issue.

        • Try and try again until you get someone one that does it. Plenty of people here have been successful.

        • +2

I ordered 4 off of these when these were posted here in March and ordered at 159.99 each.

Just asked amazon to price match. They said its too long ago to match all 4 ($80) but as a one-off will give me $20 back!

          Such good service.

Tip: use the live chat and be polite. I asked if as a gesture of goodwill they would match their current price and apply a refund. I've never failed to get something back so far.

Incidentally shipping for me for 4 was also $32.

        • How long will it takes to ship to Sydney?

What kind of mail service they use?

Is it register mail, express mail, or express courier?

I never order from Amazon.com before.

        • I ordered 4 off of these

Man you have a lot of "stuff" to store ??? All HD ? ;-)

        • They use either I parcel for standard or DHL, takes anywhere from 2-14 days, I parcel comes via USPS/ Auspost And DHL uses Auspost for some of its deliveries.

        • not sure who -NEG you for commenting, but I + you

        • -1

          Thankyou fine sir.

I have a certain member who feels its his moral obligation to neg everything i do, both here and on other forums.

        • it's fine, I got a few bargain here and people -NEG me because they didn't get one….

          I'd say "sour grapes"!

      • You can just do the chat thing with Amazon and they'll refund the difference. Shipping charge is now $18…was shipping cheaper before? Because it was $165 shipped….now its $160 shipped? did they increase the shipping by $5?

        • Looks like it, four drives cost me $32us in March, now its $52.

          Hope its not a trend.

      • Generally, Amazon will refund you the difference on an item if the price decreases within 24 hours from the time that you order it. I've asked them to do it before and they didn't give me any hassle. Just like gadgetguy said, use the chat function - it's a lot easier than emailing them.

        • They actually quoted "within 7 days" of the order to me yesterday but I think they have a fair degree of discretion.

  • +4

Why is shipping cost never included in Amazon deals?
You have to go all the way past the credit card entry stage to see it.
    $18.36 FYI.

    • -2

when is shipping ever included in a deal posted by an online retailer? unless of course it's free..

    • +1

You can see shipping estimates from your cart. Login, add item to cart, view cart, estimate shipping.

  • This is a good price, thanks.

  • +1

how easily can you open these?

  • did anyone contact OW?

    • OW won't price match any oversea stores unless you know the salesperson in that particular store.

      • as i stated, some will and others wont
Will depend on store manager and their cost price

Seriously, all this debating about return policies? I haven't returned a hard disk in the last 5 years. You guys must be thrashing 'em (or dropping them) to kill them over so quickly. Safest bet is to upgrade every 2-3 years anyway. Much cheaper than mucking around with RAID. Just do a backup copy of the important stuff once a month.

I understand sometimes there's a bad batch etc. but it's up to you.
I'm happy to pay for NSW postage to save $34 in the unlikely event the hard disk dies.

The biggest hit is always losing the data.

    • You haven't, but you are not everyone.

Many of my friends have had their hard drives die. Coincidentally I'm fixing a friend's PC right now whose hard drive died. In March I saw two drives die, and last year I saw several. I have a small collection of dead hard drives here at home.

The dead drives I've seen usually die in their 2nd-3rd year. Some of the replacements that come back have also died. The pc I'm fixing now has had its drive replaced under warranty before.

No brand is safe. I've seen WD, Seagate, Hitachi, and Samsung die.

  • I have to say this is a great deal and their warranty process is excellent. they track your warranty via the serial number so no need to keep your receipt. RMA is done online and all you have to do is ship to them and they will ship a new one back.

  • Cheers! Bought two for my server, will rip them open and stick them inside. :)

  • You may find these dont have the same interchangeable adapters as the other Seagate HDD's. I bought 2 of these from Amazon a month ago and they had solid one piece US standard adapters with no attachments or different ones for Aus. Luckily I had a spare and between my other hard drives, I can make do without having all 4 on at once.
