Great price for a good quality Pan/Tilt cam.

Anyone tested this single lens version compared to the more popular (and considerably more expensive) dual lens Trackmix?

    • +1

Dammit, couldn’t wait at this price.

Ended up being US$64.39 or AU$102.48 with 4% coins discount as well. Thanks OP!

    • (and entirely different cameras with PTZ as their commonality )

    • Trackmix is a good camera that is best used on a corner block type of situation, also has a fixed zoom + wide angle recording all the time. I went the trackmix because it eliminated having to have another camera at the door.

      • Hi @bargunhunta.

Curious why you say it is best used on a corner block?

I'm planning on retrofitting mine to a location in the middle of the front of the house, ostensibly to capture both a good wide view of the premises, but with the capacity for the close-up zoom lens to track anyone approaching the house, and specifically the slightly recessed front door. You've now got me contemplating whether a better usage may be to stick a 180 degree Duo on one corner and the Trackmix on the opposing corner to get some overlap and the best of both worlds. Only thing that remains would be where to position my ColorX to ensure decent visibility once the lights go down…

        Thoughts welcome…

        • +1

I have a trackmix on the left corner of my house to capture the driveway and people approaching the door and a CX810 at the door facing the street and people going towards the door.

The issue I have with my trackmix is that we live on a long narrow block. So whenever the trackmix tracks a vehicle or person, it over-rotates into the deadzone of the neighbors house or the garage. The trackmix also fails to change tracking from a vehicle to a person: for instance, postie van arrives, the trackmix locks on, but won't re-lock onto the postie who gets out and walks to the front door because it is stuck on the vehicle. I watched plenty of videos on youtube about the trackmix and the people who lived on a large block, and who had it mounted on the corner of the house, could get great coverage from an almost 270 degree angle. If you have neighbours close-by, you'll find you really only get 180 degrees coverage at best.

I love the CX810, the full colour at night is super crisp and useful when identifying vehicles and clothes. Given the Duo's go on sale quite often, and depending on the size of your block etc, a duo in the middle of the house and a colourx somewhere adjacent might be ideal. You can also search the reolink sub on reddit, there is a lot of good info, and I actually posted an aerial of my block and asked for recommendations, plenty of people were helpful

Showing as $150 for me? Really WTB but couldnt get cheaper price last time this was posted either..

    • +3

Looks like price increased from $79 US to $108 before coupons, likely as a result of selling out of a modest number of reallocated units.

If previous AliExpress sales are any guide, keep checking over coming days and it will likely go on sale price again as stock is replenished.

      • +2

It was US$70 a few days ago before coins and cashback. A shame that deal didn't get many votes. Too many missed out.

        • Any way to monitor for price drops with live notifications for a particular item apart from manually checking regularly?

        • Yep, that was a good deal too - thanks - although equally short-lived. At under US$65 after the AliExpress coin and coupon lucky dip, the price of this deal was ATL. Hopefully stock returns at an equally good price.

          • +3

@UncleRico: If there's a particular model you're after I can ask AliExpress for a price drop.

            • @Clear: You’re a good man of taste and influence!

Thanks for the offer. I’ve got a bad habit of collecting cams for no good reason already, having collected a couple more CX810’s and this 830A in the past couple of days to add to my half a dozen existing spares. Just waiting for a decent NVR bundle so I can pair them up for a fourth system, once I figure out which family member needs one. In recent months, Reolink deals have been harder to come by with the standard coins discount dropping from 10-11% to 3-4% and their starting prices increasing in concert with a dropping dollar.

Out of interest, as someone who obviously keeps an eye on Reolink deals, what cams are you using with your own system?

              • +1

@UncleRico: Surprisingly I'm not in the Reolink ecosystem. I managed to score a free Dahua NVR with a few turret cameras and using that currently. I have expanded it with a few Imou cameras picked up dirt cheap. The Knight is one of my favourites outside the shed.

                • @Clear: Cheers. All the more thanks for your deals since it turns out you’re not even into the gear yourself.

                  Appreciated…

  • I'm struggling to find the place to enter the coupon. Ideas?

    • When you gonto checkout, just before you finalise it gives a tally of total price and discoints, and just under there is text / area to enter code/coupon.

  • +5

Worth noting this cam is HUGE. Also weighs a tonne compared to my other cameras. If you are looking for something subtle this ain't it. If you want something that sticks out like dogs balls however… it seems well made - successfully got it working with Frigate on Home Assistant but took a bit of work.

    • +2

Can you share the RLC-830A part of your yaml/yml?

