Rock solid docking station for a good price.

Needs a firmware update for well known fan and connection issues. Not all of them are sorted still for sure.

Oh important point. You MUST have a windows machine with full admin access to update it

      • @Larsson Does the “full admin windows machine” have to be the same machine that the docking station is docking to ?

EG: Work lappy that will use docking station with limited access but have full access on my PC.

I wouldn't call any Thunderbolt/USB-C docks from either of the big three OEMs (Dell, HP or Lenovo) "rock solid".

They all have intermittent connectivity issues where some/all peripherals or the Ethernet adapter disconnects randomly, issues with attached laptops not being detected until they're restarted (especially when docking/undocking frequently), fan noise issues, overcharging/overvoltage issues which can cause premature battery wear and/or hardware failures on attached laptops, constant firmware updating issues where updates will fail repeatedly for no good reason, on top of the fairly high failure rates of the TB/USB-C docks themselves (the external power supply bricks are usually the weakest links as many of them are outsourced to 3rd-party manufacturers).

The last time OEM docking stations were rock solid was back in the port replicator/hardware-based dock days with proprietary connectors.

Have tried 3 of these and they're temperamental. Frequently have to unplug the power pack from the dock otherwise peripherals won't wake, or issues where the firmware reports that the fan has failed, only holding down the dock button to reset will fix it. I've even unscrewed the end socket module and reseated to try and make them work properly.

They all do it enough that I dislike them, and it doesn't seem to matter what computer it is plugged in at the time.

It seems to be more economical and convenient to buy screens with daisy chaining now for office use, although it's not that common. I'm currently trying the Dell P2724DEB chained to a P2723DE. Only one USB C cable from the laptop to the first screen which is chained via Display port to the second screen, the second screen also needs to chain its USB, but then you have 7 USB ports, Ethernet, Webcam, Sound bar, Array Mic and 90-watt charging, I think it's the future for a lot of office scenarios seeing as you get all that off the screen as well as the laptop being charged. There are also 120Hz options.

Get a C13 IEC splitter with an extension and then you're only using one mains socket too, no more cable management boxes or docks at every station. It certainly makes it much tidier. The main screen has built in KVM if you need that also. Though they only charge at 90 watts even Surface Studios that are 120 watts seem to be happy, albeit with a slower charge notification.

  • I've got one of these for the office & home for my M2 Mac, and it works "somewhat" well for that.
Every now and again, let's say maybe 1 in every 20 times I plug it in, the screen doesn't wake up. So have to unplug it, wait a few sec and plug it back in.
Other than that works well, and would recommend them as well.

    • I was going to post something almost identical to this.
Awesome product, just a couple hiccups with sleep state once in a while on one monitor.

Great for work though, I run 2 x 2K@60Hz on the work laptop

    • Is firmware the latest? If not, pls update it

  • -2

    Only support 60Hz though

    • Link us one with proper 120-144hz support lmao

      • Yeah I'm keen to know if there are better docks that support higher refresh rates with decent number of ports

        • 4K 120hz bandwidth is 32gbps, Thunderbolt 4 is 40gbps, hard to add any other additional display ports if you have 4K 120hz, gotta wait for TB5 for 80gbps

    • I have this dock and run it from my work laptop (which has TB ports) and I run two monitors:

      • 27inch 165hz 1440p
      • 24 inch 60hz 1200p

Works perfectly. I know the resolution table only lists 60hz, but if you aren't using the full bandwidth it lets you set higher refresh rates.

  • Pretty good specs and number of ports.

Got a couple of these, find going refurbished or office seconds is a lot cheaper

    • @lolmanic That’s what I did but my HP is starting to have monitor issues even with a firmware update :(

  • Does it work with Lenovo?

    • Depends which one. You'll need USB-C that supports display or Thunderbolt.

      • I have the Yoga Pro 7 Ryzen AI

Which would be AMD, which would mean you don't have thunderbolt. So prob not worth getting this dock

          • @KenjiAU: Ah. So it's an Intel thing eh? Cool Thank you for your advice.

            • +1

@Lesco Brandon: Yeah, mainly Intel. Reasonably rare on AMD systems.

I would only be buying this dock for a device with Thunderbolt. I use mine mainly with a macbook pro.
