Come on Indian and quality should never be used in the same sentence. Shortcuts and corruption is more like it.

      • +2

Atleast they have an amazing space program, what do we have apart from 'I dig rock, I sell rock' skills?

        • +3

Tbh we do work with Nasa to this day and the dish in Canberra telecasted the moon landing (or some such along those lines). I know it's not "our own space program" but there's something on that front within the CSIRO.

      • Racist spotted

        • +3

Not more racist than Indians for sure.

        • +1

Indians calling others racist is akin to the pot calling the kettle Black. Way to hold up your caste system to the world…..

      • -1

and what do you bring to the table? hate and hysteria?

      • …but Chinese and quality is ok?

      • While true, who doesn't it apply for?
        Chinese?
        American?
        European?

You've got to be delusional to think the West isn't corrupt.

        IMO European are the worst.
Costs a fortune and more unreliable than Chinese/Indian.
I've had a 100% lemon rate on European products… including 2 cars + 10-20 household appliances all of which were more expensive than the average products in the category. That's far more dismal than my lemon rate on Chinese products which are cheaper than the average products in the category.

  • +2

Incredible value indeed no doubt. Only issue is the lack of ANCAP testing.

Compare this with a Chery Omoda 5 which has similar features and has sold well and has good dealer coverage. Plus it has 5 stars ANCAP safety rating.

So this really bothers me about Mahindra who have not bothered to do it despite having the xuv700 on the market for close to a year now.

    • +2

ANCAP is a leech on taxpayer money and they just copy paste Euro NCAP ratings. They should really just be decommissioned purely based on the amount of work they do vs how much it costs us.

  • +3

    Save $3000

With repairs and downtime costing beyond what’s being saved.

Maybe viable if you aren’t dependent on one car.

    https://www.drive.com.au/news/2023-mahindra-xuv700-recall-au…

I would caution against brands that have shaky safety history. Lots of recalls and yes can happen to multitudes of established brands like Subaru airbag etc. But in this case their primary export is subject to recalls.

    • +1

Not saying you are right or wrong. But I remember taking my 2011 Hyundai i30 to the dealer around 2018 for:

      • A recall about the airbag being able to spontaneously deploy
      • A recall about some electrical issue that could trigger a fire even if the ignition was off
      • A fuel leak after every bowser visit due to the fuel filler hose disintegrating after ~7 years on that model (known issue)

There had been a few other recalls prior, including for ESC warning lights coming on for no reason.

Nowadays, it seems all cars have heaps of issues. There is no manufacturer that doesn't have them, it seems.

    • +1

I had to take my Subaru Liberty to the car dealer twice for recall. Recalls are common nowadays.

    • I'm here for the useless downvote lol

    • +5

Recall means that manufacturer has identified an issue and is willing to fix it. It's not necessarily a bad thing.

I would be more concerned if there are known issues with a car but manufacturer don't acknowledge and fix it.

      • +1

Perhaps person hasn't own a new car since Ford Pinto 🤣🤣

Ozbargain should change its name to OZcarbargain.

    • +1

      Better than OzNewTVShowOnAPaidStreamingPlatformRelasedBargain

      • Nah, I'd rather the latter.

  • +6

Do you want to get buried in a hurry? Buy Mahindra :D

    • I'll rather buy Tesla :)

  • Came across the brand in this video(youtu.be) … I'm impressed

  • I have this car from last 2 years and driver 45k above. I upgraded from Old outlander. This one has good punch and drives beautifully.

I have not faced any issues till now and its a great value. My friend has one model older then mine and that car is good condition with no fault.

For a 7 seater its a excellent value and service and repair by dealer is also hassle free.

  • Is this better than an used Pajero Sport?

    • How used? 100k driven?

      • Yes about that

    • -1

1 has an ANCAP safety rating, and the other is a coffin on stilts.

  • I'd only ever heard of this car watching Survivor South Africa as it was a prize on that show… never knew they were here.

    • +2

This really shows the difference in car brand perceptions around the world.

Here, indian and Chinese car makers are basically the last resort. There, it sounds like something people actually want

  • +1

Another day, another car deal/advert on ozbargain…

Almost all of the people giving this a "+ve" vote, haven't commented on deal.

This can only mean one thing…. They're all too busy trying to buy the 2024 Mahindra AX7!

    • +2

I think after the last 4 years let people have some joy by no longer feeling completely railed by car prices.

