  • Looks like a lot of bang for your buck in there.

Full HD, 1TB HDD, Radeon 7730 (no idea if this is a good performer or not?)

  • link dosn't work

  • I was going to post this yesterday, but then found that it's not much different from the intro price 9 months ago (except an upgrade from 6GB to 8GB). Maybe Dell can really keep its value :)

Another question for the Dell staff — why is the same laptop different price on Dell Home and Dell Business?

Especially when they have the same spec. The Dell Business one is actually better with 1 year NBD service (comparing to Carry-In Service).

      scotty,
Dell Home laptop has win 8.

I am wondering whether Inspiron 15R SE (win 7) is upgradable to Win 8 or whether there is unsupported hardware.

Tried adding NRMA discount code to get further 4%, but didn't work.

      • Thanks. I was only looking at the hardware :) Yeah Windows 8 is not an upgradable option for Inspiron 15R SE under Dell Business so you have to source the upgrade yourself. Some might prefer Win7 though (a lot of business would, to reduce training cost seeing the big difference in UI from Win7 to Win8).

    • there is no carry in service. all service calls are onsite

    Save $600? Nah, it's $999 ($100 cash off) with Windows 8 (64bit) from here:
    http://search.ap.dell.com/results.aspx?s=dhs&c=au&l=en&cs=au…

    • See my comment above. If you click on "For Work" at the top of Dell home page, you'll get to Dell Business site and that's where you find the $899 Inspiron 15R SE.

      • Yes, I read your comment and I was pointing out that the discount for the 3-Day sale has been greatly exaggerated. The current online price as shown in the above link is $999 and you get the usual discount of $100 Cash off, making it also $899 but it comes with Windows 8.

        • The $899 ($100 off) Inspiron 15R SE is actually not the one listed here. See

          http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-15r-se-7520/fs

          It's an i5 without the Blu-Ray drive.

        • I see, but the one just next to it at $999 is an i7 with BD drive and W8.

        • Yes. That one is $999 with $400 off, which is exactly the same spec as OP's $899 with $600 off, except with Windows 8 instead of Windows 7, which I've already noted in the comment above :)

          Yeah Dell pricing is confusing.

  • Very good spec actually. If I have not the Alienware R4 I would consider this offer.

  • Kind of unrelated but
    http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/product…

    Dell(TM) UltraSharp U2913WM 29" Monitor with LED $368

    • Good price but damn… that res/aspect is an odd one. Can't say I'd like it

    • Impulse buy :( … just notice the deal earlier at about a hundred bux more,
but this one lost the extra 2yrs warranty and premium panel exchange.

  • Looked everywhere on the site and cant see if its got HDMI output or how many (and what type) usb ports it has

  • wow that's an awesome price, but how's battery life on this special with 48Whr battery ?

    I ask as i just bought a Dell 15R, i5-3317U, 8GB, AMD 88730, 1TB SATA, 1366 resolution laptop and it has 65Whr battery and lasts a good 7-9hrs for AUD$818.

  • Anyone have any idea how much this weighs? Cant see it on the link.

    • Copied from this page:

      Dimensions & Weight
      Height: 30.3mm - 34.1mm (1.19” – 1.34”)
      Width: 378 mm (14.88”)
      Depth: 252 mm (9.92”)
      Starting weight: 2.766 kg (6.098lbs)

Not exactly light weight for a 15.6incher.

No SSD or option for SSD?

    • +1

Would be cheaper to buy and install yourself anyway. Plus you have the control of brand. HDD/SSD swaps in notebooks are usually pretty easy to get to.

    • +1

I think this model has room for an msata SSD. If this is true, you can install a small msata SSD for improving Windows performance or you can install a larger msata SSD alongside the 1TB drive that comes with it. This would give you the best of both worlds.

      http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/…

Confirm all this with Dell - this model may even come with a 32GB msata SSD installed!

      • +1

According to dell web site the home one for $999 has a 32GB msata but the $899 one doesn't

Also the $999 has the daughter board for msata (obviously) but the $899 one doesn't

        • Then the $999 model would be a no-brainer for me, especially now that Win8 is a $149 upgrade. A 15" laptop with space for a blu-ray, spacious conventional HDD and a speedy SSD is very nice - the best of all worlds.

Note that my experience with Dell is that the 3 year extended warranty was a very good investment.

  • Just placed my order. Extraordinary value for money.

  • Nice one… just got one for myself…

Now to swap over the SSD from my current laptop..

  • Has this deal expired? I can't seem to get the price advertised by the rep by clicking on the link above.

    • Yes would have expired yesterday. Marked as expired now.

      • I found something similar to the deal above, says inspiron 15R SE but WITH windows 8 at $899

        http://www.dell.com/au/p/clearance-deals.aspx?c=au&cs=audhs1…

(out of the 5 on there, it's the middle option)
Are there any accessories/specs that are different to the above ad(other than the windows 8)?

        • Thanks. Looks like it got moved to the clearance section. I've updated the post.

        • No worries,
I see you just posted up a lenovo deal yourself. I looked in the clearance section the E530 which seems to have similar specs as this dell inspiron 15R Special Edition.
I don't know very much about laptops in general, would you have any preference out of these 2 models?

        • This is the model with the 32Gb mSATA (and the mSATA board)
