Harvey Norman $300 Cashback Offer on Toshiba notebooks and ultrabooks

100

Harvey Norman have a $300 cashback offer on Toshiba notebooks and ultrabooks. While some items are still more expensive than elsewhere, some items such as the Toshiba Z930/011 was already discounted as part of the half yearly clearance sale. The $300 CB offer makes it very cheap at $888, compared to say JB Hi Fi which also reduced the same product last couple days and has it at $1,164. The next cheapest on StaticIce is $1,098.

This was perfect timing for me since I was actually looking at that very notebook a couple days back.

Note: On the laptop mentioned above, the Moorabin store only had the display model left…I took that one as didn't want to wait for an order. Not sure about availability at other branches.

I am taking bets if this is "error".

  • +1

Nope, I bought the z930/011 today!

      • +4

Like I said, I bought it today. If its an 'error' well the jokes on them because I ain't giving it back :-)

      • +12

Um that was a pretty obvious pricing error, very few if any retailers would have honoured that price. Calling every HN deal an 'error' is just childish and immature, quit holding a grudge and judge each deal on its own merits.

Return it and buy it again.

Sorry I thought you said you bought it without the cash back.

Anyway HN web site clearly said $300 cash back for Toshiba Laptop over $990.
So it is not a price error but you have to wait for the cash back.

Trademark of HN = Pricing error and purchase being "offers" ;)

  • Just a note to people planning on buying the Win8 stuff remember that Win7 might not yet be compatitible. If you unsure go to their website and check to see if they have drivers for stuff like WiFi, touchpad, ethernet, display for Win7. If they have it for those things I'd be ready to jump on it.

This one has a funky screen resolution as well. http://www.harveynorman.com.au/promos/hot-toshiba-deal/toshi…

  • cdchi, can you private message me? I'd like your thoughts on the laptop, as i cannot seem to find reviews of it online.

This is not a good HN deal for the z930. The $764 deal a few months ago was a great deal.

Professionals like us do not buy laptops from HN.

Prices are not that cheap. Better off buying the $699 Toshiba from Shopping Express (with Windows 7 installed, Windows 8 on DVD) and save yourself the hassle of claiming cashback.

    • Good price and good spec but that is not a Ultrabook and no touch screen.

    • +1

I've bought 3 ultra books in the last year from HN. Two Acer Aspire S3's and a Toshiba Z930.

Aspire S3's = $410 after cash back and TRS.
      Toshiba Z930 i5 = $764

    • So Gerry Harvey was right: you are a professional!

  • +7

No thanks. No more Harvey Norman for me after they ripped me off with the EP121 boxing day sale.

I enjoy going into HN to try out all the latest tech they get in then purchase else where when I know what I want

Also like putting competitor websites on their computers (JB, DSE, OW) that show the same products they sell cheaper

    • +1

LOL that's the douchiest thing ever, I love it!

  • +2

Hm. $300 cash back? How much did HN inflate the prices now? By $400?

    • +1

      More than likely.

Seriously people, the pricing error issue is old news. Consumer law allows for a pricing error not to be honoured. If they'd posted the 'deal' here themselves and then renegued you'd have something to whinge about.

In reality, if it hadn't been posted here, how many people would have happened to come accross it on their site in the short time it was up at that price?! The vast majority of those who ordered it knew full well it was most likely a pricing error, gambled and lost.

There are some good deals posted here for HN at times - 2 for 1 Itunes is one recent one that comes to mind, so how about we just show respect for those who post them, and get over our little sulk session?

    • agree.
when they really wanna do sale they can go quite crazy, liked the touchpad incident, although only happens once in a blue moon.
      anyway,
liked my fellow oz mate quote before:" mate won't rip off mate", some prices of HN seriously needed to be revised.

  • Update:

In hidnsight, I think HN stuffed up on the Z930/011. The half yearly clearance ends TODAY while the CB offer started yesterday. So the Z930/011 price will probably jump back up to what it was pre-half yearly clearance. CB will still apply but that will probably just make it competitive with other online retailers.

    Cheers

will never buy anything from them.

I only ever go to harvey norman to find out what i should not pay for something :D

  • I usually say no to any HN purchase as well unless dirt cheap, but I had someone that was after a new laptop and I initially priced something up that I could get through my channels but since it was Thursday night I popped into the local HN more to have a poke at one in person.

Needless to say as commented above they were also overlapping the 1/2 yearly sale (ending now) which brought the model I was after down from $1499 (HAH) to $1047. Ok price nothing overly great about the same as what I was going to get the same thing for. BUT it was over $990 so eligible for the $300 cash back. Sold.

Also, a similar model was normal price $994 or something but 1/2 yearly price was $888 which. I commented to the sales guys but that makes it not available for the $300 off, which at $994 would make it CHEAPER than the sale price. He was happy to sell that full price for me, great for him and great for the customer on that one too.

  • need to be over $990 … not a bargain anymore :(

  • Unfortunately the half yearly clearance price on the Z930/011 is finished however the cash back offer is still going.

The z930/011 price is back up to $1,286 ($986 after cash back).

Has anyone actually received the $300 cashback cheque? I have been emailing the contact listed on the form several times and get no response. It's close to the final time you can send the form in so I want to make sure they got it.
