Is there any monthly option that is cheaper per month than this?

    • well depending how many GB you need, for me this is cheap and enough data

      • If I just need min. Say 2GB per month?

        • +1

          Aldi $5 Sim?

          • @dangerdanger: Thanks! What I was looking for. Not those platitudes below.

            • @Musiclover: Why would Aldi $5 sim be good for you if you need 2GB per month, the data costs 6c per MB? and if you need calls it's 15c per minute. Aldi $5 sim is good for long life on a very low use device, but not a gig or 2 a month.

              • @petestrash: I could get away with something as little as 500Mb and minimal calls… Would just have to try and see if it would be enough.

                • @Musiclover: If you now change from saying 2GB a month, to 500MB a month might be enough, you would still be paying $30 a month just on data without calls or SMS. You're much better off on this yearly plan at around $9 a month which includes a ton of data well over your needs, and includes SMS and calls.

                  • @petestrash: Agree. Bargain is bargain but mobile phone expenses is not one of them.

      • Thanks, but I could not find a list of providers there, just a general guide.

        • +1

Yep its the general guide, and now you have the general idea how to search for one that suit you. And then, share it if they are cheap

          • -1

@CyberMurning: The idea was to ask from someone who does it regularly. I can search online, not a problem, the problem is to find time for it.
I was on Kogan for a long time, they stopped, switched to Boost, they stopped. Then tried Lyca and it was crap. Still searching but I also have other things to do…

            • +3

              @Musiclover:

Still searching but I also have other things to do…

Sim hopping is not for you

              • @pyr0: yep, bargain hunting need time , and time is money.

$4 per month flip connect for 500MB

Thanks! What I was looking for. Not those platitudes above.

Thanks, just what I was looking for and not those platitudes each side of these posts.

when the latest we have to activate this? my one year amaysim exp in exactly 56 days from today

    • +4

Previous deals suggest 24 month activation. I'm planning to activate in a couple of months
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15889182/redir

      • yep see below i thought so too

    • There is "$150 plan will be no longer be available to new customers from 28/01/25. " in the description. I am about to return it soon as I expect to activate in June 2025

      • +1

Does that mean we've gotta activate it before 28/01/25 or that new customers won't be able to buy it after that date?

  • I can't see it written anywhere, is this fine for topping up for current catch customers?

    • +1

most of the good deals are for new customer. they dont know what loyalty is

      • agreed, I would literally take a slightly worse offer to avoid plan hopping. Guess I'm on the move again.

        • Hopping once a year is okay. Not once a month

  • -2

Can existing customer use this deal?

  • +1

$119 for first 365 days: Offer ends 28/01/25, unless withdrawn earlier. $150 plan will be no longer be available to new customers from 28/01/25. Discount applies to SIM purchase only. Ongoing recharges revert to standard price of $150 or as otherwise advertised. New services only. All data allowance is applied upfront after $119 payment and SIM activation. Activate SIM within 30 days of purchase, or by the date advertised in a promotion, whichever is earlier, to receive advertised inclusions.

  • +2

They have this discount every few weeks. All marketing.

  • +1

You must activate your chosen prepaid plan on catchconnect.com.au or on the Catch Connect App within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on the promotion (whichever is earlier). Additionally, you must activate your Catch Connect SIM card within 24 months of purchase, otherwise the SIM card will be cancelled.

in this case, there is no further promo or bonus data for example on this so i think its safe to activate within 24months

    • +2

      Correct since no bonus data

    • +2

What's the difference between activating on the App (30days) vs activating the sim (24months), does the 365day plan only start once the sim is activated or when the plan is activated in the app?

      • +4

The 30 day limit is for any 'bonus' things like promo data. Since this SIM is paid for when sent, there isn't a bonus to worry about.

The 24 month period is for when the SIM card will 'expire' and not be accepted by Optus for activation, though this is a pretty lenient timeframe and not likely to be enforced too stringently.

Your plan should start when you activate in the app, not when you pay.

      • +1

some sim plan has something like bonus 10GB on top of the normal GB, and expire at XX
then that is the 30 days
this one doesnt have so 24mth

  • no esim, right?

    • No

      • Does any of these long term plans support eSIM

        • Yeah plenty but not catch

  • +1

Can I transfer my existing mobile number to this?
I am with TPG. Are there any problems with switching from TPG?

    • Yes you can.

    • Haven't been with TPG for ages, do they still try to charge $11 to port out?
(Quick search suggests they don't anymore, was just curious)

  • -1

Cheaper to combine with this deal.

    • +3

Bought the gift card reading your comment, now ended up with ununsed catch gift card. Coupon doesn't work alongwith giftcard.

      • Thanks for the heads up, was about to do the same

      • It worked for me; I tested it with a remaining balance of $1.52.

        • Strange, must be something going on since you got downvoted 2 times after I upvoted you

        • Unless if they patched it, it also worked for me in early December when I paid the full amount for the 200GB plan ($140) using catch gift cards.