  • +3

I'd be very worried about this company existing in Australia for more than a few years. I'd really go Chinese over it, and I don't think all the Chinese companies will be here long term, though some will survive the gauntlet.

    • +3

They've been in Australia far longer than any Chinese company

      • +2

Oh yeah. Shows what I know.

  • Tit for tat every week

  • +2

I had no idea this brand had as many fanboys as byd

    • +5

Have you seen our immigration stats over the last few years?

  • +7

I work with a couple of Indians and their feedback on these cars was that if its not good enough for Indians, it will be good enough for Australians. I think that sums things up pretty well.

    • What if the person has dual citizenship?

  • -7

My mate Rakesh swears by his XUV. He vouches for its safety as well. I'd trust him over Ancap, any day.

  • +8

Everytime there is a Mahindra deal, the comment section does not dissapoint.

  • If I didn't have 3 cars already I would buy this definitely. Good solid brand.

    • Hotwheels?

  • +1

This might be close to the bottom of the list for this type of car since we have a plethora to choose from. Their other real 4wd looks ok though

    • +1

What other options were there in this $35k range?

  • -1

After all is said and done… ummm it's a pretty ugly car?

  • +5

I have no idea about reliability but I shall say this.. I have a modified Patrol on 35 inch tyres purely for offroading.. these guys make a vehicle called a Thar ..I think the design is based off a Jeep willy ..I went to South of India last year and took a ride in what can be described as pretty hairy settings by our standards in a 4 year old Mahindra Thar..that thing is a right beast off road without any mods..no lifts , no bigger tyres no extra clearance, no problem.. I also rode a city oriented vehicle made by the same manufacturer called a Scorpio and that was a cab which had done over 200,000 ks .. I never felt like it was in anyways inadequate as a passenger.. the roads in India are probably like minor offroading here.. if these things can survive on Indian roads and the dust … I doubt they will fail out here..but again ..I do not own one ..just wanted to share my experience ..looks like country of origin is a big issue for commenters .. it should not be .. no company be it BMW/Audi manufacturing in Thailand/SA or BYD in China or Mahindra in India ..no one will compromise on what they think is essential ..more so in a new market.. Moreover this is 2025 ..I don't think we have "lemons" anymore

  • ANCAP is a joke, seriously. Typical of a very outdated, slow-progressing government-funded body.

Cars coming to Australia will meet/pass/satisfy the ADR yet receive zero stars on ANCAP.

    Rather drive a zero-star 2024/2025 model SUV than a five-star 2014/2015 Yaris/Corolla/or any small/compact car.

  • -3

Another car brand that is just dumping its cars in Australia

  • +1

I am Silly but Not stupid $ 33.990 For Mahindra ????

    • maybe true because its not their flagship model, kinda like 2nd or 3rd tier, saw on the electric viking yt channel their new EVs like BE 6E which look impressive.

  • this model supposed to be called as SCORPION, they missed out the N during mass production.

    • No, it was always called Scorpio. The latest iteration is called Scorpio N (rather than Scorpion).

  • +1

I guess the real question is overall cost of ownership and with cliff edge depreciation I suspect the numbers don't work out unless it is considered a "lust to dust" purchase. 🤔

    More Chinese rubbish!

  • -2

    Beautiful car
    I want one

  • +1

It's looks like a Holden Captiva clone built in India. Since the Captiva was a Daewoo (a Mahindra level brand from Korea) then compare that as your apples to apples. You can get this in a 7 seater version for < $40K new.

It will depreciate very fast so don't look for much if any re-sale and drive it till it dies (Hopefully not within the first 7 years).

I'm no longer in the market for any ICE cars so my next one will be a BEV from China most likely.

Looking at the YT reviews it's an average mid-size SUV so don't set expectations higher than average.

    • Why BEV over ICE?
I'm looking to go back from Hybrid (2012) to ICE (seems hard to find now days).
Not looking at any form of EVs until their Batteries start falling in price to reasonable levels or their lifetime increases to 25 years.

      • For me it's the simplicity of EV cars and not having to fill them with petrol regularly. I've looked at my driving pattern over the last 5 yrs and 2x a year > 200km in one day and the rest is 50km or less city driving in a day. 100km/day weekend driving. With standard EV ranges 400kms or higher and me charging overnight > 98% of the time with Solar during the day I think of TCO being better.

Servicing is fixed price and the main complicated parts of motors and batteries are sealed.

