How does this go with a non-samsung device if I decide to change to a different android phone?

Thanks OP, been looking to get either these or Apple Air Tags

  • -1

Only compatible with Samsung Galaxy devices with Android 9.0 or Higher

Emm why so limited being the same Android.

  • Been looking for a deal on these but really only need one 😭can't justify

    • Dont worry we are here to help you (spend more money) kidding
      See below post from me

  • Bought a pack for my trip to japan to track my suitcases while they got delivered by tomato, and crossbody bag if it ever got lost.

Worked surprisingly well. No real issues, and Japan has more iPhones than android.

  • Im struggled to find usage for 4 of these.

Put one in the car… done(1)
Put one on each luggages.. done..(2)
But when not travelling? I have 3 in the drawer.

    • How often do you lose your car?

      • +1

Maybe you cannot remember where you have parked in a multi storey carpark.

        • correct. for parking peace of mind

        • Does it help you guide to the exact location? I do have this issue with forgetting where I parked but just don't know if this is full proof solution
Also if it will remain good in hot weather if in car.

          • +1

@amsaini15: Yes it will find the car.
No issue with hot you just put somewhere without direct sun. Ie on thr booth or some hidden corner, under the seat, etc

            • @CyberMurning: Thanks mate

            • @CyberMurning: In the scenario of a multi floor carpark , is it somehow able to tell me what floor, or maybe say above or below current position or can it only show x,y position and not z space?

              • @bobvegas: How would it know that. Maybe the distance will be showing something when you are above or below it perhaps.

UWB enabled Galaxy devices for UWB features
Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a wireless communication technology that can be used for precise positioning and tracking in both indoor and outdoor environments. UWB can be used in conjunction with GPS to track assets across indoor and outdoor spaces.
Here are some ways UWB technology can be used:
                Real-time location tracking
UWB can be used for real-time location tracking of people, devices, and assets. This can be useful in industrial IoT solutions, such as production control, object management, and personnel safety.
                Indoor tracking
UWB is well-suited for indoor tracking because it doesn't face the same challenges as GPS indoors. UWB can be accurate to within 10–30 cm, and can last for over five years on a single battery.
                Combining with GPS
UWB location data can be combined with GPS location data to track assets across indoor and outdoor spaces. For example, Ubisense's RTK-GPS UWB technology powers down the GPS unit when outside the range of the local RTK-GPS base station to minimize battery drain.
                UWB has some disadvantages, including:
Short range: UWB signals have a shorter range than other wireless technologies, so devices need to be close together to communicate effectively.
Requires infrastructure: UWB tracking requires an infrastructure to be installed on-site.

                • @G-rig: Maybe if the phone that reports the tracker also sends altitude information. The person trying to find lost car will then know if car is above or below and maybe know how many floors above or below. Modern phones have barometers and compass's that are different to altitude and direction from GPS, so although GPS won't work in a cement carpark the barometer still should.

Having said that, I have no idea if these trackers can detect or relay that the lost item or below or above.

                  • @bobvegas: Who knows, maybe someone can test it.
Yes. Can't imagine z values (elevation) would be reported and as you say a traditional GPS signal wouldn't be possible in an underground carpark (but used a combination of signals).

Depends what the app reports too.

                • @G-rig: I saw this
                  https://www.androidpolice.com/samsung-galaxy-s24-uwb/

And bought tags. But I can't get this AR thing working.
I get search nearby (says stuff like 6m away)
sound is too quiet to hear (inside empty luggage in cupboard)

or navigate (maps opens and says I'm here)

    • Do you find your drawer?

      • Yes but no more cookies inside

    • I have 4 as well.

I put one on my keys, one in my backpack, one in my car, and the last I will use for luggage when travelling.

The keys one is really useful because I can use it to switch the lights on and off remotely.

    • feel the same way, if travelling I need a dozen, when not I need…. 2?

  • Got an Airtag and a Galaxy Smart Tag for Xmas.

I have an Oppo with Android 11.

    Are these useless to me?

Any good alternatives - just looked on Amazon at the Chipotle, Atuvos.. I'm guessing there are 1000's by now?

    • Unfortunately, both are useless to you as both are incompatible with your current phone. Can only be used with iPhones and Samsung devices respectively. Apparently the Motorola ones are more open so potential alternative to you

      • Cheers, yeah reading up on the Motorola.

Seems a no brainer. Reading suggests the Samsung tag only bounces off other Galaxy phones, whereas the Moto bounces off ALL Android phones. So heaps better tracking and it has UWB like the big boys for precision tracking.

Hopefully I can swap em (they bought em from Harveys …will struggle just walking in Harveys door). But Harveys do sell the Moto

        • Huh only galaxy phones? Hmm seems like i shouldnt get those haha oh well too late

          • @CyberMurning: That's what the fine print says!!

Then when reading the reviews I see stuff like

"It didn't provide a location for a couple of hours"…. So clearly has no phone to bounce off.

That being said, 90%+ of the population are idiots and would have one in their luggage and complain it isn't tracking mid flight…

    • Download from play store Smartthings and see if that works with your phone and Smart tag.

      • Haven't opened the packet. Going to swap for a Motorola version.

These are also $99 on Amazon which comes out at around the same price since this deal has additional shipping that you'll need to add on.
    https://amzn.asia/d/dcFq4cn

    • Sounds like a better option.

  • I just got OW pice beat for $83.60 delivered. Very happy

    • $83.60 price bear at office works, no further questions
Though they said delivery is extra, even though I have OnePass subscription

Though some comments that the Moto would be the better version since it's all android phones???

  • It's free shipping if you enter the code BOXINGDAY2024

  • I got mine from JB, price match the price of $88, then use new JB perk $10 off voucher. Couldn't be happier.
