I was looking for a thunderbolt/USB-C dock and this seems a good price and well featured. I also like the .8m tethered length and its own power supply (ie. doesn't take up USB-C port) - more usable than many tethered docks.

Use Code FEB10 to get $87.98 delivered. Cashrewards, Shopback offer 4.1-3.6%. Maybe others are similar.

This is marked as Ex-Lease. It is selling for $150 or more elsewhere (including new and refurbished).

Dell says "Before using the docking station, ensure that your system has a DisplayPort (Supported) or Thunderbolt port (Recommended) over USB Type-C designed to support the docking station."

I have read it works with Macs, albeit note display restrictions that might apply. One link is: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000124312/dell-thun…

Fantastic dock. Has thunderbolt which can support three full HD displays.

Can confirm these do work with Macs as well if anyone is interested.
Using one right now on my M2 MBP.

    • How many additional screens does it support though?

      • I only use 1x ultra-wide tbh, so not sure if it would run a 2nd one.

        • It should, with the restriction as mentioned in OP

The 2 x DP and 1 x HDMI are shared. Connect 1 display to any of these 3 ports.

For the second screen, get yourself a USB C to HDMI/DP, and use the rear TB port. You'll then get 2 x Extended Screens. If you use any 2 of the DP/HDMI ports, you'll get 1 Extended, and 1 Mirrored display.

I run this dock with a 16inch MBP M1Pro. I also do the same with the newer WD22TB4 dock at home.

        • Second this, was just about to comment the same. I'm running 34" and 27" QHD monitors and I'm using a DP to USB-C for one of them.

But yes, fantastic dock. Tonnes of them at my work, very solid.

    • I'm mostly Windows/Linux but have recently got a Macbook - so you just plug the Macbook into this thing with USB-C to USB-C and then this thing into your monitor via thunderbolt/HDMI/DP?

      • Correct, works fine. I'm currently doing:
MBP USB-C -> Dock. Dock USB-C -> Monitor USB-C and it works fine.
Then everything else is plugged into the dock as per normal, lan, keyboard mouse etc etc.
Just one cable to the laptop and that's it, charge, display etc.

      • Yes, I go between Windows and Apple devices and it's just a simple plug it into the USB C port on your Mac and works.

You still have the limitations of the Mac for external dispalys if you have the base model though. Otherwise, I've run multiple hi-res displays off this on my M3 Pro Macbook Pro

        • Mine's just an Air, I assume that will still work? Looking to hook it to one 4k display, it's less than clear from what I can find whether this will work ok.

On my M1 Pro MBP to get dual 4k @ 60Hz this dock needs one monitor on the DP connected ports (ie the usb c, hdmi or DP port) and the second monitor on the TB port as per the Dell multi monitor info page.

Even when doing this one of my monitors would often detect at 30Hz even with the latest dock firmware. I found out by trial and error that connecting to the dock with one monitor off, letting the first monitor detect at 4k/60Hz then turning on the second monitor, it would reliably detect the second monitor at 4k/60Hz instead of 4k/30Hz. I can't remember which of the 2 monitors (TB or DP connected) needs to be off for this to work.

I have since replaced with a dell wd22tb4 and it doesn't have this issue. I just plug it in and it detects both monitors correctly every time.

if only it was thunderbolt 5 it would be useful to me lol.

  • What does the 19TB mean?

    • +1

      2019 model, Thunderbolt.

  • +2

Really good dock but very noisy - fan can go up in revs without any high performance task. Had it replaced by Dell with the same thing happened again so finally upgraded to CalDigit but it’s a different price tag.

    • +1

Make sure you update the fw. Mine is practically silent.

      • I’ve got rid of it long time ago and got myself a fanless CalDigit.
But funny thing is I’ve checked all the firmwares and updates for that 19TB, got even fan replaced from eBay, but it was so noisy. In the end, dock would complain in a “faulty fan” even when it’s spinning and all works fine. Used Dell branded laptop and 34” monitor. But for $90 delivered it cannot be wrong!

        • +1

We had a few docks at work that were noisy. No idea why. Dell replaced them eventually

    • +3

Weird, I've never heard mine spin up even with running networking, displays and external drives off of it.

      • +2

They have a common fault that causes the fan to ramp up constantly, I'm not 100% sure firmware fixes it, It's been a while since I dealt with one myself.

      • Maybe you’re lucky!

    • +5

I ripped the fan out of mine ~6 months ago, haven't had any dramas since. The rubber bottom gets warm to touch but thats it. The fan drove me insane.

      • Ahaha that’ll do!

