This deal seems pretty good, the laptop is touch enabled.
a few weeks ago I bought F202E from Bing Lee - Ozbargain Link
I think these 2 computers are probably very similar.

Dick Smith is selling it for $499 at the moment, same as Harvey Norman.

  • so how good is a ULV celeron? i'd be happy if it's comparable to a pentium B960 but i'm worried the performance will be more like one of those atom N570s

    • They're not bad for basic usage if you replace the HDD with an SSD, apparently.

  • +1

According to CPU benchmarks the Atom 550@2 GHz scores 381 compared to the ulv 847 which scores 1,041.

  • is this a good pc to buy for intern browsing, everything related to microsoft office and some picture editing?

    • +1

good for browsing and MS office stuff, probably not so good for photo editing cause of the ram side

      • do you think it's worth to buy or should i wait for a better bargain?

        • +1

Depending on what you are using it for really. I bought one just for uni (take notes and basic programming), because it's light and thin, also much cheaper than ultrabooks, and with touch screen that matches well with windows 8.

      • A 20 megapixel image with 3 colours should take roughly 60MB of ram uncompressed. This has over 2000MB of memory. We used to do professional photo editing on a 64MB PowerPC; Editing photos on this should be fine. What wouldn't be fine is running lots of applications at the same time or having dozens of tabs open in your browser. This also really isn't a gaming machine.

Funnily enough photo editing may now be easier for modern CPUs than word processing since modern image editors are starting to offload all the hard work to the GPU. For example the next version of the GIMP, a Free image editor, will offload work to the GPU.

Saw this for $379 at Costco [Melb] last weekend Exact same config: Celeron, 2GB, 320GB, Win8, touchscreen. A substantially better notebook than say the netbooks from a year ago for pretty much the same price.

  • It should be alright for basic web browsing, but I'm not sure you can install more ram so editing may be pretty slow.

And the integrated GPU in the 847 is HD-2000 based, not 4000.

  • +1

    Damn,its a celery.

  • 2GB ram really? I thought 4GB was minimum these days, EDIT… yeah it's 2000 not 4000.

  • It looks like you should be able to upgrade the ram.
