  • If only i could afford qantas business class..

    • … and if you can afford for a business class ticket, you're not an ozbargainer ;)

Business or better is the only way to fly. As I travel business class internationally with work a few times a year I can not imagine going back to pleb class even when traveling on my own coin. A bargain shouldn't be perceived just by it's dollar value. The ability to arrive at a destination and not actually feel totally wrecked should not be under estimated. To me this deal is A1 and worth a + vote.

Next time you fly ask the hostess if you can come up and visit me at the pointy end of the plane. I'll be the one with the fully lie flat bed, french champagne and more legroom than I care to think about.

        • "…french champagne…"
I assumed Champagne IS French, but then again I'm only cattle class when it comes to flying…

@eebs: Yeah and your port is only from Porto, your Parmesan is only from Reggio and your Roquefort only comes from caves in France. Just stick to drinking your "Aussie" VB down the smelly end of the plane and you'll be in Bali in no time.

            • @elguapo: Yes it true. Champagne is only from France. You cannot get Champagne anywhere except France.
Same with Parmesan cheese in the EU etc..

See a job in which you travel in certainly has its plusses.

I however am not going to fork out $17 grand for a ticket to Los Angeles (regardless of the two for one offer).

The way i see it, would you either sit up front in this so called luxury (which costs more than a midsize car) or would you rather sit in 'pleb class' and 'get paid' $15,000 to sit in the seat for the 17 hours?

          I know what i'll do.

          • @SimBer: HAHHAHA yeah, i dont know of many companies which actually provide Business and higher class travel for its employees anymore.

LOL. elguapo - your post reminds me of a certain beer ad…

          Shhhhhh…get real.

I've travelled business class a few times with work (and have been upgraded to first once, from London to Sydney) and I honestly can't see the extra amenities being at all worth it if you're paying out of your own pocket. You'd have to add another 0 (or two) to my net worth for me to consider it; I even know one seriously rich person (worth about $150 million) who still flies economy.

If you're young or reasonably fit, you shouldn't feel "totally wrecked" after a 20+ hour flight. I know when I'm flying long haul I sleep through 70% of it.

$17k is a lot of money which can surely be put to far better uses than a few hours of slightly improved comfort.

Business class is great. I got to ride in one awhile back. However with the current day economy, i doubt companies have enough money to pay for employees to take business class for work related travel.

If i was given the choice by my work:
    1. Get Business Class flight
    2. Get Economy Class flight and employee gets to keep the cost differences for personal use.

I would defiantly choose 2nd choice. haha. I rather feel shit for one day, than to spend a few days/weeks to make that money. XD

    • HAHHAHA yeah, i dont know of many companies which actually provide Business and higher class travel for its employees anymore.

      • My company even discouraged travel unless it necessary - remote tele conference is now encourage (Skype is finally got the company approval for long distance calls).

Honestly, for traveling with my money, I rather spend extra for the accommodation rather airline seat. Put up few hours, said from Perth to Singapore, in cattle class is nothing. The extra $3K for the ticket can be use to pampering at a 5-star hotel is better deal.

  • Our travel policy is business for all flights over 3 hours :D

    • are you able to voluntarily elect economy and collect the price difference as cash?

I'm not sure Qantas can call this deal is "real deal". I mean…come on…Canberra - Hong Kong $7,793 for 2 people? I rather fly economy class airbus 380 with Singapore Airlines and pocket around 3-4K the difference for shopping!!

The difference between Business and economy are:
    - wider seat
    - wider range of alcohol drinks
    - wider range of in flight menus
    - better screen for in flight entertainment

Perhaps additional few other little things. Personally I won't fork extra few K's to enjoy those things above.

My work is really strict with travel allowance now. No business class allowed. Virgin Economy class for domestic (except few destinations) and Qantas Economy Class for international.

So where do you work elquapo?? Perhaps I can apply LOL…
