I don't think it's a pricing error, they just accidentally wrote SanDisk where they were supposed to write Monster.

  • Damn, I missed out on the 50 and 85L by not that much, if only my pump hadn't broken down! Would have been a good excuse to go full frame finally. Ended up with the 70-200 2.8 non-IS, I was going to get the f4 sometime this year as it was.

See how that goes, I have order confirmation and it's been taken out of my PayPal.

  • Managed to pickup the Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 Nikon mount for sub $200. Hope they honor it. Missed the Tokina 11-16mm for $180 :(

  • A bunch of lucky people up in here if they honour it. I would've bought a ton of things if I saw this earlier.

  • I am pretty sure they will state it's a mistake and willing to offer $xx discounts on the items you ordered. :)

  • I really hope they honour this…. I managed to get the 100mm 2.8 Macro and the 100-400mm f 4.5-5.6 L IS for under $600! I was too slow to get more! I went back for the 70-200mm 2.8 but it sold out as I was going through the checkout. Thanks for posting this!

  • I believe they will have to honour the transaction if your credit card have been charged. Good luck to those who got in first.

    • +1

No, I had similar experience before on DWI. Canon 5DIII, $500 cheaper than normal. They charged my cc as well. Finally order cancelled and refund.

    • Have you had your head in the sand? Have you not heard about this incident http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/89032 ?

      • shh lol

I hope they still honour it though, I missed out on the lenses but got the 650d

I would seriously be happy for you guys if Grays honour the sales. Photography can really get expensive.

    • tell me about it lol!

    • +1

it can also be really cheap. good photos doesnt need expensive gear. you just the right techniques and imagination

      • +1

Lets see you easily do shallow DoF at f/5.6. :)

        • -2

photoshop or 3d model might ;)

        • yeah, cos photoshop and 3d modelling software along with a powerful computer is all cheap, right?

        • -1

relatively cheap if it is part of your job, to get daily bread

        • +1

if it's your job, you should be using the right equipment from the start and not trying to fake shallow dof with photoshop!

        • why not?am not photographer. but my friend indeed need that equipment

        • +1

er, maybe you need to re-read all your posts again. :)

        • -1

good photography is not all about the dof
lets just see if you can get a good landscape shot with shallow dof

        • You said "good photos doesn't need expensive gear".

I said lets see you get shallow dof at f/5.6.

My point was that you need relatively expensive lenses to get shallow dof.

          Do you disagree?

Use one of these for $6 delivered.

          Bokehlicious.

The DOF is decent enough at 5.6 on a decent kit lens, but how decent are you talking? I've seen Bokeh on a 5.6 18-55mm, but it's more metres before it blurs, not millimetres.

Also, how much does the nifty 50 set you Canon-ers back these days? Can't be much, Nikon do a 1.8 for ~$150.

        • +1

Those are macro tubes. They do give you shallow DoF but only if you're taking macro shots. They also disconnect the lens from the body so you have no aperture control, AF, or IS (remember we're talking about Canon here). Fine for home use, but really too impractical for anything more than casual macro shots.

As I mentioned in another post below, you can get some shallow dof with a stock lens, it just won't be as shallow.

Nifty fifty, probably around $100. There's a reason why it's called plastic fantastic too, though! f/1.2 lets in a lot more light too, good for low-light shooters.

        • You can get a cheap-o NDF to bring it down a couple of stops for a matter of dollars on Ebay too.

Don't get me wrong - I understand what you're saying and agree, but there are ways around it. Also, if your shutter speed goes to 4000 and you bump your ISO down to 100 you should be all right anyway.

The macro tubes would be a bit fiddly, but you could use them for portraiture reasonably well to acheive a shallower depth of field - there are cheats for locking the aperture on Nikons - just stick a bit of blutack on the catch, I'm sure you could do similar on Canon lenses.

        • Hmm, putting cheap filters in front of a lens is asking for flare. :)

There are ways around it? How would you let in f/1.2's worth of light with an f/3.5 or f/1.8 lens? Are you also able to get the same dof as an f/1.2 lens without losing AF, IS, and aperture control?

