Excluding veg filling? I thought veggie filling are cheaper compared to non veg filling.

    • Maybe there are special ingredients :-)

The way it's formatted they definitely mean that guacamole isn't charged extra with the vegetarian filling option, not that the veg option is excluded from the sale.

Either way Zambrero is bloody delicious. Well except for the fact that the lettuce is laced with crushed ants ie.coriander.

    • It is not excluding vegetarian filling. Rather, it is stating that guacamole is not included, except where you select vegetarian filling, which includes guacamole.

  • So my fellow OB's, is Scoopon really worth joining up? Tell me…do! Love Mexican and heading into town a few times next month.

  • How does Zambrero compare with the likes of Guzman y Gomez or Mad Mex?

Zambrero is the best! It's not very 'authentic' mexican but it's better than GYG and Mad Mex imo.

    • Wow, that's a big claim. I'm just a bit concerned with the Urbanspoon reviews. I just don't want an Aussie version of a burrito, aka Salsas.

      • I think it's got a lot to do with personal taste really. I really like the freshness of the Zambrero salads and sauces, whereas others whinge that it's nothing like proper mexican food. Best way to find out it to try one I guess!

    • I may be a little biased, because I live in the ACT, but I absolutely agree that they're better than Mad Mex and GYG.
Mad Mex is fine, but Zambrero just seems easier, and leaves me craving their chipotle sauce for days afterwards.
Luckily they're as common as McDonalds around here ;)

  • Bit the bullet. The beers here are $2 at happy hour which appears to run until 9pm. Well, I'm happy.

  • I had it for dinner. The portion is very good for a dinner or lunch. Tasty too.

I went there tonight as well. Empty when I went in. In the 45 minutes we were there, they had around 10 customers. 8 of 10 had Scoopons. They had a small file that was dedicated to Groupons, Scoopons, Cudo and whatever other voucher sites they used. Happily accepted the Scoopon, in fact the girl at the counter was very friendly/chatty to everyone coming in.

As mentioned before they were offering $2 beers all night as they just got their liquor license so $7 for a beer and burrito is a good deal.

As for the burrito, it's probably 10-20% bigger than Mad Mex/Guzman y Gomez and it's at the same price level. The bread is the same quality as others. No pork on the menu is a down but not the end of the world. Other meat quality is good. I think the one downside of the burrito was a huge amount of lettuce in middle. Of course I had a choice of lettuce but it seemed that putting a handful of lettuce in was the norm. This changed the flavour somewhat and puts it in a close 3rd position behind Mad Mex/GyG. However they put crushed up corn chips in the middle which was a great touch I haven't seen anywhere else.

I'm not sure what it was but I made a mess eating the burrito. I think it had to do with the foil it was wrapped in or perhaps too much filling making the burrito not tight enough.

I'd definitely go there again. Seems like they are building one in Melb Uni so that will be a better location.

  • Is this better or the Red Rooster deal?

    • totally different food and hard to compare the two. You gotta try it for yourself. I was happy with the food. You won't regret.

      • thx, bought.
