    It will definitely be a knock off.

    If my experience is anything to go by… it won't be geniune Gorilla Glass, and it won't have few if any protective coatings on it (so it will mark easily). The screen will be slightly thicker than the original.

    The one I got had a noticable yellow-tinge to it, and the colours were not as crisp. I missed my original screen… next time I will just pay Apple's out-of-warranty repair cost.

    If you have a smashed screen and only have a few months left in your contract, go for it. Repaired phones can be easily sold too.

  Well getting a refurb from Apple will set you back about $180. This repair at $60 is much cheaper.
  And especially when you only have a few months left, I'd rather spend this $60 than $180 and then go onto ebay or gumtree and sell the phone for $300 or so.
  Also, I don't think it's easy to tell if the screen is a aftermarket replacement or not until you take it apart and see that the stickers used to cover certain things are missing or so, unless you've recieved a really crappy screen with poor/washed out looking colour.

  Gorilla glass can't be that good. I've seen countless iphones with smashed screens - it seem like 50% of them, although it's probably not that high. Glass screens are one of the biggest -ves about iphones imo.

  doing this voids any apple warranty. to swap an iphone out of warranty for a brand new iphone 4 from apple is $179, brand new iphone 4s is $229, brand new iphone 5 is $269. its a swap process, give them yours and they give you a brand new one. this includes liquid damage and smash damage. if an iphone is tampered with by a repair shop you cannot get these services done in or out of warranty.
