Cheers!

I have the Scorpio Z8L, I'm not Indian so not a biased review. Solid car, had some software issues with the infotament system but after an update, it has been flawless.

It's very smooth and doesn't drink a lot of petrol for it's size. I needed a 4x4 so for the value and price, it's amazing.

Just my 2c for all the people just hating.

    • +1

I'm not Indian so not a biased review

Do you need to be from the country of manufacture to give a biased review? Pretty sure most of the fanbois of various products (Apple/Android/Tesla) giving biased reviews aren't all from China or the US where they're manufactured or owned.

Btw, good review of the car!

      • +4

Nah not really, but the majority of people of drive Mahindras are Indian due to their possibly love and support for the brand and country even.

I am quite impressed with the car, obviously it's not G Wagon impressed but for the money it probably is.

      • -1

Do you really think the Chinese defend Tesla?

    • Scorpio is diesel only. How did you manage to buy petrol Scorpio?

      • +2

Sorry I was meant to say, fuel. When I come from we call fuel petrol, silly but it's true.

  • -4

A brand so good even taxi drivers here don't want to use it

    • -2

One of my last Uber lifts was in a Mahindra, I'd never heard of the brand before but was impressed enough overall to look them up on the net afterwards to see how much they were selling for.

      • +8

lmao these Indians making up stories…
Uber requires passenger vehicles to have 5 star ancap rating…. And U r telling me U sat in this car from an uber which doesn't have a Ancap rating at all?

        • Been in maybe 2 DiDis (XUV700), so maybe that's what they meant

          • -1

@heef: For all the haters benefit lol, yes could have been Didi :-)

Haters really need to go for a test drive, think they'll be impressed too.

            • -2

@shutuptakemymoney101: Lol U claimed it was one of your last uber lifts but now changed the story to "Could have been a Didi…"

Exemption list is bull because one of my relatives has an infinity and the system keep flagging it to contact uber n locks him out from driving. He has to call and they put an exemption and shortly it is disabled again. He got so frustrated he just drove for Didi.

But that's a different topic… Highly suspect U just made up the story to boost your national car when we all know Toyota Camry is the first choice

        • +7

I sat in one driven for Uber. I checked and confirmed that Mahindra is on Uber Exemption list.

          https://www.uber.com/au/en/drive/requirements/vehicle-requir…

          https://uber.app.box.com/s/4fuicw93rb46cva89vkoq4xp078srrc3?…

        • Maybe flouting the rules idk, glad they did though if that's the case as it was a pretty comfy ride, could even have been didi as suggested, ride share apps are all same, same to me especially if I have promo codes to use.

      • +1

Mahindra XUV700 is approved by Uber

  • +3

One of these took me home on Saturday night - I was really impressed with the experience. $34K is a bargain

  • +1

This or Jimny? They are both made in India.

    • +9

Jimny is a rugged 4x4, this is a front-wheel drive unibody hatchback on stilts

  • Whats a mahindra

    • Indian Mazerati - Mazeroti

      Name of an Uber driver

    • -2

Does it matter anymore? Just pretend it's yet another new brand from china.

Except that this one is indian and is over 50 years old, unlike the Chinese brands which aren't very old at all.

  • +1

My mate’s got one of these cars, and he reckons it’s been a ripper experience.

    • +1

Funny. My mate has one and says the opposite. So which is it? Good or bad?

      • +6

        50/50

      • There's so much unverifiable anecdotal experiences shared on ozbargain and their biased are obvious.

Just rely on multiple YouTube reviews for actual reviews.

  • +10

    Can you even resell these?

Not even car thieves are interested in this brand

    • +4

      9/10 eshays recommend a mahindra.

      • +5

not even indians here want mahindra

        they want hybrid camrys

      • +2

I don't think eshays can get driving license, leave alone driving car without hitting into a pole

    • how could you tell? You been in their shoes?

  • +3

I like the Black Edition of XUV700

  • +1

    (copied from Merc)

    Absolutely nothing like Merc lmfao

    • If anything.. the tail lights are a bit BMW X7ish

    • I think it looks like the love child of a Pajero and a Prado..

Front has Prado vibes, body could be using the old Pajero panels (not Pajero Sport for those who have forgotten the proper Pajero)

    • -1

Honestly we give the Chinese a pass on their copying on ozbargain due to their price.

The front is like a Renault koleos.

  • +2

Renault wants their headlight design back.

  • +4

Boomers who just spend $75k on a basic rav-4 be real mad right now.

