Cirque Du Soleil, Melbourne. $65 Tickets. Save up to $49

70

OVO by Cirque du Soleil leaves Melbourne after the Easter long weekend. Come and watch a cast of 54, from 16 countries, perform jaw-dropping acrobatic acts under the blue-and-yellow Big Top. This is a spectacular production for the whole family.

OVO, meaning egg in Portuguese, is a headlong rush into a colourful eco-system teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement.

The show contains all the ingredients we have come to expect from Cirque du Soleil including stunning costumes, humour and infectious live music.

I paid full price for my ticket…Didn't really enjoy the show this time…the last one I went to (Alegria) in Dubai was way better…It think it's the story line…

The crowd also didn't seem to acknowledge that the performer with the time-glass shaped and string's peformance was difficult and good…The tightrope guy got a lot more applause.

It's good for those who have never been a to a Cirque Du Soleil spectacle…you would enjoy it…But if you've been before, you may share the same view as I did regarding not enjoying it as much.

And, 1 more thing…the guy sitting in front of me stank of BO…talk about a sensory overload…

    • lol at the BO buddy. Hate when that happens. It is bad enough on a tram… but for 2hrs!

      • going by your avatar your comments may be more personal than we think ironbuns ; )

  • I had a front row ticket and left at intermission a couple of years ago.

It was one of their older shows and the costumes and makeup had not evolved when that show was designed. So it was missing that spectacular visual impact. But is still had the clowns.

For me, CDS is a balancing act. I HATE those bloody European/French clowns. I hate their humour. I find it so repulsive that it detracts from the show. It is something to be endured. Once the quality of the other aspects that I actually want to see declines, the clowns tip the whole thing into a steaming mess of crap. For me anyway.

  • This or Circus Oz?
I've never been to circus before.

    • You may as well support the Australian option. Personal preferences apply.

  • Agreed on the above; saw CDS for the first time in Sydney in Nov for Ovo and was pretty disappointed, despite getting the tickets for half price. The actual circus acts are good, with two particularly memorable ones, but the 'filler' of the over the top slapstick clown humour in between was just tedious, and really ruined the show for me.

Having then seen La Soiree and especially Empire (which was absolutely incredible compared to both CDS and La Soiree), Ovo looked distinctly dated and only just about worth the money I paid.

  • IMO Empire was marginally better then OVO. I was too disappointed with OVO, Saltimbanco was way better.

  • Whilst I loved Saltimbanco when I saw it, all the opinions of Ovo have me a little wary now.

    Anyway, OT:
If the "original" prices were "up to $114", then they're seemingly only the last 4 rows on either side of the stage (as per CDS's seating layout on their site). From what I remember, seating viewing wasn't too bad generally, but still something to note.

EDIT: Only one with closer seating for that "original" ticket price is Friday 4pm matinees.