The only way to lock aperture on a canon lens is to … attach the lens to the body, set the aperture you want, press the dof preview button, and remove the lens while still pressing the button. Hardly practical and if you're outdoors, all that lens-swapping will let dust in.

As with lots of things, there may be cheap hacks to try and achieve what more expensive devices can do, but there'll always be a compromise.

At the end of the day, if fast lenses were as pointless as brongz and bby claim, people wouldn't be trying to 'hack' slower lenses into getting the same effect. :)

        • he only way to lock aperture on a canon lens is to … attach the lens to the body, set the aperture you want, press the dof preview button, and remove the lens while still pressing the button.

Sucks to own a Canon, then.

And I can't be bothered going through it again. Never claimed you can get an F number of 1.2 on anything lower than a 1.2.

          What a ridiculous statement.

        • I said it's possble to get some shallow dof with a stock lens, it just won't be as shallow as a fast lens.

You said you understand what I'm saying and agree, but there are ways around it.

So I asked how do you get the same dof as an f/1.2 lens, on a stock f/3.5-5.6 lens, without heavy compromises?

(the other benefit is 1.2 lets in a lot more light. Maybe I should have mentioned the dof first)

      • -2

that's what i try to tell. my friend photographer can use iphone to get artistic pics. expensive doesn't always mean better. it's the man behind the gun like the old saying

        • +3

There are some shots that are simply impossible to get without fast lenses. e.g. shallow dof, and low-noise low-light shots.

an iphone can only do so much. It is absolutely rubbish at shallow dof and low light sensitivity compared to a good slr with fast lens.

Just because you don't know the benefits of fast primes doesn't mean fast primes are useless to everyone. :)

        • -3

wow, that's generalizing. i never say 'to everyone'. some professions do need it, like my friends.

        • So only professionals should buy prime lenses? It's a waste of money for anyone else? Wow, that's generalizing…

        • the fact imo it is. but like i said before it's a matter of choice in life, which i 'believe' doesn't suit me.

        • +1

That's good for you. Now what was the point of you bringing that up in a lens thread?

        • reminding us the teaching of barefoot investor about managing money; like that 'car values'. coz ozbargain spirit essentially not about wasting money, but saving.

        • +5

If you spend your whole life trying to save money and never spend it on what makes you happy, you will end a rich dead guy who lived a boring life…

Also, OzB isn't about saving, its about getting as much shit as you possibly can with the money you have, lol.

        • -2

@eug seriously you need to stfu because you have no idea what youre talking about. just because you have millions of dollars of gear doesnt mean you can take good photos
sharp image/shallow dof doesnt mean youll get a good photo.
heard of lomo or pinhole? you dont even need a fkn lens for that shit
try talking a picture of a white wall at f1.2. without the technique and imagination its still going to be a boring photo
          seriously stfu and gtfo

        • -1

Calm down, no need to overreact over a post on a forum.

If you re-read everything slowly with an open mind, you'll realize that my point was that you cannot get shallow DoF without a fast lens. You can get some shallow dof with a slow lens, but it won't be as shallow.

I never said that sharp images and shallow dof means you'll get a good photo. Where did you pluck that from?

Did you imagine it in your mind and for some reason pretended that I said it?

I also said that you cannot get (SLR+fast-lens-equivalent) shallow dof and low-light sensitivity with an iphone. Do you disagree with that?

        • -1

It's a completely obvious point, totally missed. Also, the idea that Lomo or pinhole cameras "dont [sic] even need a fkn [sic] lens" shows a significant lack of knowledge of the subject.

  • If I could get primes and zooms at those prices I would switch to Canon right away.

  • sigh missed out big time :*(

  • Would be interested to see if they honour the deal.