    • +9

That basic RAV4 will hardly depreciate. This vehicle though… if only I could offer a parachute.

      • People spend $70k on 2nd hand RAV 4s these days?

And this is a cheap car. No one buys indian or Chinese thinking about depreciation.

    • Why? They'll have a fuel efficient hybrid and not a thirsty turbo. And RAV4 is also available with AWD.

      • This would be a much better option with a diesel

    • +2

'Boomers'…. Lol the jealousy is palpable
Also where the hell did you pull $75K from?

      • -1

Palpable: "(of a feeling or atmosphere) so intense as to seem almost tangible."

No one has intense feelings over a rav4 owner friend.

        • I think you do bud. ‘Boomer’ used in that context absolutely screams seething millennial lol.

          • @Mike Nolan: No. Im a car guy, and a rav4 is a base model piece of shit, and people paying over $50k for one amuses me. $50k can get you a top of the line 2nd hand lexus, or a rattly, no sound deadening, 4 cylinder over priced shitbox that the rav4 npc mobile is.

  • +1

"Couldn't find the Car sales figures as Mahindra may not be reporting the sales numbers. "

I don't have 2024 figures, but in 2023 they sold approx 1700. That was a partial sales year as it only went on sale mid-year. They also sold ~350 Scorpios in 2023.

  • -3

No self respecting Indian would touch it.

    • +2

Seen plenty of Indians driving it though.

      • +5

        So they lack self respect.

        • -7

Most of them support Narendra modi and bjp, a modern day Hitler and racist nazi party respectively.

          Self respect left long ago.

    • -1

What is the vehicle of choice for a self respecting uber driver?

      • Tesla

        • +7

Strange way to spell Camry Hybrid

  • +2

Far out, what a boring automobile. May as well buy a fridge and put wheels on it.

    • +1

Why? Doesn’t freeze your ass when you drive it?

      • +4

Actually the black edition has cooled seats so in fact it does

    • +12

You just described 100% of the SUVs on the road.

  • This or the Tiggo 4 Pro. Or a second hand Nissan X-Trail from 2021? Budget limited me really could use the third row of seats but it is not a necessity.

    • +1

      Tiggo 4 pro.

  • +12

Friendship with Chinese car industry ended……

    • … Mahindra is his new friend

  • At least this is cheap, lots of unknown brands to the Australian market try to charge brand name prices.

Having said that, LDV D90 only a couple grand more though, how do they compare?

    • +4

      Have the LDV D90.

Honestly for the money and fitout nothing comes close.

Picked up a 2019, two years ago for $26k. It's had 1 recall for failing coolant T-Pieces, other than that has performed remarkably on sand and bush tracks. Even out did a patrol on muddies and a Ford Ranger - both modified. The 4wd system and rear diff lock is pretty capable.
      165kw is more than enough.

Wouldn't buy one brand new though, the initial depreciation is hectic.

      • -1

Even out did a patrol on muddies and a Ford Ranger - both modified. The 4wd system and rear diff lock is pretty capable

Cool story. Is that why we see so many LDV D90s on tough 4WD tracks?

They must be so capable with their massive 210mm ground clearance, legendary 4WD system and best in class rear diff lock.

        • +1

          Woah
Don't have to get all condesending.

I was just expanding on my experience
Its capable given its lack of pedigree

          • -2

@Drakesy: Nobody in their right mind will believe that a LDV out did a modified Patrol on muddies and a Ford Ranger. You need to be specific on what D90 did that modified Patrol and Ranger couldn't do.

Have done extensive 4x4 driving across Australia and know what I'm talking about. Patrol is still considered legendary across 4WD circles along with Landcruiser 70 series. You will never see a D90 on a tough 4WD track, forget about ever doing Canning Stock Route or Old Tele road to Cape York on it.

"Post Collision Braking" sounds like a handy feature..

  • are indian cars generally better quality than chinese?

    • +1

The latest ones are or the same. Mahindra absorbed a lot of the Ssaanyong knowhow when they used to own em.

Another brand Tata owns Land rover.

    • -7

Come on Indian and quality should never be used in the same sentence. Shortcuts and corruption is more like it.

      • +1

Atleast they have an amazing space program, what do we have apart from 'I dig rock, I sell rock' skills?

        • +3

Tbh we do work with Nasa to this day and the dish in Canberra telecasted the moon landing (or some such along those lines). I know it's not "our own space program" but there's something on that front within the CSIRO.
