bought one during xmas and love it. now my garage door is named sesame XD

    • Great minds think alike

My one is called “Garage”. I’m boring.

  • How hackable are these.

    • +1

It's as safe as your network. If you're worried about people getting into your house via your garage, place a lock on your 'garage to house' door.

  • Does the job but in my experience it does disconnect from the network at least once a month and requires a hard reset.

    • Me too, maybe it's because it's 2.4Ghz and wifi router compatibility etc etc.
I just put a cheap timer on mine, to hard-reset at 3am.
Not an elegant fix (meross might want to update a software solution for a timed hard-reset) but it does the job

    • I had that issue back when I had a TP-LINK router, ever since I changed over to the gli.net flint, no issues with needing to be reset.

    • I got the original one for my house and it's been flawless. I got a good deal on the homekit model and installed it at my parents and it's been absolute shite. Both setup the same way through the Android app. Thinking of buying another OG and swapping the other out.

    • It's probably the signal, my study is opposite the garage and the signal is sti pretty bad there, but enough to not disconnect

    • Haven't had this problem myself, it just keeps on working nicely

  • Why is there a $47 version?

    • That one doesn’t have HomeKit support

      • ah i see… if i use google home then i suppose i can use the $47 one… thanks

  • Can i make it work with apple home + google home + alexa all at once or only one home kit per device?

    • Mine is setup with apple and alex

    • Mine is set up with Apple and Google (but mainly use Apple 99% of the time)

    • Thanks heaps

  • Anyone curious for someone’s opinion - it’s great! Never had it disconnect since installing it 6 months ago. Router is relatively close (<10m), HomePod probably <15m. It’s as quick as the actual door remote. Genuinely, can’t fault it. I have it hooked up to the Chamberlain double roller door opener from Bunnings. Can’t comment on how hackable it is but I’d assume equal to or better than the standard remote. I don’t recommend the Meross smart power point things as all of mine failed within 18months but, so far, this seems great.

  • If you are associated with meross and reading this , please improve app performance for time taken to tap and take an action to open the garage.
Most of the times it won't work in first tap , both on ios and android

    • on iOS you should be having it set up with HomeKit, much better anyway.

    • On Android I always have to refresh the app to get the true state of the door - it always loads with the door being open, which it isn't.

  • Has anyone installed these outside? I have a classic roller door to ROW scenario, basically with no weatherproofing - just an external power outlet attached to the roller door. I'm wondering if I can attach a little weatherproof box somewhere for the device, or if that's going to be more trouble than it's worth..

    • +1

i have a diff smart switch in one of these, i just put everything in there

Use same GPO as the roller door and a cheap double adaptor.

Just velcro / tape the meross until upside down under the rollerdoor unit (rain doesn't come from the ground up).

Or get a box like huu suggested.

      • Hmm, might have to get a weather proof double adapter or something, because I don't think there's much in the way of protection for the powerpoint itself… (if there is such a thing haha). Will have an investigate and see what I can find. Thanks for the tips!

  • Is this worth installing in a rental? As-in is it easy to install and then remove when we move out?

    • +1

You could use velcro strips instead of screws for the sensors, everything else is removable.

      • Does it come with Velcro strips or would I need to buy my own?

        • You would have to buy your own.

    • +1

Hey, I had one for 2 years in a rental no issues. Just use painters tape/velcro strips. It's a garage so marks on walls etc are far less important.

      • Thanks! not so worried about the mounting, more the wiring it in.

        Thanks for the info!

    • +1

      Yes, yes and yes.

  • I have one of these from a previous deal and recently had a smart light switch installed in garage.

How can I set this up with google that when the garage door opens the light switch turns on for 5 minutes?

    • +1

      I'd keep them independent.

Scenario : you're in the garage (not opening the garage door) and just want the lights on to find something in the car / do some woodwork in the garage, etc.

I have it hardwired, sensor always on. The 'switch' for the light toggles the sensor only (ie. Sensor on, or light always on)

      • You could do both. Routines the door sensor to turn the light on and off, should be able to set a timer, then also have a motion sensor which triggers the light as well?

I have my garage door open - light on, closed - light off atm

        • The PIR (motion sensor) will do both functions - the light will be triggered with ANY motion trigger (eg. human walking int he garage, car reversing in or out of the garage - and of course you would need the garage door triggered for this).

  • This has been working well, haven’t installed the sensor but good as just a backup remote on the phone

  • I got a 'smart garage door opener' from ebay for $19 which does the same. Had it a year & works great also linked it to google home.