  • I really need to stop spending time with my kids - I keep missing out on bargains like this!! T_T

  • It's back. I just went to Canon 50mm f/1.2 L and Canon 35mm f/1.4L links and it allowed me to place order. Just put it on my credit card so if there is any issue, I will just chargeback. Let's see what happens..

    • 50 1.2 and 85 1.2 out of stock again. That was fast!

  • Does anyone have links to Canon 100mm L Macro lens? If you ordered one, it should be in your order history to view. I just want to check whether it shows in stock now. No harm in just putting the order through.

  • edit

  • damn no price error on pentax

    • +1

Maybe consider changing systems with prices like these? :D

  • I got a 70-200 f2.8 Sigma for nikon, but I just saw I had another one in my cart! I deleted the cart so if someone is quick they can snap it up.

  • Trying my luck with one of the Canon 8-15mm Fisheye's … thanks OP

    • I also got Fisheye. I think it goes out of stock with couple of orders and so it's out of stock again now.

      • do you have a link to the fish eye? Thanks :)

  • I am so tempted to add Canon 5d M3 to cart for $1766.95. If anyone wants, try your luck…

  • Picked up a 70-300L also! :)

I can't wait till we all come to OzBargain tomorrow and find out that graysonline has been hacked and some guy just got away with thousands of dollars.

    • Thanks for that. Now I feel better.

    • Ringing up CBA. bom bom. Can you reverse that charge. Thanks mate.

      • That simple?

        • hopefully ;)

        • Hopefully it doesn't happen at all ;)

    • Damn you! I wont be able to sleep now :-) Possible but then why all other items like TV, Sony cameras, laptops etc are showing up with normal prices. A hacker would want to earn maximum in shortest amount of time and run with it..

    • If I were the hacker, I'd be very happy to take all the personal information, password, cc details, everything…

      • +1..That'll be a major news. They must have details of thousands of customer on file..

    • Well my money went to their PayPal..

      • Have you gotten any tax invoices yet?

  • There are still some cheap items up there:

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Lens for $755 (normally ~$1200)
    Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM for $472 (normally ~$1400)
Canon EOS 7D with 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens Kit for $451 (normally ~$1100)

    • -2

good pickup. ill buy them too and chuck them on ebay.

    • 7D kit gone!

    • yea only managed to get the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II. Life is tough

  • Canon EOS 650D with 18-135mm IS STM Lens Kit for $518.95 still in stock apparently, that's normally a ~$900 grey import

    • -2

meh, with all the other "bargains" i got, doesn't really seem worth the effort.

  • Did anyone start receiving tax invoice from them? I've received for couple of them now.

    • Only 1 invoice received so far, with 2 outstanding. Hmmm…

    • Yup, I did and the money is already listed as pending on my CC….

The more important question is how long before they blame it on the work experience kid? lol

      • Maybe tomorrow morning..lol. Hope someone doesn't get fired for this..

And yeah, it also shows as pending on my CC now..

  • -1

Not sure why it says expired. Just grabbed my dream lens. The 70 200 2.8IS. Also not sure why the non is was more expensive. Anyway. Here's hoping!

    • The IS is $1268 while the non is $622. You sure you bought the right lens, mate?

      • I think it's the f4 which is absurdly similarly priced :)

But yes checked. It was the right lens :)

  • -2

    .

  • When I tried to check out with Paypal it kept saying my Cart is expired. It worked with the CC on file. Anyone have issues with Paypal checkout?

  • thank for sharing,

    missed this one, damn!

    http://i.imm.io/U2dX.png

    • Don't worry. It's like one in billion chance that we will get these lenses..

      • You will either get a refund or get some cheap gear, I say that's win win

  • Lots of item gone. Price is getting updated, can't add anymore items to cart now.

Guess they finally realized what happened :p

    • Where do you see the prices getting updated? I still see them at these prices but out of stock..

    • Yeah, seeing the same, and removal of 'cheap' items.

  • +3

grabbed the Canon EOS 650D with 18-135mm IS STM Lens Kit for $518.95. Will see how it goes, fingers crossed.
