  • I missed this machine at eSold.com when they sold it for $29 two weeks ago. I hope they repeat it again.

  • Picked one up from Good Guys Moorabbin - they got quite a few there.

Got X2 packets of pods and the machine for $60 can't complain with that.

    • Hows the quality of coffee?

  • Quality of coffee is good but the quality of the machine is not that great. I had problems with mine and got it replaced (customer service is pretty decent) and then the next one had problems again.

    • I got one of these from HN for that price over xmas for the old lady. It was way too hard for me (who doesn't drink coffee) to use, so the old lady had no chance.

The Aldi Expressi is much easier to use, coffee I'm told is reliable (I only drink the Chais and Chocolates) and is a heap easier to use, for the simple reason that it doesn't have a steamer. What made it difficult to use the Map was that after running the steamer the water then runs too hot for the coffee, so if you froth some milk you end up needing to wait a while before you can make another coffee (in fact the machine doesn't let you proceed as the light isn't steady). As such if you get the order of things wrong, you're screwed (disclaimer: this was 5 months ago so my recollection is faded).

I know it's not that hard, and if I was buying it for myself I guess I'd have eventually worked things out if I was a coffee drinker, just be warned I guess. Maybe ok if you are making singles you'd never notice.

      • You can cool it down quickly by running the steam wand. If you first steam the milk and then you press the coffee button you want, that button and the steam light will flash until it is cool enough. Just open the steam until the flashing stops and you can then make coffee.

    • I've been pretty happy with mine - obviously for the price you're not getting top quality, but mine has not broken.

What is great is the customer service. I dismantled the steam wand for cleaning and ended up losing a plastic cylinder bit. I called up Map figuring I'd pay through the nose for a replacement, but instead they sent me two full steam wand assemblies for free.

I also like the style of the pod system on this model - the pod is not internal - its more like putting coffee in a removable group head and you have no worries about internal moving parts. I previously had the aldi machine but I much prefer this one (particularly for the steam wand).
