  • Helluva cheap block account.

      $52 per TB

    Highwinds reseller.

    • What's wrong with Highwinds? Are they as bad as Astraweb when it comes to auto-DMCA takedowns?

  • Purchased! Accidentally clicked back on PayPal payment page. Now have one service as active and paid and one as pending :/

    • I did this too many times, BE WARNED! Once you have purchased your first block/s, any order you click checkout for will automatically debit your paypal, ie. you wont go through the same process as the first time round. Ended up with multiple blocks I didnt know I had purchased!

  • Can you stack the 25gb block accounts ?
    Eg 4 x 25gb block accts for about $5 ?

    • I just did that. I clicked it twice accidentally and went to checkout.

      Then paid for another one.

      So far I've got 3x 25GB accounts. I hope they don't mind…

    • +2

Yes. You get a separate login/pass for each one though.
If you raise a support ticket they'll combine them under the one username.

    • I just bought 4 of them at once by clicking 25GB 4 times
100GB block with infinite validity ftw!!!!
      thx OP

    Usenets… Where trolls were birthed.

So, don't think this one's for me, but just curious, what is it?

Website data storage? A private cloud storage account for backing up personal files?

The 1st rule of Usenet … blah blah blah

Let Me Google That For You …

      • implying the MPAA don't know about usenet

        • I think that the reason for the "first rule" is that the more people that use it, the more certain parties will want to shut it down.

        • Trying to shut down Usenet is like trying to shut down e-mail. It's pretty much impossible as it's decentralised, there's no one "owner" of Usenet.

    • Thanks for all the helpful comments, team!

  • What is Usenet and what can I do with it?

I certainly hope you've been under your bridge all weekend taunting billie goats

It's used mostly for acquiring and distributing binaries (movies, music, software, pornography). Basically a cesspool of filth. I say that because there's nothing altruistic about a service that PROFITS FROM SELLING access to these things.

      • +3

        Wow … just … wow …

      • It's not specifically for binaries. You could think of it as an extremely large, unmoderated forum system. A lot of people still use it for its original use - Look at Google Groups for example (http://groups.google.com/), it's built on top of Usenet.

  • Thanks picked this up :D

  • I feel like i should try this usenet business.

    • +3

Usenet isn't the be all and end all of downloading stuff. Some stuff you'll find on Usenet, other you will have to look elsewhere.

If you don't want to spend any money you could try Usenet for free for 10 days (10GB) by signing up for an acccount @ https://www.tweaknews.eu/

No Paypal or credit card payment needed, you just sign up and use it right away. Good way to see if Usenet is for you.

      • Thanks! Was looking for a way to try this, and seeing as my paypal has a whole 17c in (stupid slow clearing) i shall try this!

  • sweet - thx OP - grabbed 4

    • Same got 4 then I made a support ticket. He reapplied back in 2 minutes to combine the 4 to one username. Can't get better then that

      • only grabbed 2 but likewise did the ticket thing no problems

  • Thanks :D

nice find!! got 4 as well.

Still on Usenet? So primitive, investing in a seedbox is a much better proposition.

    • -1

Seedbox are only good for sharing(seed) torrents

I Use to help out private torrent sites for years with a seedbox/s

You forget the part where you SFTP your files across and don't have to worry about DCMA takedowns and broken par's?

        • i used the excess webstorage on my server for torrenting and my host shut it down without warning and deleted all my files (include my regular website) before i could back it up =(

  • -1

I agree usenet is pretty bad… Cost/Win wise.

    But easy I guess.

Just so everyone is aware, these guys are a Highwinds reseller, which is the network owned by Giganews. They’re just as fast at DMCA takedowns as Astraweb, so there’s no point having them as a backup block account, if that's what people are getting this deal for. If Astraweb has taken it down, so will these guys.

You need a European based network provider like Tweaknews.eu or SunnyUsenet if you want to avoid DMCA.

    • New to this game and I did not know that
      Cheers

    • +1

yes but tweaknews ect have about a 500 days less retention then these guys, so if your after something old then it would be handy to have 25gbs sitting there ready to go for about $1~

      • Yes that's true.

  • I purchased 1 block but the website shat itself and it became two. I don't mind because it's so cheap but yea I definitely won't be using up 50gb anytime soon. Especially if it doesn't offer much advantage over my Astraweb source.

  • +5

I've noticed that when you buy a block account from these guys, they set up a a relationship with your Paypal account for recurring payments (i.e. a subscription)

You can manually unsubscribe by logging into Paypal and going to https://www.paypal.com/au/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_manage-paylist…

On that page, click on the name of the merchant (CubeNet, LLC) and on the following page, where it says "Status: Active", click the Cancel link next to it.

This will prevent Cubenet from automatically withdrawing from your account.

    • I read that to when paying, but when checking my account on CubeNet, it says no recurring payments. I think its for people who sign up to month by month payments.

  • +1

If you're buying a block account to finish things your main provider doesn't grab- check this map http://i.imgur.com/kU7k9.png

  • Picked up 8 blocks for a total of 200gb back-up. Nice.

  • Why do they need my address?

  • Still working for that price, figured I'd give it ago (got 4X 25G blocks). Thanx OP.

  • I also found that the included Newsrover software (limited to use with cubenet) was quite useful now that many nzb search sites are down

  • Expired.