The warranties are 6-10yrs now and that should find any 1st year type issues.

I don't work on my own cars and have no interest in mechanicals or getting under a car to change a hose or oil.

The only fluid is: washer fluid
Suspension: same as ICE cars (always done by a mechanic anyway)
Aircon: same as ICE cars (always done by a mechanic anyway)
Brakes: Always done by a mechanic anyway. Re-gen doesn't wear brakes out as much as standard ICE pads wear out anyway.
Tyres: ICE is often lighter so EV tyres wear out faster. Again I'll just take it to a tyre shop.

What I will say is that depreciation on BEVS is brutal and fast. But I don't think most ICE cars will 'hold' value like they used to. This will play out in the market over the next 3 yrs anyway.

        • But your numbers doesn't seem to take into account the battery lifetime and price.

I do less than 7000km / yr, so my petrol costs less than $1000/yr.

Battery lifetime is 10-15 yrs as I understand it. Over 15 yrs I would spend $15000 on petrol. Battery replacement will cost me around the same figure as my petrol cost over the same period. That hasn't even factored in the cost of the top ups. Even on solar you are spending your fit to charge the car (lost revenue).

Then there's the worry of the battery failing on me suddenly while on the road once the car is over 10 yrs old.

I won't consider EV again unless battery replacement comes down to around $4000 or less so it's still cheaper than the value of a 10yr old car, or the battery will last the lifetime of the car (which i think a reasonable figure is 250000km or 25 years).

Can not wait TATA EVModels launch in Australia. They are very affordable than others EVModels.

  • These things look horrible and dated. Rather buy a 2-3 year old second hand car over this. Even their FB groups have Rajesh and his cohort complaining about issues with it.

  • +2

Interesting to read they are having a run out sale when i have literally never heard of this brand.

  • -6

Wow so many Chinese cars flooding market

    • +7

      Except it's Indian

  • +3

Having seen how much abuse cars go through in India, especially in rural areas. I see them as a modern version of a 90's/2000's Prado.

These are going to be bland and boring to drive, with the trade off being mechanically simple and reliable.

  • +2

What's the dealer support network like? I'd never buy one but genuinly asking because their motorcycle dealer support network for Royal Enfield is non existant.
The chinese are not far behind either.

  • junk car

  • 7 seater, and great reviews. What's not to like? Might actually retire my 2009 car for this.

    https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-reviews/2024-mahindra-xuv70…

  • Fuel Economy 10.2L/100KM, that's okay.

  • Waiting for Mahindra XEV 9e to come to Australia.

This EV car has tons of features.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGUwsBIrHlQ&ab_channel=Autoc…

    • I watched the review. It's competing with BYD, Xpeng, Haval, MG at the same price point (21.3 lakh/40K AUD to 29 lakh INR = 53K AUD). I think it'll be sharply priced to make it. The mid-size SUV EV market is very crowded right now.

  • So no discount on the Black Edition?

  • Why not just get the Mitsubishi Outlander/Nissan X-Trail very similar in price and much more established brands?

  • Why don't they have a manual transmission option?

    • Lol. When the time comes you'd have a hard time passing off one in on the used market even if it were an automatic. Manual could mean a bloodbath in depreciation.

      • I guess I'm that 1% looking to pay a premium just to get manual. Thinking of importing a manual Audi A6 wagon from UK or just getting a manual 2015 Subaru Outback. I'm an old soul and would still prefer to change the gears myself. It makes complete sense from a user experience and reliability perspective.

        • I can empathise with that, but what's the point of a manual in a soccer mom car on stilts? This is not a wrx or a megane rs.

  • Any of you bought this car yet?

  • +3

I took a look at one of these last year. Was shocked to see how bad the build quality was. Car was brand new but window seals were perished, dashboard & interior plastics had faded (before rego!), couple of plastic panels were lying loose on the floor, there was water under the carpet (it was wet).
Very disappointing quality, but may suit some bargain hunters

  • i don't think this is expired yet. still seeing the offer. https://www.mahindra.com.au/special-offers

  • I’ll buy a Thar if they are allowed to sell here. Considering XUV sells for less here than India, Thar will be an amazing value at around $40,000.

    https://auto.mahindra.com/suv/thar-roxx/TH5D.html

  • the look of Mahendra is kind of Indian. not going into the specific because its sensitive. just like some of the Chinese brands like to have huge bold size logo ruining the overall look.