    • I had a he'll of a time trying to mount my Trackmix tip-toed on a step ladder above head height. It would've been painful to watch and 30 sec to fix lol

EDIT: 1 screw partially entered is not sufficient .PTSD over the mid air snatches I pulled off

    • Being visible is a big part of detering criminals. I think my house was the only one on the street that didnt get stolen packages as I had white cameras on a brown brick house in very obvious spots. You don't have to be secure, just more hassle than the next house over.

      • yep, back in the 1990's the biggest and most successful upgrade my parents did to their business was add fake security cameras. theft plummeted to almost zero.

      • Not in brisbane. Here the young lads smile and wave.

  • +1

Do they work with Dahua / hkvision?

    • It is ONVIF and RTSP compatible, so it is very likely.

  • +4

Man, was the Ali express site created by a schizophrenic.
    Gave up trying to order.

    • +1

If you have the patience to get through it (and wait for the long shipping times) there are some insane deals on there.

      • With Reolink, most of their items ship from Sydney, so shipping times are fantastic, even when ordered through AliExpress. You can always tell the locally shipped items because they don’t have any additional amount listed for GST under tax.

      • Not sure whether it's my ranking on their store but I rarely get a parcel slower than 2 weeks.

    • Aliexpress ,,, I 'll think twice now…. Bought many items in the past ..It was all good up until my last item, which took 2.5 months deliver with incorrect power plug, They are ok to refund or replacement up on return, which can take another 4 monts( 2months for return & another 2 months for the replacement)

      • In my experience the return goes to an Australian warehouse and takes around a week.

  • Does this support RTSP streaming to my synology NVR?

    • Yes, but it's not usually enabled by default

  • Man sweet deal, missed it though again blah

  • +1

Have this, good camera. But microphone is muffled due to being exposed to the elements for slightly over a year.

  • Good timing as currently finalising security cameras for the house. One of my mates highly suggested Dahua brand and advise that it is the number one brand in terms of security cameras specifically their new model https://www.securitywholesalers.com.au/product/dahua-dh-ipc-…. Would appreciate anyone’s thoughts around the brand and the model as compared to this one.

    • +1

Dahua is definitely one of the global leaders in this space, and their top-end cameras are among the best available to consumers.

Reolink is popular in places like OzBargain because it's excellent value - their hardware and feature sets are usually comparable to cameras that are far more expensive, and you can get 90% of the performance for 50% of the price.

But if you have plenty of money to spend and you want the best, Dahua definitely has better performance, particularly in low-light situations.

      • Awesome, thanks for the detailed advice. So you mean a security system that I am currently getting for $1600 with four cameras with Dahua, I can get the same from ReoLink around $800?

        • +1

          Here's a recent example for illustration: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/896160

This kind of deal is rare and has it's own trade-offs (see the thread on that deal for details) but it's amazing value.

          • @klaw81: Yeah, best deal in recent months, but the trade offs (no AI or pet detection, no local SD card storage, no unique IDs on the bundled cameras so you can't use them without the NVR or with another system) really cripple them. Much better off with one of the AliExpress deals with the full fledged cam models with the "A" suffix like this sadly expired one www.ozbargain.com.au/node/876228 if they ever return to from their recent price hikes.

@Clear volunteered above to go into bat with AliExpress/Reolink to see if he can work his magic on a discount for particular products, so I might see if I can find a value NVR combo that he can hit them up for a potential discount to stack with their current promo…

            • +1

@UncleRico: I totally agree that the Costco system is gimped in a few ways that would bother advanced users, but fine for the average consumer who just wants to set their cameras to 24/7 recording and walk away.

I hope Clear comes through with a sweet discount on the better models - I really like the 833A in particular.

              • @klaw81: Yeah, I take your point, since some of the features really only come to life if you add your own POE switch to run them through, which is something many wouldn't bother with. I understand them wanting them crippled so you can't get their cams cheaply and repurpose them in another system, but the the AI omission and absence of a secondary SD card slot for localised storage is poor.

But the biggest reason for not wanting a bundled 4, 6 or 8 cam setup is that it removes the capacity fo take a horses for courses approach. Reolink have a great range or wide angle, night vision, pan/tilt/zoom cams in a range of bullet, turret and dome housings which provide great flexibility. Most of their packs with entry-level cams which lack many of the best features, including lighting and audio - so really should be complemented by more fully featured cams in key areas. In my opinion…

I've tagged @Clear in the post below, so hopefully he'll be able to investigate a further discount. I do like the 833A too (although I wish they'd incorporate some of the ColorX nightvision feature set into a turret cam), so would be happy if he'd start off with your product request rather than my convoluted one below.

    • +1

Would appreciate anyone’s thoughts around the brand and the model as compared to this one.