    • +1

I mount mine under the desk using command strips which helps a lot with the noise

    • I opened mine up and cleaned out all the dust and it's stopped the fan spinning. Other options are to remove the fan and just put small heat sinks onto the VRM chips.

  • +1

When these work, they are ok, otherwise it's a nightmare. DELL has really quality control on these docks. At work I would say that it's about a 40% issue/fail rate with them.

    • +1

We had about 150 in our old office, and a lot of them came across during our move, 40% failure rate would be blowing it out of proportion.

      • not this precise model, but I'm about to return my second WD19DCS in as many weeks. Yes different model but they are very similar, and I think it would be fair to say a similar manufacture process and quality control. The fans in them go bust all the time and give warnings.

Just buy from someone who will take the returns when they inevitably fail.

        • Actually they're the same, the dock is modular and the TB/DCS/etc ends are swappable.

          • @dav3: nice. I needed the one with the twin USBC cables to allow it to supply sufficient power and also run 2 screens etc - I believe this is what 'DC' means.

non stop issues with the fans. I assume they can be swapped out (the fans) but this shouldn't be necessary for these high spec items.

updated all firmware, power cycled etc everything I could find online to fix, but seems its a hardware not software or driver issue.

Disappointing because otherwise a great item.

            • @kgem: Yeah DCS is dual USB-C ports for 210W+ power requirements (or whatever the spec is), you'd need to have a fairly beefy device to need one.

    • Yeah, for us they consistently almost never work (maybe 10% of the time) with 2x 27" monitors which I don't think is too extreme a use case in this day and age… especially when the dock cost $300+ brand new and you'd expect it to be premium.

  • For anyone who has this, can you please comment on the width of the tethered cable?
If you are using with a device such as the M1 MacBook Pro, can you use the second USB-C port on the laptop with the dock plugged in?
I have been in some hot desk environments where there were Dell docks (can't comment on the model) and the tethered cable meant you could not use your second USB-C port of the device.

    • +2

Dell Latitude 7320 here - its 2nd USB-C port works when docked. Just tested with a phone and got data + power.

WRT to the width of the dock cable, it's marginally wider than a regular USB-C cable end.

    • +1

Its thin. Thinner than a usb A connector. You could probably plug in a usb c cable, but probably not a usb c memory stick due to the close ports.

My M1 Pro MBP has another usb port on the right hand side, so I would use that.

Also once you are connected to the dock, you can use the dock's usb ports.

      • The UCB-C ports on the M1 Pro are really close together. For example, have a look at this image lifted from Reddit, you can't plug in 2 adapters.
I use a USB-A to C adapter to plug in the dongle to my headset and I like to leave that in one of the USB-C slots so I don't forgot to take it out of my dock.
The last Dell dock I tried could not fit in an adapter and the Dell dock. The lenovo dock however had no such problems as the USB-C was thinner.

  • Sold out.

  • damnit! need one

  • dang. this is just what I've been looking for.

    • +2

Can get them on ebay for around $90. I got one last year.

  • Do these support two external displays from like a Microsoft Surface 4.
It doesn't have thunderbolt, just usb-c.
Hoping to use something like this for both a MacBook and Surface 4.

    • Yeah, keen to know this as well. I don't think it'll work on Surface 4. Happy to be corrected!

  • Back in stock. Says 17 units available. Delivery price seems higher than listed in OP. But could be reading something wrong.

edit: Missed the coupon code somehow.

  • +1

It is back in stock, although shipping has increased from 12.99 to 16.99.

  • Had a lot of problems with these, mostly when paired with 54xx Dell laptops (5410-5450).

They can't seem to handle outputting to 2x 27" monitors, one will force down to less than native res no matter what drivers, firmware and updates are installed for both laptop and dock.

The D6000 on the other hand have been mostly perfect.

    • I'm running a 4k and 1440p monitor off one now with no issues, pretty sure they do at least 2x 4K fine

      • Hmm. It's strange, but any time I had the problem I swapped out the dock for a D6000 and it worked instantly. What's your laptop?
It might be related to the lower end onboard graphics in the laptop range we use I suppose.

  • +1

This dock will do 120hz 4k with DSC using the usb c thunderbolt output connected to my screen (can't speak for the other display connectors cause I don't need to use them). Bought second hand a couple years ago and never had issues with it

  • aaaannnnddd its gone.

  • There is still some WD19s - not sure of the difference - https://www.mydeal.com.au/dell-universal-usb-c-dock-docking-…

    • That is a non-Thunderbolt dock, also has no 3.5mm audio, and will be fine for many people.

  • Slightly cheaper on ebay, $83 delivered: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/315502262821
