BabyBjörn High Chair Appetite Delivered for ~$230 from Amazon UK (RRP $299)

20

Features:

  • From 6 months to 3 years and easily adjusted to fit their growing needs.
  • Perfect for your child’s little back –the curved backrest hugs your child’s body, and an adjustable table that helps your child to sit upright comfortably.
  • No need for a harness. Your child should not be able to stand up or rest his or her feet on the table so that the chair tips backwards. The foldout table also works as an ingenious safety lock. No harness is needed, and older siblings cannot open the lock
  • Less mess – To cut mess to a minimum, we designed BabyBjorn Highchair with smooth surfaces and no nooks and crannies where food can collect. The safety table fits snugly against your child’s tummy and prevents food from falling into his or her lap. The detachable tray is easy to take off and can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher.
  • Compact when folded – The Highchair folds easily and is perfect for storage or travel thanks to a folded width of just 10.5 in/26 cm.

If you just want the cheapest high chair, this is not it (go for the $25 one from IKEA). I've been looking at the BabyBjorn one because it's easy to operate with no need for harness. I ordered this last Wednesday and received it Monday morning.

If you want to buy from an Australian store, the cheapest I've seen delivered is for $254.95 here (or $239.95 for the red & black one here)

Less than $25 saving. The saving when buying from overseas is supposed to outweigh the loss of local warranty, faster local shipping and on bigger items, increased chance of receiving damaged product. This isn't worth the hassle.

    • I'm not saying that this is a bargain, but I'm not sure if you have purchased from Amazon before…

I purchase from amazon all the time and the max time that is has taken to arrive for me is 5 working days (this even goes for the 36+kg JBL speakers that i bought that came in 3 working days). This is actually faster shipping then most online shops based in Australia. All of Amazon's products come very well packed and you usually get the amazon warranty that come with the product that you buy…

    • I'm happy to save $25, even if others are not.

Like BlitzR said, shipping is fast and well packed. No problems there.
As for warranty, I was willing to take a risk on this product. But that is exactly why I included the Australian store for other OzBargain members who didn't want that risk.

The saving is actually $70. The Australian store gives you a saving of $45 with warranty.

The saving is $25, the RRP is completely irrelevant.

The safety table fits snugly against your child’s tummy and prevents food from falling into his or her lap.

Have these people seen a toddler eat? My daughter's tummy can go from almost flat to bulging and tight as a drum if the food is to her liking.

Personally I recommend the IKEA one - simple and legs come off for when you want to put it into storage.

    • w0rd!

    • The tray table slides out to adjust for different tummy sizes :)
And the legs of this one comes off as well.

I personally didn't like the IKEA one because my son is quite active and found it hard to put him in and keep him in. But for $25, I agree the price is hard to beat.

Wow that's a very expensive highchair which doesn't even have padding!

I use the Ikea highchair for my kids that's only $25 (http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/40157918/). You could also go allout and buy the more expensive Ikea highchair for $99 (http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/50202406/), which is still cheaper then the BabyBjörn one…

I actually liked that it has no padding, but each to his own.

I did mention in my post that if people want a cheap high chair that does the job they can go to IKEA. But to compare the IKEA high chair with this one is like comparing a BMW with a Ford (no offence to Ford owners). Sure, it's cheaper, but it's not comparing apples to apples.

      • +2

Sorry your comparison suggestion is flawed, both Fords and BMWs are unreliable pieces of junk.

+1 for the IKEA high chair - cheap, simple, take out the back and hose it down after use.

I'm glad the silly celeb question wasn't asked again. :)

The fact that nobody's negging your deal shows that we do have respect for your point of view. I personally wouldn't pay that much for any high chair (would rather spend it elsewhere), but to each his own.

And if you've got the money then by all means spend it wherever you like :-)

      • +1

        Okay..
Both a ford and a BMW can get you from A to B… And do you really think a 3 month old is going to care?

  • +1

Agree re: Ikea chair. We had one since my daughter started eating solids, up until she was around 2. Not the best chair, but for $25 it was definitely worth it. Quite comfy too with the rectangular "pillow" they sell. I don't see myself spending the $$$ for this (daughter has since learned to sit with us in a regular dining chair — she's now 3+).

That's not to say bad things about Baby Bjorn though — we had their baby carrier and that was well worth the $$$ too.

Obviously a noob parent. Who gives about getting the best and most expensive baby stuff after you have your second child. Most people go to Ozbargain for bargains after the second time around. Didn't expect to see this here.

  • Seems expensive to me.
We have a wooden adjustable high chair from Mocha: http://www.mocka.com.au/wooden-high-chair.html
    I think it's better value.

For that price the chair had want to feed my baby too!

Could I fit a medium-sized border collie in this? Asking for a friend.

"The BABYBJÖRN High Chair is recommended for children who can sit up on their own, from around five months up until three years (max height 38 in/95 cm)."

Average weight of a three year old baby is about 16kg, give or take.

Good luck fitting the collie into a high chair!

      • Thanks for the advice, you've just saved me $230.

        • thought u said u were asking for a friend? :)

Coming from my own experience and IMHO this amount ($200+) for a baby/toddler highchair is simply wasting money which could be better spent on other more necessary items, such as nappies, wipes, even put towards a better cot/pram. Simply put, the ANTILOP from Ikea (as other commenters have stated) as per this link
    http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/40157918/
and at $25 is what I'd call a true bargain. Tough, light enough to move around, easy to clean, really safe and also comfortable; what more do you need in a high chair?

    • Completely agree with you. This is a complete waste of money…yet when you play by the ozbargain rulebook it is still classed as a bargain simply because you might not find it cheaper elsewhere.
