Bought this the other day for $29, don’t know if they’ll refund the difference but for $10, it’s really a cool piece for your home. Lot of stock around local stores. Be quick.

Illegal
Can I put this at the front of my car to give the finger to fast drivers after they overtaken me while I'm driving as per speed limits?
Legal.
Nice. Ordered 4. Should be fun for a little while.
How long do you reckon?
1 month per the warranty period
Ha that seems like a breach of Aus consumer law.
@WatchNerd: Breach by accepting returns?? 🤔
Subject to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, if you wish to return an item because you have changed your mind about your purchase, Kmart will refund to your original payment method or offer you an exchange voucher, provided that:
- You return the item/s within 60 days of purchase, or 365 days if you are a OnePass Member*
- You produce either your original Kmart register receipt or other adequate proof of purchase (see further below);
- The item is in re-saleable condition, meaning that:
- It is in its original packaging, including instruction manuals and all accessories; and
- It is unworn, unused, unassembled, in its original condition, and in the case of clothes, with the original ticketing on it; and
- In the case of mobile phones and internet connected electronic devices (such as Google mini and Wi-Fi connected home accessories), the original plastic wrapping or seal sticker securing the product closed, is intact; and
- The product is not one where a change of mind return is not available (see below); and
- In the instance where the product is a white goods product or a big and bulky item, a collection fee will be incurred by you (as notified to you before you incur the fee).
If these requirements are not satisfied Kmart reserves the right not to offer an exchange voucher or refund for change of mind returns.
@wisdomtooth: That's a one month period for a change of mind return, which they aren't under any obligation to give.
It would be a breach of the Aus Consumer law if they provided a warranty (that the product operates without faults, is fit for purpose) of only a month.
That's a one month period for a change of mind return
No, it's 60 days, or 365 with Onepass.
@wisdomtooth: Yep, you're correct. Thanks for the pick up.
@huggsymersh: 365 days change of mind with OnePass!
@wisdomtooth: It is unworn, unused,…
@Protractor: Put it back in the box; good as new.
Might make it a challenge with the kids to come up with the best design every couple of weeks. Could last months.
How do you plan on controlling all 4? Four phones?
home assistant
Have enough devices for each person to play with.
Land waste
Same as landfill or worse ?
Better than sea fill worse than spacefill
Worse, because you are wasting land.
Boomers buying all these investment properties 😡
Wonder how bright it is.
Night light for the kids!
The app gives brightness control.
Yes, it's in Kmart's kids lights category.
Thanks, 29 was too much last time, ordered 2 now, hopefully they'll have stock
29?, You trying to make a video wall?
Wtf would you do with this?
Home Decor > Kids Lighting
I may have impulse bought this to Bad Apple.
enhanced LED for fully sick gaming PC
Got 1, thx
Would be neat if you could sync this with album art from music playing on your phone.
Yes, in crisp 16x16 resolution!
That would be the epic part of it tbh
For $90 you could always get 9 of them, for an epic 48 x 48 res.
@cnut: only if I can install Kayo
You need a Tuneshine!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Y_AfSzjjL0
Was thinking about that techmoan video actually! Tuneshine seems neat but my inner bargain seeker would rather see if these little kmart screens have been hacked to be more useful
Is there anything like this that's more in an OzBargain budget?
The app has waveform and rhythm animations (if you're happy for it to eavesdrop).
Hrm wonder how difficult it would be to convert it to something like wled or similar with a hardware change to make it a lot more useful?
should be easy enough to shove an ESP32 in there
These people have broken one down
https://www.reddit.com/r/homeassistant/comments/19efl0l/anyo…
it'll just be a bunch of actual RGB LED's and a handful of shift registers, there's a bajillion projects out there that can work with the matrix if you lift off the on-baord micro. I fyou're a real tinkerer though, you'd likley just use https://www.aliexpress.us/item/1005007395953722.html? a WS2812 based display, then WLED or similar and an ESP32… find a pre-made addressable LED matrix that fits the dims of this and you have a perfect case
oh nice ! I bought 2 of them for $58 last week, still wrapped in the pick up plastic lol. I will be returning them for refund and ordered 4 of these online for $40 !
thanks for posting !
You must really like cats
haha, I just love anything LED and this will go nicely for some pixelart in my new office/mancave in the new house. Kids also love these so couple will go to their rooms.
