Not bad considering it cost me $15 at the post office last time I needed them.

Just be sure to check the photo requirements for whatever you wish to use them for. Here are the Australian Passport Guidelines - https://www.passports.gov.au/Web/Requirements/PhotographGuid…

This a new service hence the international-beta free discount code.

Not bad, but in true ozbargainer style I take the photo at home in front of a white wall, photoshop it to make sure it's the right size etc, and then print it out at a photo kiosk for 10c. Can usually fit 6 on a standard photo. Works like a charm!

    • +1

good idea, still, I suppose this would come in handy for those who can't be bothered going to the kiosk

    • +1

I found this site to be best for free id card photos http://www.idphoto4you.com

you still need to spend 10c to get it printed.

    • That's exactly what I do. I use my iPhone 4 to take photos and photoshop does the rest.
      6 photos on 4x6
19c @ tomsaade camera house in 5 mins and I prefer them over kmart, big W or officework because CameraHouse print is really great when I compared the quality print.

Good idea, and then you don't risk having your photo and details used for a mature dating flash banner

    • You have to be a little careful with this one.

I have done this in the past and had wasted time at an appointment when the diameter of the face in the photo does not strictly match the template size they recommend. The postie lady sent be back to take a pic from their kiosk, because I couldn't be bothered coming back. Also you need signatures of the guarantor behind the pic so last minute changes are not so easy.

print it out at a photo kiosk for 10c. Can usually fit 6 on a standard photo. Works like a charm!

In short, it is good advice and can be done but zoom in to the level that only your face is seen, no shoulders, no excess white space.

    • I used http://www.123passportphoto.com/ It allows me to download a 4R sheet with multiple passport photos for printing and a large single passport photo for online submission.

it cost me $15 at the post office last time I needed them.

I do them for free at home on my ink jet and have never had a problem…

    • +5

Cost of paper, ink, and electricity required would be higher than the cost of electricity used to order them online.
edit: Don't forget about paper jams which will raise the cost further.

      • Dont forget printer depreciation and so on and so forth.

      • Cost of paper

yeah, it costs me around 50c to get 4 passport pics on a 4x6

        • +3

          I thought a printer costs $9

        • I got my printer free.

scare the identify thief opportunity here… your name, address and what you looks like will be stored in this international database. hum…..

but thanks for sharing the freebie… just a word of caution for those who may b interested in getting this offer.

out of curiousity, what could they do with just a picture a name and an address?

      • +15

just order a photo of yourself and have it sent to your grandma's house under her dog's name ;)

      • +3

It's a good first step to stealing your identity, why make it easy for them and give them a bonus picture they can create a more convincing fake identity with?

Like anyone else with these details, they can easily use your name/address/email to look up other details - especially if you are an over-sharer on Facebook or accept friend requests from people you haven't met in real life.

It amazes me what comes up when I Google my (unusual) name…past uni results, directory listings for various places I've live (the UK is really bad for this), company employment listings for places I've worked…nothing I have specifically given my consent to being published :/

Am not one to be overly paranoid about my identity on the net - but as you asked…there is a lot someone could do with a picture, name and address. I have a simple email address (NEVER AGAIN) which a lot of dumb people with similar names often quote as being their own…one woman in South Africa recently used it when applying for life insurance. I got her policy emailed to me and within 2 minutes had her house up on Google maps, and was tempted to send her a picture of it along with all of her phone numbers, pictures of her and her children (off FB), tax file numbers etc that I had gathered with very little effort…funnily enough the only thing I didn't have was her email address (although I could have sent her a message on FB)…and I didn't want to freak her out so I just left it.

        • My name comes up with a Facebook group someone made of me exclaiming how much they love me…not even joking.

        • -3

Unfortunately, there is a lot more things someone can do without your picture(look at your story with the email) so i wouldn't worry much about this photo deal as we give out more personal information on a daily basis(etc throwing bills/documents in the bin without shredding them first, not taking the receipt from the ATM, handing out the coles/wollies fuel discount coupon attached to our shopping list, paying for pizza delivery over the phone shouting at them our credit card number, sending our pc for repairs with the HDD full of personal info and thousands of photos, and the list goes on)

    • You use your real name?

  • +1

last time(2 months ago) i paid $8 at the post office, the staff took me out of the shop, used the toilet corridor's white wall as a background, a cheap p&s camera and a cheap printer.
OP, is this is a freebie you should tick it as "Freebie" ;)

    • Looks like I got stung then. Updated to 'freebie' thanks

      • +1

Photos and condoms: you're having a blinder!

Australia Post are extremely expensive when it comes to a passport photo! If you don't want this offer, try kmart - it only costs ~$5.

    • If only I knew 3 months ago. I prefer if I do them at a shop as passports take long enough to process and it would be terrible if they didn't do it because of a slight error with the photo.

      • would be terrible if they didn't do it because of a slight error with the photo.

you'll know when you apply for the passport if the photos are OK or not…

  • Nice post OP. However I want to get some passport photos done for my new passport, any recommendations for the cheapest option apart from DIY? Thanks..

    • Like Antler mentioned above, maybe try Kmart @ $5

    • take it yourself and crop it yourself, but take them to kmart or wherever to get them printed.

  • +4

Cool, thanks. I'm a costco member, so will try them first, then Kmart.

Don't know why but whenever I step into a Kmart, I just feel very depressed.

    http://www.epassportphoto.com/

If you don't mind the 10c at BigW etc to print your own, then this is a great option for DIY. It ensures you get the size of the head correct for the applicable size requirements

    • I use this and it is really easy - especially with Officeworks stores everywhere.

  • It's worth the $15 or so at the post office as you don't have to stuff around, hand the paper work in at the same time as the photo's taken and your done.

  • +2

    Too dangerous.

A drivers license basically has address, a passport and name. That's quite a few identity points right there, and they would pickup your date of birth by browsing through facebook and looking at when everyone starts to say happy birthday on your facebook account. This is why they tell you not to put a passport looking photo on facebook, i.e. take it from the side or have something in the background.

My facebook account has me standing in a forest. I'm not a green hippie or backpacker. It's there for a reason.

  • I spent only $0.15 for 8 passport photos printed in a 4x6 photo in BigW

  • Has anyone actually tried this yet?
The code only gave like 3 pounds off…

    Anyone else actually try?
After putting in my photo, I clicked "6 passport photos" which was meant to be 5.95pounds, typed in the code, and discounted to approx 2pounds.

    • same here…

    • It was free yesterday.

  • -1

    This is not free

  • Damn I just got some from the PO. Still a good deal +1

  • I got mine in the mail yesterday and they are massive. Double the size of the required passport size here in Australia. I should've double checked the difference between Germany requirements and ours.
My invoice says 8 application photos GBP 7.95 minus the promo code of GBP 2.22 leaving the total as GBP 5.73
I didn't enter any sort of card details after I put in the code so I'm not quite sure how that works out. But regardless, a freebie! But cannot use for passport:(
