70

"We're offering our 550 GB usenet blocks (counting the 10% header allowance) for just $18. We're also offering our Unlimited usenet accounts for $7 per month. The sales last until 12 AM on January 4."

That's about 3 pm AEDST January 5 in Australia.

I know it's a recurring sale and I copped some stick last time for posting it from someone, but for those who aren't signed up to the newsletter you might be interested.

Everyone quick, jump onto the sinking ship :D

  • After the close down of nzbmatrix, the use of usenet is really a pain. I won't buy any usenet block before I can find any good alternative.

Indexing sites aren't such a problem. There are plenty of alternatives out there (see thread on Whirlpool).

The bigger problem is incomplete articles as a result of take-down notices.

      • Which can be basically avoided by getting a backup block account from an EU provider…

        • Any suggestions on a EU provider for block accounts?

Would you uses thus as your primary source or would you have it setup as a backup in sabnzbd?

        • tweaknews.eu seems to be good (and offers a free 10GB / 10 day trial).

Anyone know how fast NewsGroup Direct are at taking down files?

        • Yeah tweaknews are good, I use them as one of my backups. I have a 'free' usenet through Internode so no point paying for another one to be my primary when I can just use cheap blocks from others. Your situation would be different though.

          After the 10 day / 10 GB free sign-up, they offered a good deal (11 Euro normally 30) on a 250GB block

      • This is the thread you are referring to - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2030221

I haven't followed it in since it hit part 2.

As for take downs, funnily enough, I have had no issues since matrix folded.
Some of the stuff I get (sporting events)would be taken down within a couple of minutes, now they are still available days later.

        • +1

Yeah me neither, It was nothing to do with NZBMatrix going down (lots of confusion there) it was just a lightning strike of usenet take downs which caused the issue, but it appears (to me) to be a one off week of destruction. Everything since seems to come down complete.

The No Invites thread was a bit more interesting
          (part 3 here) http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2033196

The 80% "send me an invite" postings in the other thread was annoying.

        • Not sure what has contributed to it, but glad I can get my events without having to sit on the refresh button when I roughly new the event would be uploaded (RSS auto download would often result in being too late)
I was on matrix one other that closed the week before ( I used it so little i can’t remember the name).

Re WP, good to see, yes I was getting sick of the constant requests for invites to sites that were not offering invites.
People that will only read one or two posts above rather than at least one page back for info drive me nuts.

When I heard nzbmatrix was shut down I was shocked….that people were still using that rubbish.