Thanks. I wanted 2 but $30 each was too much. $10 each is great.
Tried to buy, just got refunded as out of stock
Worth a muck around for $10. Hope it doesn't get cancelled like when I tried to get the bluetooth tx/rx.
Mine just got cancelled
Ordered 2 an hour ago near essendon. Got confirmation they are ready for pickup 30 minutes later
Good deal and grabbed one. Thank you!
Manufacturer warranty: 1 month
Onepass warranty: 1 year
I suspect we'll all be over it within the first 48 hours, so one month is more than enough..
Has anyone managed to get the Nyan cat animation working on this?
I have the 32x32 one and I have the Nyan cat animation working.
Sigh, my inner electronics nerd geeking out at what could be done with this, so order placed. There doesn't seem to be any easy re-program with bluetooth or HA mods, but this guy disconnected the internal SoC and installed an ESP32 and re-programmed it using that (would have wifi and bluetooth, so could be driven by HA). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23-4MTI6y4o
What a weird comment.
Can you give any example of an insurance claim being denied due to a non-fixed appliance?
I think your imagination is running away from you.
I can’t give a example from a news source, as most of them are not news worthy I reckon, but many people on forums state using non-certified EV chargers (ie fleabay Ali et la) on your EV that overheats can be a source of insurance denial.
@wisdomtooth: Those links both point to a story where an insurer tried to get somebody to pay for an accidental cooking fire, but then dropped the claim when confronted.
They don't concern any claim relating to a plug in appliance.
And the insurer made an error in trying it on.
@cloudy: But that's a high voltage high power mains appliance vs a low powered DC device.
@0 0 0: if fire insurance is being denied because of non-approved chargers or other USB powered devices then I feel that every single household in the world would also fall into that category of having said devices and no fire insurance would ever be approved.
@cloudy: Installing fixed wiring, like a car charger, requires an electrician and they won't install non-certified gear if they want to keep their licence.
There is no regulation about appliances you plug in, just certifications required if you want to sell those appliances.
If an insurer can prove you acted negligently they might be able to deny a claim, but insurance's purpose is to protect you from accidents.
I think your imagination is running away from you.
it often does, but lile.JV, PT is entertaining
@M00Cow: if you like watching things burn… wait maybe that's their issue and why they're in pain?
@gizmomelb
Simple install for Home Assistant:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16159855/redir
cheers!
hope it animates too
It does.
Order placed, only then to be instantly emailed that order can't be fulfilled….. Now the wait to make sure the money is returned…. why do I even bother going to K-Mart online……. I gotto stop!
Same here with last two orders… :(
Can you combine a couple to make a larger set/image?
Yes. Manually
Humanity is toast. Cats, tech and AI on the same team.
Can I use this as a toddler sleep training clock by setting and scheduling colours?
Dunno about scheduling, but you can change colours, and set gradient animation.
I downloaded the app just to see and looks like it has a very neat children's schedule program. Not sure how well it works in practice though.
schedule program? Where do you see that?
@wisdomtooth: Someone said it was this app. Has schedule icon
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tech.idotm…
@tikei: Right! On the home page!! The children's schedule is pretty cool! Cheers.
Would've been nice if battery powered but too hard to place on a wall with no outlets
Like this?
It may even fit neatly into that indent on the back.
Wow thats sick I didn't even know that existed. Now just to find the shortest usb cable possible to man to hide it and not have dangling wires 😂
I have this, it's cute but the app for it is pretty rubbish…
Having used the 32x32 from AliExpress/Temu I bought one of these 16x16 from Kmart and it really does look so much worse. Particularly on the preset animations for obvious reasons.
Still works well for me as some retail signs.
How much did you pay on the AliEx/Temu one?
Full price $40. If you use new user exploits on either platform you can get it for this much.
I'd like to know more!
@shinydragon: New users on either platforms can get stuff dirt cheap as a first order.
Not related but they have this Pet car Stairs for $10
https://www.kmart.com.au/product/pet-folding-car-stairs-4340…
2 in 1 chopper $4
We go through a chopper like this a year; they end up breaking with use and washing. But are excellent for making dips — guacamole, baba ganoush… — without liquifying all texture into a mush with a mixer.
Seems like another example of novelty product, which will end up in the garbage landfill in near future.
Can I put this at the back of my car to give the finger to slow drivers after I've overtaken them?
