20% off Qantas Frequent Flyer Points When Booking Classic Award Flights @Qantas.com.au

90

Booked my flight from Sydney to Singapore on www.qantas.com.au using points, normally cost 30000 points, now 24000 (20% off), works on other destinations as well IIRC. You still need to pay the tax and charges which you need to pay regardless,
$256 in the case of Syd to Singapore.

Note: I only tried the Classic Award flights booking only, not the Any Seat award.

Ends tomorrow

I forgot to mention that I booked my flight for the peak Dec Xmas period, 15-31 DEC which cost you around $950ish if you book now.

So this is a saving of approx $700 when I spent my 24000 points.

  • good deal too bad the taxes are humongous on qantas

i agree with this… the fuel surcharges and taxes are bullshit. i recently redeemed on way business class fare with AA (using qantas points) and it was 36,000 all inclusive.. it's a 5 hour flight too… if that were an australian flight it would of been roughly plus $500 in fuel/taxes - it's horse shit. we have dollar pricing that includes taxes/GST/fuel charges but when paying with points this doesn't apply???

it's no wonder folks are purchasing fares offshore via .ie / .br websites, the price gauging is becoming ridiculous.

      • That's interesting! How do you book an AA fare with Qantas points - do you have to ring Qantas? I presume AA wont take bookings using the Qantas points directly?

  • Full details can be found at http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/memberSpecials/qantas-cl… - bookings need to be made by tomorrow (3rd May).

Yeah that fuel surcharge stuff is b******t. It means that they can cut the airfares and still get their money, even on Rewards bookings. A real rip-off.

  • Good if you've got a bunch of points you were going to redeem anyway. Not so good once you take into account the stupid taxes/surcharges as pointed out.

Can you book good value (i.e. non ridiculous surcharge) partner redemptions thru this? (E.g. with Cathay Pacific or American Airlines)

    • You can redeem those points for giftcards though which are as good as cash

      • +1

gift cards are poorer value than flight redemptions

    • All similar… Cathay Pacific or American Airlines takes Taxes as-well… Using points to redeem flight is no longer bargain, as "Flight Fare" is getting cheaper and cheaper but "Taxes/Surcharges" are higher and higher. I always booked my flight ticket in Promo Price which "Taxes/Surcharges" are more expensive then the physical "Flight Fare"

    • Humongous surcharge is only apply if you fly from australian airports.
If you fly from 3rd world country airports, you'll pay only $100ish.
That's the cost you pay to make your country safe and secure or making the macquarie airport more profitable.

  • Tried it out on a few routes and showed the normal amount for me.

    • What routes are you trying? Read the T&C, Depart on selected dates on flights between Australia and Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Jakarta, Manila, Noumea and New Zealand.

  • Sometimes using point+pay works out cheaper than classic award because of Taxes/Surcharges, especially when they have a sale on.

  • Already passed this message for our office mate. thanks.
