What's your ride, how quick, and how much new price?

      • Much faster but also more expensive.

    • +10

To be fair, petrol cars (e.g., corolla, i30) in the same price range are much slower.

    • +11

It's a city run about, not a boy racer hot hatch.

Someone got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning.

    • Had a fairly long test drive of one (few days). Feels faster than 8.5. Good punch lower down in the speed, the last 20 kays are probably where it costs it this time.

  • -1

Can't wait for mini suv ev <$30k

    • See you in 2030

      • MG ZS EV Excite MY23 (320km range) - was $43,299 driveaway, guess just matter of time for more chinese to disrupt market

    • +18

Disagree hard. I moved from an expensive car to a mg4 ev and am shocked by how much better driving experience it is.

Essentially all ev cars, irrespective of price are going to be a enjoyable driving experience. Its simply the nature of the technology.

      • -5

Calm down, don't rush. I know you traded your Cullinan for an MG4 EV.šŸ˜„

      • +1

Subjective. Some EVs can actually be annoying to drive at least until work out what things to disable that just dont work well. Certain MG models included. I dont own, only hired EVs on holidays so far, but whilst id agree most were a pleasure to drive once i worked the above out, i honestly still found things i really disliked and most i found kind dull and boring. And i already have a dull and boring car! Other than a Model S i havent really found an EV i liked enough to consider buying. Im sure that will change, so many fascinating options on the horizon.

      • +1

        Curious whats the ā€œexpensiveā€ car?

Now days a rav4 can cost 50k. Is that expensive car?

    • +7

EVs have less parts than ICE cars, which means less complexity, better reliability, easier to automate assembly (so cheaper to mass produce), etc. And now battery costs are low, this means the cars are just getting cheaper. I'm not sure who that is bad for…aside from anyone hoping to sell a secondhand EV

      • +1

Sooner than many will expect: anyone hoping to sell a secondhand ICE.

      • -4

Also easier to monitor, spy and take over control as necessary. Bad enough owning an EV, even worse a Chinese one.

        • +7

Don't tell this guy about mobile phones hey…

  • +3

    Oh boy. Here we go.

  • +12

people trashing it's looks but forget what a 2024 Yaris for the same price looks like..with hubcaps too

    • +2

But the Yaris will still be running in 2050, and wouldā€™ve had multiple P-plater owners doing Dominos delivery runs during their spare time after uni and still would be fine.

      • +13

And why would this not do the same? And by the time you've done 300'000km in your Yaris, you'll have paid a lot more in fuel than for the car…

      • +1

very optimistic to expect a yaris to last 25 years Lol

        • +1

LOL! Still plenty of 2000 model Toyota Echos getting about. Unlike this cheap Chinese POS that will be toxic landfill not long after the warranty expires.

          Try harder.

          • @TheRedRider78:

LOL! Still plenty of 2000 model Toyota Echos getting about

early to late 2000s Toyota models are overengineered. This gen of Toyota really isn't.

For the Yaris, the M15A Dynamic Force engine is also brand new, so we will have to see if it's actually reliable. But many owners complain about rattles etc from day one as there's barely any insulation and the plastics are really, really thin.

        • remz22 very stupid to make a comment that a yaris won't last 25 years! Have you ever been responsible for maintaining a yaris…. or even owned one?
The missus's echo (yaris) is now 20 years old, and on about 270K. I've done all the maintenance…. which involved oil, coolant, filter and plug changes, disc pads, and probably about 5 second hand coil packs over that time. I'll confess to being too lazy to change brake fluid, but brakes are still perfect.
What vehicles have you owned in your lifetime that bring you to this deduction?

        • +2

very optimistic to expect a yaris to last 25 years Lol

I take you've never been on a public road lately and seen all the 25 year old Echo's still driving around?

        • +5

My 2005 echo is at 420k and still chugging along well

      • Nah by 2050 no one is ordering pizza for delivery any more.

    • +2

Yaris looks way better… but definitely need to avoid the hub caps!

        • +18

Got an example of a one year old Ora for $17k? Iā€™d be very interested at that price.

          • -6

@freefall101: I said 50 something, not exactly 50. And that's referring to the percentage of the then new price, not current price.

        • +17

So buy one if you like it that much.

        • +2

The cheapest Ora in the entire country on Carsales is 2 years old and $25k, so about a 26% depreciation on this new price.

          • -3

@loksmack: Still far worse than 4% depreciation. And listed price will always be more than the final selling price. Try looking at car auctions, FB marketplace etc as well.

            • +2

@Mr Bob Dobalina: today i learned 50% to 59% is actually equal to 74%. hurrr durrrr maffs is fun!

              • -1

@Quantico: Today I learned that depreciation is the same as retained value. Oh, I see you edited your post - you originally wrote 26% lol.

        • What idiot would buy a one year old Yaris for 96% of its original priceā€¦

          • @smartazz104: Well the petrol Yaris is discontinued so if you wanted that model you'd have no choice but to pay that.

