  • these usually only go for $15 elsewhere and the carts are $5 a pack, just not always at coles. not really a bargain more just not paying colestax

As above, not really a deal. Had to buy one of these after ex-cyclone Oswald paid a visit a while back and killed our power off for a few days, by memory was $18 all up with stove and a 4-pack of carts, everyday prices at Bunnings.

    • Indeed Kmart have always had theirs at $16 and a 4 pack of those gas things is $5. I wouldn't call a saving of a dollar a bargain but I've seen Bi-Lo display "Special" on items with a few cents knocked off with a big red price tag.

Just checked online, stove is 13.89 at Bunnings and 4pk gas is $4.45
Though no grill with the Bunnings unit. ( thx for the heads up on that mr alligator )

  • +4

People who are comparing price with Bunnings need to realize that Bunnings sell stove and grill separately.
    $13.89 for stove

    $12.98 for the grill
    http://www.bunnings.com.au/products_product_bbq-acc-equip-ga…
    $4.45 for Butane Cartridges

    Comes up to $31.32

So yes, its good saving provided it comes with the grill as shown in the Coles catalogue.

Thank you sir, I stand corrected, no grill with the Bunnings one by the look on the website.
So it seems like a deal depending on the price of the grill :)

  • Are these things terribly dangerous to use indoors? At least if there's good ventilation?

    • +2

Yes they are - dangerous to living hamburgers and sausages.

For the time used unless you are cooking a feast for all the relatives it's unlikely to cause any ventilation issues. Unless of course you are a student living in a 6X4X8 room….

Nah, they're perfectly fine to use indoors. Lots of Asian restaurants use them at each table… the chinese put a big pot of boiling soup - 'steam boat' on the table, and many of the 'Korean BBQ' restaurants use them with a bbq plate similar to that one on the table too. No fumes, no hassles with indoor use. We use one at home when cooking for a dinner party and need an extra burner, and I take one when on a road trip to cook breakfast in the motel room. They're bloody brilliant all 'round.

      • I'm pretty sure you aren't allowed to cook with gas in motel rooms… TBH though I would be willing to bend the rules considering the price of some of their prices when it comes to breakfast.
