    • That deal was posted almost 4 weeks back at a higher price.

  • So you just plug this into your 240v 50 hz powerpoint using the 3 point plug supplied?

    • +1

It should be a 2 point plug US version. Twist with pliers or use one of those cheap AUS adapters.

      • +1

Twisting the pins works, but runs the risk of breaking something internally on cheaper units (which could be bad, if you short 240v to something). Splash out a dollar on one of these.

        • not too sure about the one selling on eBay
but I have dozen of these and some are really bad quality(they are from eBay too)

I remember reading some news/warning notice somewhere about these adapter,
as they did not pass Australian standard and might cause fire danger!!

        • people just give -(NEGATIVE) for no reason yeah?
better not giving any advise next time!
let the "negativer" rotten & burn down house!

    • yes, would love to hear from someone who has actually bought one of these and can vouch for allowable input volts/Hz

      • Seems strange to me. I've been avoiding US stuff for decades because of electrical incompatibility and now apparently it's no longer a problem.

      • Found this in answers on Amazon, effgee:

        "The wall-wart power supply can accept 100VAC~240VAC @ 50Hz~60Hz, =<0.5A.
It supplies 12VDC 05.A, with a male coaxial plug, center positive."

That was in reply to a question about this hard drive. Don't know what the "wall- mart" bit is about.

        • fwiw the 2tb seagates come with a power brick with interchangeable power prongs for each different country.

      • I have a drive arriving from Amazon today. Voltage is almost never a problem with computer peripherals any more, thanks to cheap universal-voltage switching power supplies.

@shaybisc: "wall-wart" is what Americans call an ordinary power adapter that plugs into the wall.

  • I get $125.99 on that link.

    • Sold out

      • Still getting $99 here?

        • its been in and out of stock since yesterday
          They are price matching tigerdirect

        • and Staples.com…

        • out of stock again

This is the irony.. Australian retail is struggling but still we can order online from a country thousands of miles away and get them shipped here for much cheaper than we can buy them from local retailers or even local online stores.
No matter what the price difference is all the hard drives are made in China which is much closer to us than US.

while i agree, and im not trying to back up local shops one bit………. it is the cost of living/business here that kills it. things like rents and cost of things like power here are staggering. its not our fault we buy from OS its the shit governments for the last 20 odd years screwing the country over……

  • While I'm tempted to get this, the US plug might kill it for me.

    • I bought a video camcorder from B&H Photo from US 2 years ago and just put an adaptor for the charger, no problem.

  • Got it for $112 shipped.

Can this drive be easily repurposed for use in a NAS?

Don't worry about the adaptor. I have a whole bunch of stuff using these adapters on gear from the USA. Have about 6 or so lamps, my ipad, touch, HHD's etc on these adapters.