          • @Travelling panda: Gift card itself is working but when used it alongwith coupon it's not working. When gift card is entered it's showing full amount and ignoring coupon.when tried to enter coupon after entering gift card, it says coupon conditions not met as it's $10 off $100

            • @dpk: Oh that's odd, cause I did still get the $10 discount at the time (price was $150 down to $140). All payment was GC too. Was just about to buy this plan, so won't get any GC just in case it no longer works. Thanks.

      • I had success with applying the coupon and the gift card, but only in the mobile app. I used Android so if you are on iOS your results may vary. Appears the website does a check the app doesn't.

        • I have used laptop not app

  • My current 12 month plan expires in a few days and unfortunately I haven't received the 25% discount on renewal (got it last year)

    • +3

Just port out for a month / 28 days with a sim on special at Coles or WW then port back.

There's a few currently on special at Coles like this one.

      • +1

Thanks, I'll check it out. In the meantime I have turned off auto renewal to see if that prompts a discount

        • +1

Removing auto renewal did the trick, just got notification of a 25% discount on renewal - $112.50 for the year

  • My current plan will expire in June 2025. Can I still use this one ?

    • read all comment from top

      • I have. Thanks.

        • @CyberMurning Useless comment. There is "$150 plan will be no longer be available to new customers from 28/01/25. " in the description. I am about to return it soon

  • Unfortunately, international calling is not enabled by default.

    • huh, so we can enable, and its free?
or you meant to say not included ?

  • It seems i incorrectly login Catch connect which doesnt offer this $10 discount.

  • I was with catch before but not now, will I qualify for new customer for this deal?

    • Yup, new services.

  • +1

The code works at catch but doesnt work if you try to buy from catchconnect

    • Works for me when I add the Sim to my cart and apply the coupon. I haven't checked out as I bought using the previous code BOXING10 before midday

  • Looking for a deal to use with a new Kids 4G Watch that takes a sim. Can anyone advise if this plan wouldn't work for a smart watch? Thanks!

  • Last time placed an order and they didn’t post it, refund me after I questioned them a month later

Placed an order again 2 weeks ago, hasn’t posted again
    Anyone has the same issues?

    • -1

Buy and move to new house, probably is the cheapest easiest fastest solution.

  • My Moose mobile plan charges are a non-promotional rate on the 1st of Jan, so it's time to move, but my phone doesn't take e-sim. Is it possible to buy and begin the port prior to it arriving by post ?

    • +1

You need the sim card number during the process.

  • Does anyone know of any sim cards that last longer than a year or can stack? Hoping to do 2+ years in one payment for the parents

    • If you buy 2 SIM cards now, activate one to use ( bring in existing mobile number if necessary), turn off auto renewal, this service will last 12 months, carefully put away the 2nd Sim and bring out in 12 months(can be activated up to 24 months after purchase), if want to keep the existing mobile no. will need another provider ($2 Telstra from OW,Coles,Woolies), to port to from old Optus Sim and then port from Telstra Sim to new Optus Sim. In Telstra app choose "connect with out recharge"
so not committed to a plan and no credit card needed.

  • I'm still on their 60GB/$120 (plenty for me), but they've always offered me a renewal at $90. Wonder what my chances are of that happening again when it's due in a couple of months.

Seems like this is the cheapest yearly plan with a decent amount of data at the moment? Going to need one for the kid starting highschool next year.

    • 60GB/$120

      how many days?

      • 365

    • Seems like this is the cheapest yearly plan with a decent amount of data at the moment? Going to need one for the kid starting highschool next year.

better buy this plan now if you want $150/120GB plan (it will no longer be available on 28/1/25)

The way things are going, many companies (e.g. Woolies) want to increase their profit to approx $200+ / 200GB plan with increased in data (as the justification for the increased in price)
but they know many people don't need or use that much data per year.

Many people use 100GB or less and prefer to pay less money e.g. $150 or less rather than $200+.

  • Is it confirmed that you can still activate the sim and plan after 30 days?

    • Official blurb says can activate up to 24 months after purchase. This 365 day plan is no longer able to be purchased after 28/1/25 , bit like what boost did - got rid of their $230/160Gb 365 plans (could be had for $175-180 for 170Gb. This is forcing users to pay more and get more data that they don't use. Can't really see a statement from Catch Connect to see what the ongoing 365day new user plans will be after 28/1/25.

      • +1

most likely it will be increase in price to $200+ with more GBs (e.g.215GB which many people don't actually use)

This is what they also did with woolworths mobile.

Many of these companies know that most people use 100GB or less per year
so the companies want to increase their profit by increasing the plan price (with a fake incentive of more data to justify the price increase which they know many people don't need or use)

  • No thanks, provider is Optus! I am still seething over Optus’ data breach and disgraceful disrespect for people’s personal details. They should be kicked out of the country for causing misery to millions of Australians.

    • Optus’ data breach.
and look now it has been no update no punishment nothing… from optus or from government… what other companies will think?
