    • Yeah getting that too

      • Which plan did you go with? I am pretty sure mine is not excluded - "Basic Everyday Starter"

        • OK nvm, looks like they've changed the inclusions.

Excludes Basic cover, Corporate covers, Hospital only cover, Extras only cover, Accident Cover, Overseas Visitors Health Cover, Overseas Workers Health Cover, Overseas Students Health Cover (OSHC), Ambulance Cover, ahm covers, and other selected covers

    • not the Promo error but buying online just doesnt work:
      An error has occurred.
We're sorry, the server has encountered an error processing your request. Please try again.

      • changed to monthly payments and it went through… WTF

    • I'm getting this too- I picked Medibank Bronze Plus Progress and Healthy Start Extras and added the promo code but gave me the same "Promo code not applicable." error

      • Looks like they've fixed it- promo code now works.

  • Is it easy to do this then change to corporate cover in a couple of months?

    • +1

      See The right to change.

However, why you would change to so-called 'corporate cover' and stay there is another question. You would only stay if your employer was paying for the cover or reimbursing you.

If you are paying, there is no way that corporate cover will save you more than churning. Corporate cover will give you a discount off the public rates.

      What's your question, in English?

      • Now that I read it again it's not quite clear in short will there be any waiting period. Bupa clearly states it will be waived off but this doesn't

        • +1

2&6 month waits waived on extras terms: 2&6 month waiting periods on extras waived. Other waiting periods apply (including 12 months on some dental services). Annual limits apply. If you're switching from another fund and you’ve used any of your current limits (at that fund), that will count towards your annual limits with us. If you've reached your limits at your previous fund you may not be able to claim straight away on extras.

  • If i churn during calendar year from insurance A, which I have used $200 optical limit, when I churn to insurance B, will it deduct $200 for the optical limit, or will I get another optical limit fully from insurance B?

    • +1
      • tl;dr "On transfer, insurers can reduce any annual benefit limits by the amount of benefit already paid to you under your previous policy during that year."

  • @YesPleaseThankYou

Is this as good as Medibank offers get?

Seems to be the best option out there at the moment?

    • Pretty much - I tend to focus on the best discount rather any ancillary benefits like points and gift cards.

For this reason, I have signed up to see-u, pending any better deal.

      • Cheers for this!

Out of interest, I went to pay for my glasses yesterday and forgot my Hicaps card. Just paid for it, will claim back.
However, if I move to Medibank today. In theory, my clearance cert will have no optical on it. Once that is served, then I submit the claim with previous provider (as they were covering me at the time). Then I guess they either serve a new cert? or might slip through? or can I not claim once I move?

Cant see the gov allowing the latter..

You should receive an amended transfer certificate (which may also be provided by your old fund to your new fund). I have been in a similar circumstance and provided the amended transfer certificate to the new fund.

Taking advantage of promotional offers is fine. Using gaps in the insurers' process for advantage is, in my view, not fine.

You can certainly claim from your old insurer, even though your policy has since been terminated. However, each insurer has fund rules which usually place a time limit on how far back you can claim. Search for your fund name and 'fund rules' to locate that document.

  • Does Bupa gives pro-rata refund without me calling them if i churn to this mid-month?

  • Basic question, we are family of 4 with 2 kids under 6yrs. I think, all these churning deals are for Hospitals + Extra. Currently we only have hospital with HCF (from last 13 odd years). as you can see we haven't been churning (our loss i reckon). On another front, i am not sure about the benefits yet of having extra. what others use extra for effectively through these type of deals, I am assuming some of the extras will have out of pocket as well…

    appreciate any thoughts

      Almost all such offers, yes.

as you can see we haven't been churning (our loss i reckon)

      Correct.

On another front, i am not sure about the benefits yet of having extra.

At the very least, when you have hospital and extras combined policies (and churning), you will be paying less for the combined policy than if you only held the hospital policy. See my previous comment about this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15076041/redir

On another front, i am not sure about the benefits yet of having extra

The benefits are self-evident—read the policies and what you can claim. Your family doesn't do dental check-ups 6-monthly or need glasses?

      • @YesPleaseThankYou, thanks for your reply and your previous comments. I am reading/ re-reading some of them to make sense for my scenario. You make good point around dental check-up's etc…..So answer is we don't do now, however I am thinking we should and as kids grow it might be needed. So surely a user case there…We never had extras, are there any out of pocket costs (Dental is mainly we will use)

back to actual calc…….we are on HCF standard silver plus ($255 monthly), I compare similar hospital cover with extras policy with medibank turns out 'Medibank Silver Plus Core and Top Extras' (monthly $367/weekly 84.62). So applying that to 6 weeks + 42 days (Total 12 weeks ~ 3 months)….

        HCF = 3 months *255 = 765 out of pocket
        Medibank = 6 weeks * 84.62 + 6 weeks free = 507.72 out of pocket

        Summary:
With medibank we are better of by $257 amount (assuming we switch to other PHI right at the end of free period, may not be possible)
With medibank we get to use extras (I can't think apart from Dental we will use anything else)
With medibank, we have ignored the living points but I am sure they are worth something.

        thoughts??

        • +1

          may not be possible

Why may not be possible? There is always a deal.

we have ignored the living points but I am sure they are worth something

Good—consider them to be a bonus. Maybe use them for Amcal vouchers. Grab some shampoo, first-aid items, fragrances etc.

          thoughts??

If you can be disciplined, you should be churning.

PHI can be a significant expense and churning diligently at the end of each offer will save you $1000s.

Yes, you should be attending dental checkups, and yes you may have to pay out of pocket, but you may not.

          • @YesPleaseThankYou: thanks. I will dig little into out of pocket cost for extras. I am thinking it will be different for all policies.

          • @YesPleaseThankYou: @YesPleaseThankYou, interesting turn. Called HCF and they offered us 6 weeks free this year (later this year 2025) and another 6 weeks same time in 2026. Yet to do numbers but might turn out to be same. Some thinking to do…

            • @s0805: You were offered a typical retention offer.

Before I tell you mine, what are your thoughts on this?

              • @YesPleaseThankYou: we are leaning to stay with them. Mind you this is for Hospitals only cover while all other offers are for hospitals+extras. Apparently from HCF (Not sure if its true), due to some government rules Health fund cannot offer more than 6 weeks free for customer every year….
