28º Global Platinum Mastercard: $0 Fee for 2 Years for New Customers @ Latitude Financial

819

Latitude have gotten desperate.

  • This offer is available to the intended recipient of this email and is non-transferrable.

I received this as a former customer, yet the page also states for only for new customers. Clicking the Apply Now link applies a promo code in the URL so it should work for anyone other than current customers or likely those who have cancelled very recently.

  • $8 monthly credit card fee will be waived for your first 2 years if you apply for a Latitude 28° Global Platinum Mastercard and are approved by 28 May 2025.
  • To have your monthly credit card fee waived in year three, you need to spend at least $12,000 on eligible purchases in year two. Each subsequent year you may qualify for a monthly card fee waiver if you spend at least $12,000 on eligible purchases in the preceding 12-month period. The relevant annual period starts on the day you are approved which becomes your annual anniversary date.
  • The $8 monthly credit card fee is subject to change. Any purchases made by an additional cardholder will contribute towards the primary cardholder's spend threshold. Eligible transactions are based on the date posted and do not include cash advances, cash equivalent transactions, card fees or charges, credits, refunds, reimbursements, Shopper's Protection premiums, interest and balance transfers into an account.
  • Latitude may vary, extend or withdraw this offer at any time without notice.

Neg due to the shitty business practices and the greediness of this joke of a company

Guess they are approaching the FO phase of FAFO?

  • +8

    No thanks

I still have my cards and I'm getting sick of the $8 fee.

What's the OzBargain best alternative for fee free overseas transactions, overseas ATM withdrawals etc? That's all I used it for the overseas perks. Not fussed about the shopping protection.

    • +1

      Wise has a card.

    • +1

Up or Wise work if you are not after points or credit card.

    • +5

I cancelled my 28⁰ card when they announced the fee, and after a bit of cursory research, I found opening a Macquarie account, to get access to their debit card, to be pretty much the same. Obviously it's not a credit card, so you have to plan ahead a bit and put money in there first, but there's no account fees, ATM fees (overseas too) or currency conversion fees. I've also linked to my PayPal which allows me to make AliExpress purchases in US$, with is marginally cheaper than setting the currency to AU$, and not have to directly give them my card details ( though AliExpress probably is totally safe).

I use the Bendigo Ready card, no annual fees and decent Complimentary Travel Insurance. No rewards program though…
HSBC visa and Wise for no/low fees withdrawal but HSBC keeps denying withdrawals randomly.

      • +1

Agree on the HSBC, I haven't had withdrawal issues.
Hardest thing for me has been finding a HSBC ATM to withdraw from.

*For others who don't have the card- The HSBC global visa debit has no foreign currency fees and no fees on ATM withdrawals, as long as you withdraw from a HSBC ATM

    • Many options are outlined in the wiki - Debit & Credit Cards with No International Fees.

Popular credit card examples include Bendigo and Bankwest. Popular debit card examples include Bankwest and Macquarie.

  • or likely those who have cancelled very recently.

how do they define 'very' recently?

  • +2

It was my first credit card and I held it for many years.
I lived off it in the UK for 6 months back when you could push it into debit and withdraw from the ATM fee fee with no cash advance.
Took advantage of many of their promos and predominantly use this card for my international purchases eg. AliExpress, eBay etc.

Cancelled when they introduced a monthly fee.
This is infuriating but not surprising.

  • +3

No thanks, let them taste their own medicine.

  • +4

Only reason I still have mine is the grandfathered in price protection. If it wasn't for that I'd have cancelled this when the fees came in

    • +1

They charge for the "shoppers protection" in addition to the monthly fee.
      So it gets really costly.

      • +3

One can pre-emptively pay off the card such that the closing balance is $0, taking the monthly fee into consideration and saving 8 cents per month.

        • +1

Yerp exactly this. Although now you also have to account for the $8 fee otherwise they charge you 1% even on the fee which is stupid

        • These bastards charged me much more than 8 cents. It has been several dollars. And I have never used their shoppers protection feature.
Thanks for the post. I just closed this card.

  • Cancelled a few cards some months ago due to progressively worse product.

  • After years, cancelled my card last month. Not paying $8 a month. What a joke!

  • +1

I’ve just applied for the BankWest fee free , no additional charge on international transactions.

Is this out of favour now?