I forget to respond to the 2nd part of this request……

The camera in this deal is a bit unusual - it's an motorised pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera that is capable of recognising and automatically tracking subjects as they move around within a designated area, zooming in as required so the subject fills the frame. The purpose of such a mechanism is to get the most detailed possible image of a person/animal/vehicle while it's within the target area. However, this type of camera comes with a few trade-offs:

      1. The camera is controlled by electric motors and is physically quite large, and not entirely silent. This means they are both visually and audibly intrusive in a way fixed cameras usually aren't (this one is almost 250mm tall)
      2. This type of camera tends to be rather expensive (although the one in this deal is remarkably cheap).
      3. The camera can be "distracted" and have tunnel vision on a single subject it tracks, while other activity is occurring elsewhere.

In short, PTZ cameras have their uses and are excellent for monitoring large areas where only one thing is happening. But I wouldn't want one mounted just outside my bedroom in a suburban neighborhood.

The Dahua camera you linked is a pretty standard, high quality prosumer-grade fixed lens turret camera. It has no motorization or zoom - you just point it at the area you want monitored, and record what it sees.

      • +1

        Excellent summary.

Also worth noting that the 830A is not a true PTZ cam, since it lacks the Zoom aspect.

Its fully fledged big brother, the auspicious Trackmix, incorporates two lens. One of which provides the wide angle shot and the second of which is target-centric and zooms in, thus offering some protection against the distraction piece. Best of all, it only takes up one spot on your 8/16/32 cam limit NVR, but provides two feeds - one for each lens, using one of the free 4 bonus channels offered on Reolink NVR's. This seldom documented feature is essentially so that Trackmix, Duo 2 & 3 and some solar battery cams can be added to your NVR without gobbling up all of your available channels.

  • If you're around, @Clear - you asked earlier about any Reolink products that you could try and source a better discount on.

    Whilst not as good as the above deal since the dollars fallen and they've raised their prices on AliExpress in recent months, the following Reolink gear looks to me to be the bang for buck sweet spot of the current AliExpress Anniversary sale;

    US$155.86 - 8 channel NVR @ www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005391297462.html
    US$111.24 - 2 x 810A bullet or 820A turret 8mp cams - www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001631342561.html
    US$87.20 - 8mp Duo 2 - with 180 degree wide angle dual lens - www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006844468185.html

It comes to US$354.30 before coupons AUAS75 for US$50 off and REOLINK1799 for US$20 off plus a further $10-11 off in coins if you've got them minus any cashback credit for clicking through from CashRewards and/or using their current inhouse Cashback program.

Should land at US$274 or AU$436 before any cashbacks and would be a great three camera base to add a coupon ColorX or Trackmix cams to depending on your needs. It's slightly more than the above deal, but the Duo 2 is a great wide-area camera with LEDs and two way audio/alarms making it a better option than the 2 x 810A/820A's you'd forfeit from the previous deal. You could even add a CX410 (4MP nightview) and CX810 (8mp nightview - better res but worse in darkest areas) at - www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007400005315) for US$58 and US$70 respectively and qualify for bigger discount coupons (AUA120 for US$70 off $469+ and REOLINK1800 for US$40 off $399+) and coins for around $US80/AU$130 more and you'd have a great 5 cam setup with a variety of different cams for most purposes…

EDIT - And since that's all so terribly convoluted, feel free to ignore it all chalk me up for a vote for @klaw81's above request to see if you can have any joy with the 833A, ideally as a single or dual pack.

  • +2

@Clear @UncleRico any chance of something close to this deal with the 4 820a cams: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/876228

    • Please @Clear

    • That's a tough one with all the coin discounts and stuff. I'm working on getting another NVR with a 2TB HDD cheaper.

    • +1

TBH, if @Clear manages a further discount on a standalone NVR, I’d be inclined to grab it and personalise a mix of different cams so you can setup some “horses for courses”. Seldom does a one size fits all approach to cams yield the best outcome.

An NVR, alongside the discounted 833A, this 810A if it goes back on sale, one or two CX410 or CX810’s, a Duo 2 and a doorbell in one transaction may only cost you a hundred-ish more if you max out coins and coupons, but would be a much more capable system than one featuring 4 x base model 810A or 820A’s.

      • US$125.86 for the 8CH 8MP NVR with 2TB HDD is probably the best price it can go to right now.

        • Still a great price, and with coins it drops a further $4 - albeit 2tb won’t go far, so a bigger harddrive should be on the agenda for anyone who wants more than a week’s retention.

          Thanks again.

Totally agree with this approach. Mix and match is always more likely to get a good result, although it can be a little more complex and perhaps a little more expensive
