Is this the crystal 2 or the original?

    • +1

      crystal 2 - quad core
but it is one of the slowest quads on the market, a lot of duals are faster, and the gpu is slower than a lot of those in single core units
can buy it for $98 at merimobiles.com if you are willing to wait a few weeks - they pay return ship for warranty, but there are much better deals around, and much better models of ainol even.

the price is not even remotely a bargain

      • What's a better deal than this? Can you recommend a better model?

        • I have had my eye on the hyundai t7 in the 7 inchers - it uses the same cpu as the new samsung 10" tablet, not that i have hyper researched. The best places i have found for info on chinadroids is slatedroid and tabletrepublic. In the 10" we are VERY pleased with our Ramos W30 units which use the same CPU as the Hyundai and samsung mentioned too, Samsung Exynos 4412. I love my old Ainol Aurora - lovely screen but it is very out of date.
Ainol, Cube, Hyundai, Lenovo, Onda, Ramos, smartQ, Teclast and Zenithink all tend to make decent units, just the CPU in the crystal and esp its graphics are quite weak.
          Tablets Based on Samsung Exynos, Allwinner A31, Rockchip 3188 and nVidia Tegra 3 are all going to perform well, find one of those in your price bracket in a brand above with the features;
(3G internal or does it support a stick, GPS, Bluetooth, FullHD, Retina, Dual Cameras or do you want front for skype or back to take photos, Huge battery vs Light weight, Network Speed (g or n), Google play installed from factory, etc)
you want and then just have a look on the above sites to see how good their software is.
There is no one right tablet - that is why so many brands can be a success.

I hope some of that is a help :)

anyone got one and like to share?

I am considering some mile high ainol.. for watching movies when flying. I always see them for sale but I never see people sharing their first ainol experience on here. Does anybody care to share their thoughts on this?

    • +1

I have a Ainol Novo Hero 10, and its good for Basic usage.

      Pros:
      1. Good for watching movies
      2. Good for emails
      3. Good for quick video chats (bad quality, but bearable)
      4. 50-50 web browsing (not the fastest CPU)
      5. Good Battery Life, 6+ for videos or 2 days with moderate usage

      Cons:
      1. Auto-rotate misbehaves (forgets to flip screens, until reboot or wake from deep sleep)
      2. Scrolling on Web Browsers is not always perfect
      3. Pinch to Zoom misbehaves (too much or too little)
      4. Needs a reboot weekly (feels sluggish after 7 days of usage)

If you can overlook the Cons over Pros, go for it (Thats what I did, I'm so so happy with what I've got for $138)

I have the old aurora - the first IPS ainol Novo7. Screen is gorgeous, works well. Got a 'clean rom' which reports itself to play as a samsung galaxy and it had treated me really well. Has taken a fair amount of abuse and sailed through. Works as well as any single core. nice and stable. No complaints pf significance

    Why nobody negged yet?

Edit: Not Sure why I got negged as someone has pointed out that this is more expensive that the earlier deal, who negged me must be an idiot.

I do not believe this is a good deal, compared with the Acer 7" at Bing Lee ($99). Firstly, the Ainol is a grey market import, so there cannot possibly be a local manufacturer warranty. The shipping charge is high appearing to be around 22% of the total cost, and there is no GST included in the Ainol price either (in case you can claim).

If you want quality and peace-of-mind, go for the Acer. But spec wise (if that is all that matters to you) the Ainol has potentially a slight edge (more RAM plus quad core design).

I am an ainol virgin as well, would appreciate some advice from other's have gone there with a 10" and opinions? 7" is just a little small for me.

    • -1

I think I will start with 7" and work my way up. Especially when mile high ainol involves confined spaces/pressurised love cabins.

    • -5

      Enjoy life. Enjoy ainol

  • I have an Ainol Nova 7 Fire. WiFi didnt work properly when I got it untill I flashed to their latest upgrade, the unit was pre Rooted when I got it, and the rear camera which is supposed to be 5 mega pixel is either faulty or just really really terrible. When I enquired about warranty over it I was basically told it would probably go missing in the post and I shouldnt risk it….ie threatened. Got it from Buyincoins. That aside it is a prety cool tablet. I cant however get apptosd to find the 32gb sdcard I put in it. If anyone knows how to get that to work I wouldnt mind some help.