        • For what it's worth
          on redbook
2024 GWM Ora Standard Range Auto
          $17,200 - $24,500

          • @jlwjlg: Redbook is the price quoted by 2nd hand car dealers when they buy your car, not when they sell

  • +1

Extra $600 for colours which is great and worth, but for tesla it's $2600 šŸ˜¢

    • +3

Geezus who do they think they are, Apple?

      • Pfffft if it was Apple you'd be charged per panel and the car would only include the undercoat when you bought it..

        • +2

Nah. But it'd come in white only and the steering wheel is replaced by a single button.

      • +3

If it was Apple, the charging port would be underneath the car.

        • Touche… Lol

  • I don't mind the looks but the GT is going to be a slug with a much bigger battery and the same 126kW motor.

    • the GT is going to be a slug

I wouldn't go that far. This has similar power/torque as a 20 year-old Golf GTi but since the EV gives all the torque immediately it will likely keep up with most older hot hatches off the line up to the city speed limit. Sure it won't break records, but 'slug' is an exaggeration.

      • I'm comparing it to my EV that's a similar weight but has a 180kW motor.

        • +1

You have a long range mg4? Iā€™m have an excite 51 mg4, this car and mine are no slug off the red light.

The real slug on a Bev is the BYD dolphin 70 kW hatchback.

    • The NMC battery is more dense in kWh/kg, but is still 40kg heavier than the standard model with the lower capacity LFP battery.

Why get this over a suzuki swift?

    • +2

Lol Suzuki Swift is probably one of the only Australian passenger cars with 1 star ANCAP

    • +1

Suzuki Swift hybrid is a fake hybrid.

the mild-hybrid system in the Suzuki Swift only runs at 12 volts, and the electric motor can only supply up to 2.3kW. That is about the same power delivered by two household food blenders.

      https://www.drive.com.au/reviews/2024-suzuki-swift-hybrid-reā€¦

That's about a fifth amount of power compared to base models of other hybrids

    • lol the swift is a slow car. It not punchy and slow at red light. How I know? Beaten a couple of then at red light.

    • Why get this over a Suzuki Swift Sport?* Fixed it for you! ;)

  • -6

And here kids is proof that copying other peoples work does not always end up with succesfull marks. Ugly AF.

If you like that comment why don't you marry it? šŸ˜œ

  • +2

They should get Rita to do the adz.

    • -3

      What ads?

    • In a similar vane. I own a Kia and an Ora AND not a kiwi!

  • +3

    No VTL

    • +2

A lack of V2L is a shame as it would be a cheap household battery.

    • +4

Yeah, waiting on VTH to be approved and getting a cheap EV as a house battery.

      • I am wondering at what point the politicians would get off their back sides and pushed to it.

        When we have black outs?

The energy generators and retailers are all complaining about the grid but you know all they want is consumers to pay more for them to fix it. What we paying them for right now? Donut and coffee money?

      • Me too , then I will likely sell the ora and replace it with a V2H car.
Hoping the Kia EV3 is compatible.

    • These guys seem to think it is supported somehow:

"Could this car be used as an alternative to a home battery to support V2H/V2G, as well as for running around town? The official Australian GWM site says not, but a deeper dive is revealing.

Ambibox GMBH are a company based in Mainz, Germany, specialising in making bidirectional chargers which they have tested on a number of EVs. Their charger has a CCS2 connector and converts the carā€™s DC output to AC without any modification to the vehicle."

  • Is that shape aerodynamic for better range?

    • Think it's only for looks, my ora averages 16Kw per 100 km. So about 350 km on freeways and up to 450 km on suburban drives.

  • -5

Contender for one of the ugliest cars in history, up there with the OG Prius and Nissan Juke.

    • +6

      Fiat multipla already won

      • just google it, W T Fish

  • -1

"GWM" and "cheapest EV". Yeahp, wouldn't touch this with a vaulter's pole.

  • +8

    Standard Range Model - 310KM

    Extended Range Model - 420KM

    • Thanks for that…. far too many websites think they should convey lovely colours and feel good words…. with sod all useful info under "specs".

    • Different battery chemistry between the two.

  • I don't hate it as much as many people seem to but also don't care what other ppl think. You'd take an MG4 because it's better to drive though.

  • +1

While the styling isn't my cup of tea, at least it provides visual interest. The base and extended look better than the GT. The GT's plastic bits including the flares are terrible.

The base/extended in black / white roof is the pick of em. Quality wise, I sat in one of these months ago and it was a distinct step up from the Haval vehicles on the lot.

  • I also don't mind the styling tbh - would look ok in a euro city….

  • -5

a little bit of sick came up into my mouth

    • +3

Itā€™s odd that you thought this was the appropriate forum to let us know about itā€¦

    • Congratulations.

  • +1

    Lmao

  • With the way these things are depreciating the smart move would be to buy something with higher specs and range about 18 months old. Possibly ATTO 3.