  • oops. been meaning to dump it. thanks for the reminder!

  • Does that 12 month fee waive end soon? I'll cancel then for sure

  • Two thumbs down

  • I dunno enough about it and it’s maybe not his fault but man that ceo, after Aus post and now this dumb ass move …

  • Voting down as Latitude don't deserve free (positive) marketing

CEO of Latitude - So easy a caveman can do it.

  • Latitude getting no fees for 2 Years with Zero Customers

  • Neg from me, F your loyal customers. Ok no problem, I'll be leaving

  • Cancelled my Latitude card recently … they don't value their customers at all by changing a fee free card to 8$/month … sorry…. maybe should have kept their existing customers when they offer it again for free now. Stupid company.

  • Latitude have ruined this card.

  • -1

Yes, they do charge an $8 fee, but you get $10 credit back, that can be used almost anywhere, so in effect they are paying you $2 per month to have their card. I am still with them. You can also get other credit amounts for things. I managed $100 credit a little while ago. You just need to use it as your main credit card. If you use it as an occasional use card, then probably not worth it.

    • could you explain more on the $10 credit back? I assume if that was the case, people wouldn't make a fuss over the monthly charge?

      • -2

Certainly. Once you pay your monthly statement, they give you a $10 credit voucher. This can be used straight away, or saved ( I think that the expiry is about 2 years ). You can use then "buy" a voucher to hundreds of different companies like Coles, Woolies, Amazon, SuperCheap etc etc etc. Spend like any other voucher.
I think that the fuss was caused because a lot of people only keep the card for occasional use, and overseas transactions etc, and because it was always free before, but now they have the $8 fee ( but they give you $10 back ).

        • Where do I find this voucher? I don't think I've ever received one.

          • +2

@Shekster: Commenters above neglected to mention the minimum $1000 spend for the statement period to receive it.

            • +1

@Junk Sifter: Wow well that's a Latitude-employee level of trying to justify the monthly fee then lol.

So just to reiterate for everyone else (but most importantly, anyone from Latitude reading this), this card is absolutely worthless and an inferior product in virtually every way compared to the many other options available on the market.

The only possible reason one would keep this card is if they still have the Price Protection plan still included from before (eg. Me, but will cancel the card immediately once I reach the lifetime limit).

              • -1

@Shekster: Well, I guess that is why there is options. Not all products, suit all people. Don't get me wrong, I thought that it was a shitty move as well. It was always free, and now it is not ( except for me, since I meet the conditions, they pay me $2 every month to use it ). It is still an awesome card, love all of the benefits ( especially the fee free international exchange conversion ) and also love the Falcon ( I think it is called ) security system, as they have picked up a few fraudulent transactions for me.
As always, you need to read about a product before you use it, make sure that it suits you. Just because it isn't fit for your purpose, does not mean that it doesn't work for other people.

            • @Junk Sifter: So sorry that I forgot all of the ins and outs. I use it as my daily driver, so I get one every month.

          • -1

@Shekster: They email it to you.

        • To get $10 you have to spend $1000

    • To get $10 credit you have to spend $1000 per month.

  • +1

At this point, it feels like I've paid more monthly fee than saving international fee. Really considering cancelling this card.

  • +1

    too little too late latitude

No way! Unethical company!! I have cancelled my card and differently not going back to them.

OP didn't include the opening lines of the email.

"Let’s cut to the chase…we miss you and want you back! We know the fee changes made last year didn’t meet your expectations, but we’d love to make it up to you."

    Thanks but no thanks!

    • +3

Got the same email. Talk about an understatement! If they didn't want us to leave they never should have introduced the fee! If they really want me back, no fee for life would be the minimum starting point.

  • I signed up with 28 degrees again as i had cancelled it due to monthly fee and im travelling oversease next week so i requested them if they can deliver the card in 4-5 days if approved and i got a call from them saying its approved and they will express post the card to me,This card helps with overseas travel as its got 0$ foreign transaction fee, hopefully i get the card before my travel, I will use it for 2 years and then cancel it unless they decide to extend the offer, i dont think getting 10$ back is worth cause to get that 10$ we need to spend 1000$ , i might as well spend that much with the airline cards and get airmiles.

    • Got a SMS today as my email must have been buried or ignored.

I might do the same. Going o/s next month also.

Will use for 2 years then bin.
