Currently shopping around for a credit card and found this offer which seems good for rewards platinum card with good benefits.

  • 0% p.a. intro balance transfer rate for 6 months
  • Earn 16,000 More Rewards Bonus Points (equal to around $70)

Ongoing:
- Earn 2 More Rewards points per $1 on eligible purchases

Says reduced annual fee of $99 (not sure what was old fee and when this offer expires)

"The bonus points offer is only available to new customers. The bonus points will be credited at the end of the 2 month period provided the first eligible purchase is made within 2 month from account open date."

Classic and golds cards also available but I have only listed Platinum details above.

  • The bonus rewards points and 'reduced' annual fee have been available for a while now. A few months ago they were offering 0% p.a. on purchases for 6 months. You can still get that but only on the Breeze card. I haven't seen the annual fee at anything but $99, so not sure what the actual full price would be, if you ever have to pay it.

No interest free period… what's the point?

  • the local branch was waiving the fee on all cards for the first 1year if you opened up a rewards account at the same time during xmas. not sure if its still going best ask at the branch?

  • I use the "Zero" Platinum card. Are points worth it? I know it depends on your individual annual spend but I've found the return to be 1% or less of annual spend (even on a platinum card. Am I right or am I looking at it wrong?

Thats right, this website has a good summary.

      • thanks for confirming :)

    • hmm maybe i should start looking at the rewards points, we spend about 36K a year on credit cards (use it as a buffer to our homeload - everything goes on the homeloan) thats 360 bux for free or 261 after the annual fee… bit of a pain in the ass though… is it worth it?

      • 36k for $261!!! my parents use it to claim gift cards every December to buy Xmas presents.
I guess a little is better than nothing, but at my current spend, I cannot be bothered at the moment.]
Content with Bankwest Platinum "Zero"'s benefits without the point scheme.

      • Sorry for out of topic, but if you are looking for rewards point, Amex card may have better options.

  • I really feel that the Bankwest Rewards Program is terrible. Any program that offers you points towards giftcards is not worth the effort (especially Webjet… ripoff!).

IMHO, it's MUCH better value to earn towards a program that will help you fly somewhere that you could not otherwise afford (or prefer not to pay full price for), e.g. Business class, First Class or RTW tickets.

  • which would be better - the "more" or the "qantas" card?

    • If you're after giftcards then the More card is better, if you're after flights then it depends on how you fly. For us, we usually buy cheap Virgin flights so the More card is better for that. If you buy expensive plane tickets without waiting for sales etc then the Qantas is probably better.

Have a look at the catalogue: http://www.bankwestmorerewards.com.au, if you spend $11075 you can get a $100 voucher for flight centre (which pricematch all online deals) and hence get the cheap flight to Sydney. For the same flight with Qantas rewards you'll need to spend $14000. But that said, if you shop at Woolies and get more points that way it may be worth your while.
