No thanks, provider is Optus! I am still seething over Optus’ data breach and disgraceful disrespect for people’s personal details. They should be kicked out of the country for causing misery to millions of Australians.

    • Optus’ data breach.
and look now it has been no update no punishment nothing… from optus or from government… what other companies will think?

  • SUMMER10 Code not working for me

    • Just worked for me. I had to log into Catch first to apply it though.

Would GC purchased from cashrewards work?

    .

    • Like to know as well.

    • Me 2 would like to know

Why are all the telcos getting rid of the low data yearly sims??? I really don’t need more than 140gb a year

    • It sux

    • Same i just need 60 to 80 gb a year

    • Why are all the telcos getting rid of the low data yearly sims???

Why do you think any companies do anything?
      Profit $$…

      I really don’t need more than 140gb a year

Exactly… most people only use approx 100GB or less a year and only want to pay about $150 etc.
      and telcos know this..

But telcos want more profit so they increase the price to $200+/200GB
with the justification for the increase by giving more data (which they know many people don't need or will ever use up)

Confirmed with Catch via phone today.
    * You have 24 months to activate from date of purchase
    * For existing Catch customers - As soon as you port your number away from Catch (ie: as soon as your number leaves their system) you are considered a new customer.

Buying Flipconnect $4/mth, porting out for 48 hours then back into Catch.

I was an existing Catch Connect customer when my plan expired late last year.
I bought a $2 prepaid Telstra sim from Officeworks, ported over to Telstra, then ported back to Catch Connect on the $99 365 day plan. All done in 5 mins.

      • Cool. Pretty sure the $99 plan is no longer an option, yeah?

        • No longer an option, was a quick one week special late last year. Lucky I saw it LOL

The code doesn't work, tried it two days ago and today. It says that the code is invalid. I'm logged in

    • +2

I think the code only works on the catch.com.au site. Try there. I couldn't get it to work on the catchconnect site.

Is it true that the gap in coverage for regional areas between Optus and Telstra is closing?

I’m in central VIC with Boost and wondering whether I should move to Optus (directly or via an MVNO) given it they’re considerably cheaper.

    • Depends on location and towers
Definitely noticed Optus push into regional west vic near my parents, can check the towers providers are at and coverage
Telstra used to be best there but now it sucks due to congestion (5-10mbps max). My folks use Optus 4g at home and get75mbps speeds easy
      So depends on your location

  • got one, thx OP

  • Just spoke with support.
At first they confirmed the 24 month activation for this Plan, as per the other comments above, but when I enquired further regarding the discontinuation of this particular plan after the 28/1 and how that might affect it, they referred to their superivisor who advised that this specific Plan has a 30 day activation period.
Take that as you will, and whether it's worth the risk of holding onto it for > 30 days

They're mistaken.. I received my Sim today and the letter enclosed within states, "Note that your Catch Connect SIM card must be activated within 24 months of purchase, otherwise the SIM card will be cancelled and any credit associated with it will be forfeited"

      • yes you can activate within 24 months but they will put you onto their new plan (e.g. $200+/200GB) since the $150/120GB is removed on 28/1/25.
you just won't need to pay the extra $ since you already paid for the sim.

the letter never said anything about allowing you to be on the $150/120GB
only that you can activate it within 24 months..

Deal has been extended another week with the same code. Description updated

Can I activate it after 3 months?

  • +1

How many days does it take for them to ship it out? I bought one from the Boxing Day sale and it still haven't shipped yet.

    • +1

I bought just before midday 31/12 and it arrived today in Sydney

      • Normal mail or did you get a tracking number?

    • Mine changed to in transit today but otherwise no communication or updates from Catch.

    • Curious if you've received it in the mail yet?

  • +1

ordered on 27 Dec, still in ordered status, hasn’t been shipped…

    • Same still today

      • +1

call the support, I received a few days later after calling them.

  • Still not sign of delivery. Called and was told it cannot be tracked because it is el cheapo mail (probably shoved in an envelop). Ordered 20 December. Sigh.

  • +1

Thanks OP, just ordered for $109 with the promo code and the 'upsized' 3.7% cashback from Shopback

    • Hmm it says not applicable to catch connect Purchases

      • Yes. It is stated very clearly under Exclusions:

Cashback is not applicable for Catch Connect purchases, Apple and Dyson products.

      • I clicked through and purchased via Catch.com.au though, as I was running into the same issue as others when trying to purchase directly through Catch Connect.

It says $1.47 tracked on Shopback, will wait to see if it comes through once I activate the service I guess.

        • same but i dont expect anything

    • -1

      Use topcashback

      • The merchant Catch.com.au is only available on Cashrewards and ShopBack.

Does anybody know if this can be activated after 3 months from purchase?

    • read all comments

    • Does anybody know if this can be activated after 3 months from purchase?

yes but you won't be on the $150/120GB plan since that will be removed on 28/1/25
so you will be on a new plan (most likely $200+/200GB+ plan)

      • so in theory its better to hold and activate as later as possible ? because we already paid for this $109 we may get lucky and get more data

        • you will get more data since mostly likely they are gonna be changing plans to $200+/200GB+ (possibly $220 to $250) like what woolworths did
but next time you recharge you will not be on the $150 plan.. so will need pay $200+ (or whatever the new plan will be)

You just won't need to pay $200+ now since you already bought the sim.

Many of the telcos know most people only use approx 100GB or less per year and only want to pay $150..
so the removal of these $150 plans is just to increase their profit knowing that people won't use the data but now will need to pay $200+

so if you only want to pay $150 then you better do it now since they will not be available in the future (like what happen with woolworths plan).

  • Just wondering how much difference between their 4G plus and 5G? I have used their 5G network but not 4g plus. Would it be fine to stream say Youtube on their 4G plus network?

  • Internet slow during peak time. I believe they renting optus network with restrictions with speed, more people sign up with catch connect more people share it during peak periods and end up slow interest. Off peak it works good.

    • Happen to all retailers.

  • +1

Deal has been extended to 12:00pm 20/01/2025

  • I'd caution against buying if you need the sim soon. They seem to be very slow with sending them out. Looks like I'll have to call up

    • They were pretty quick with one I ordered a few weeks ago.

    • Already how many days? I just bought one mayne 3 days ago, not received yet

      • Less than a week, plus I'm in FNQ

    • Seems like mine is still not dispatched after 2 weeks

  • +1

Even though they tell you that they will tell you once shipped, they do NOT tell you.

At least that is what has happened to me twice

    • That's good to know, bought on 12/1 and still waiting for a shipped email.

      Hopefully it comes before 28/1.

  • $10 more for 140GB at Kogan if you like an eSim

    • +2

The bigger difference is vodafone (kogan) vs optus (catch)
